According to the Talking Dead pop ups, the actors playing Rick and Daryl watched the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for inspiration before shooting these scenes. (I find that watching the Talking Dead is almost mandatory if I want to learn of the bits and pieces that the editors and directors left out of the aired story.) In the movie version, Butch and Sundance appeared to be barely competent, but sweet, bank robbers. The best of their plans repeatedly failed. My best guess is that Rick and Daryl didn’t take both vehicles because Butch and Sundance didn’t split up. IMHO, of course.

Are you talking about 20th Century athletic shoes? ISTM that Feldschuh is probably older than that. I’d think that people who worked in fields would wear boots. Maybe they sometimes wore hobnail shoes?
