The Walking Dead; 6.11 "Knots Untie" (open spoilers)

So much for eating pancakes ever again.

I was thinking the same thing. When she said they’ve planted cucumbers I thought it showed poor judgment.

OK, not quite as late to the thread as I usually am. Slow day at the office.

I didn’t notice what the painting was in Gregory’s office. But the guy lives in a plantation house. He called the painting ‘mine’, which implies to me that he thinks he owns the place. He offered to Maggie a deal that involved working in exchange for food, which sounded like sharecropping to me. though I didn’t see what the painting was, I’m guessing it might have been a Confederate general heroically leading his troops on horseback. All of these things (even if I’m just imagining them) lead me to think that Gregory might be pining for the antebellum South, with himself as the plantation owner.

Gregory has no clue how to subtly extract information. I don’t know if it was written that way because of time constraints, or if the writers intended to show that he wasn’t all that swift. Also: anyone else have the feeling the big guy was going to stab him? I could see it coming.

So Hilltop has a Negan problem. They need Our Gang’s help. But I don’t think Maggie should have volunteered, and I don’t think Rick should have taken payment for a job not done. Sure, get paid in advance in case you snuff it. But first find out if the job is doable. How many men does Negan have? ‘Uh… Twenty?’ Not good enough. How many men does he have? What’s the layout of their camp? Where are prisoners kept? How disciplined are the people in his camp, who probably think that the last thing to happen would be for them to be attacked? Rick has that one guy who knows about Negan’s camp. And he does have Jesus on his side. But it seems really stupid to agree not only to get rid of the threat, but bring the prisoner back alive, before you know anything.

The episode didn’t turn me off. I liked it better than ‘Meh’. But it should have been smarter.

Rick is probably thinking that the Saviors is going to be another Terminus. They took all of those bastards out, and also defeated the Governor and his minions. That bunch of Negan’s guys wasn’t so tough either.

He of course is forgetting that they were about to get their throats cut when Carol saved everyone, they merely survived Woodbury by managing to run away, and took out Negan’s party by happening to have an RPG, which can only get used a couple more times. The wolves they took down were far stupider and disorganized than the Saviors have already proven to be.

They will be in for a rude awakening, but at least they already have the food.

In other topics, I suspect that Abraham will find a new girlfriend, but it won’t be the one he expects. The relationship will be very short.

Don’t these people ever learn anything.
This clown, Jesus , shows up and feeds them a line of crap. So, what do they do -road trip.
They are driving along a get stuck, I guess they couldn’t go around that giant mud-filled ditch or pot-hole or whatever the hell it was.
Then, they meet this other bunch of nuts and decide to talk things over and start trading with them. Like they don’t have enough problems of their own.
They keep meeting these people who can’t scratch their own asses, but the helpless people have food and need the group to save their butts and then the writers start up with the stupidity.

About the cucumbers/tomatoes-- Wasn’t Maggie worried b/c NOTHING had budded? She’s using trellises so if anything happens they can grow up. (Foreshadowing worry?)

About the debates about how sensible it is for Rick’s Group/Alexandrians to go after Negan? I have no idea, but no one else can.

Rick & co haven’t really given them any reason to think differently. Sure they talked nice, but they else demanded half their supplies as [del]tribute[/del] payment in advance. IIRC it was even mentioned that the Saviors never got that big of a haul before.

That scene would’ve been much funnier if *Michonne *was negotiating with him instead of Maggie.

He absolutely should’ve. And Maggie kicked ass. They got a big pile of food. Who knows if Our Gang can deliver? But they just fed and got medicine to everyone in Alexandria.

Judith. Corrrrlll.

Maybe Jesus saw that in them? Set your enemy against your enemy?

I will always read that as Haysus; Texas life! (I’m not religious so np with the name of Jesus, I just never pronounce it that way.)

Jesus I can see being smart enough to pull that off, but the rest of hilltop did not strike me as being that sophisitcated, while trade is a good thing, personally I would have advocated rolling over hilltop and taking everything. So far the group has had the good luck to run into people, where for the most part they have the tactical advantage in thinking, but they have not run into anyone thats actually better than they are,( terminus excepted, and I put that one to bad luck and everyone showing up at different times).

I think they are going to get their asses handed to them, and its gonna be humbling for Rick.

Declan

We just watched it tonight.
With all the time spent on Abraham, he will get whacked.
Gregory is an asshole, and an idiot.
“Negan already takes half. You get a quarter.”
Things will Not Go Well attacking the Negan Bunch.

Alexandrea will be a target at some point anyway, if it’s not already in Neegan’s sights. It kind of makes sense to dispatch the people who will definitely be a problem in the future, rather than waiting for them to attack.

I thought The Doctor provided pre-natal vitamins. The ultra sound was the “one other thing”

The doctor may have told Maggie about the ultra sound machine when he gave her the vitamins?

He (the Doctor) made the comment to ‘come see him’ - I figured it was more than just to give her a bottle of vitamins.

the other reason for my thought/guess was the way Maggie said her “one other thing” - it was really sticking it to the guy - not just asking for a dr appointment.

Troub wrote: “So it seems like they’re cocky, overconfident, and/or just itching for a fight for some reason. They’re right that they’ve dispatched a lot of violent groups in the past, but seem to have no regard for how much luck played into it as well as how many people and family they’ve lost in those conflicts. Crazy.”

Well, every old West gunfighter wone every fight right up until his last one.

I guess you’re right. But then, Rick could just say ‘You know what? We’ll just take the stuff. If Negan comes knocking, we’ll try to help.’ ISTM that Gregory was buying a pig in a poke.

Exactly. You’d think they’d have learned about ‘the Law of Averages’ from the last episode. Hubris gets people killed.

Our Gang won against Woodbury – against some actual fighters and a bunch of cannon-fodder town folk. Most of Our Gang survived the showdown at the prison, and The Governor didn’t. But they lost the prison. It was a tactical victory, but a strategic loss.

They destroyed the Termites. But Rick and some of his people very nearly got their throats slit. Carol did a good job on her guerrilla raid. If she’d been a minute later, or if her skyrocket didn’t set off the gas, the outcome would have been very different. They got lucky.

The hospital. Didn’t come to a fight, except when Dawn decided to change the terms of the prisoner exchange. And then, neither side wanted to fight.

The Wolves were not well-disciplined, and they didn’t have firearms.

A Town Full Of Zombies. Alexandria was swarmed, and Rick & Co. and the townspeople came together to (re-)kill them. Good job, but zombies don’t think and they’re slow. Just have a way out.

Negan’s gang nearly killed Abe, Sasha, and Darryl. The leader guy was just about to pull the trigger. Again, our friends were lucky. Darryl managed to fight and kill the bad guy without the other bad guys hearing anything. And the rocket launcher just happened to be where he could get to it without being seen, and he just happened to be able to figure out how to use it.

The group has survived for two years or more, and they’ve learned a lot. They’ve done a good job fighting Bad Guys. (We’ll just forget their casualties.) They’re tough. But when they made the deal with Gregory, they had no way to tell how well-trained or well-equipped Negan’s gang is. (They should know that Negan & Co. are well-fed and well-disciplined.) It apparently didn’t occur to them that Negan and his people were also surviving successfully since the ZA started, and they not only had victories over people who attacked them, but they are now the war dogs who are winning against less violent groups.

I wonder why not. Rick & Co. fire automatic weapons all day long.
:dubious:

Tuesday and still just one page. I’m surprised. I really liked this episode, especially after last week’s clumsy attempt at humor, but it seems to be generating very little buzz here…

I think everything that could be said has been said. Not a terrible lot to say, it was a talky episode and pretty straightforward, nothing terribly controversial or outrageous.

Well, we can complain about NO CAROL!!!

Where was Carol? :dubious:
