In the comics, it’s Glenn.
I’m going to at least credit Greg Nicotero’s directing. It was the same person who’s perspective we saw first person a few times. Those clips did nothing else for the story…no dialouge, nothing. That leaves Glenn, Michonne, Daryl, or Rosita.
That episode sucked.
We get Morgan on a horse and the wandering adventures of the RV for over an hour and then a non ending. Seriously?
And it didn’t make a lot of sense. The only reason Rick et al. took to the road is that Maggie was sick. How did Negan know today was the day to block every road? The blocade with the tree trunks would have taken days.
And the final scene? It played very much like the comic did but unfortunately what worked on the page did not play so well in live action. I can’t necessarily fault them for that because maybe Negan is just one of those characters that works better in your imagination. I can fault them for that fuck up of a cliff hanger. Seriously, screw them for making that creative decision. Having Negan kill some one violently could have been powerful and affecting. Now it just seems cheap and manipulative.
A very poor episode all around.
This show is like a car wreck, you know your not going to like what you see, but you look anyway.
It has to be Abe. Earlier, when Negan was doing his monologue, it should be noted that Abe looked up at him, almost defiantly. Negan let out a “hm”. He looked up again after the first swing of the bat, and Negan noted his persistence.
It makes sense with the rest of the episode as well (talking about kids with Sasha, having a moment with Eugene).
Just my 2 cents.
I think so, too.
I’m leaning towards Abraham being the victim. Second choice is Eugene. Not too happy about that “first-person perspective” of the execution, though. Drat! But I can wait until next season for the reveal…
Agree. It is irritating, and in my opinion, unnecessary.
Another thing that took me out of the story was Morgan riding up on the horse, seemingly appearing out of nowhere and surprising the guy shooting Carol. Riding up on a horse! And no one heard him coming! Sheesh. The horse must be a ninja.
And who are the guys in armor, with the spear? Yet another society? Are they cooperating with the Saviors? Or will they be the saviors of our plucky band of survivors (minus one)?
My understanding is not even the cast knows who the victim is.
I think that those guys are part of the Kingdom, which is run by a gentleman named Ezekiel.
The only one not shown in Negan’s eeny meeny miny moe game was Eugene, so my guess is it’s him.
I imagine that it has to do with the making of money. The season premiere will be touted to advertisers as having a lot of viewers.
I’m surprised no one volunteered to be “it”. A noble sacrifice. Eugene could have; Abe could have; Glenn could have (to save Maggie).
Are we supposed to know who the two victims of the Saviours were? The guy they dragged to the first road block and the guy they hanged off the bridge.
They’ll say whatever they want to mislead the audience, at least IMO.
I thought it was the same guy. He was one of the Hilltop group. IIRC, he had an “X” spray painted on his chest, which we saw happen during the first encounter with Rick’s group.
I think it was the same guy. I got the impression that he was from a different group, one that rebelled and was wiped out.
Maybe they assumed that Alexandria would send out a search party for Daryl, Rosita, Glenn, and Michonne?
That was wince-inducing. There are ways to block a scene to make it somewhat believable, and the show seldom bothers to do it.
It was the same guy, in the bridge scene he had a red X spray-painted on his chest, and we saw the spray-painting happen at the roadblock scene.
I thought Abraham did, when he sort of rose to meet Negan. And Glenn did too.
which makes them both ‘breakable’ - since they’ll do anything to protect someone else.
It will be a weak one - won’t be carl.
