The Walking Dead; 6.16 "Last Day on Earth" (open spoilers)

The only one who seems to be butt-hurt about the whole thing is the guy throwing a hissy fit and then taking his marbles and going home.

A few of us are just asking you to be thoughtful of other posters here about stuff from the comics. If you must bring something to these threads from the comics, no matter what it is, just put it in spoiler boxes. What’s not a spoiler to Jack might very well be a spoiler to Jill. That is all.

He was shot in the shoulder. When the Saviors pull him out of the van you can see blood on his shoulder.

It was also announced that he was selling his Atlanta condo. There were even virtual tours of it. Totally false: he doesn’t even own an Atlanta condo- when he’s filming he lives in a house the studio rents for him as part of his contract.

It came off to me as patronizing, if that’s the right word, like he did it because that’s what a man would do. But I did feel a sense of relief for her that it was no longer her decision and that she was likely safe.

I thought the finale succeeded in accomplishing the point of the show: horror. Things aren’t too scary when you’re behind a wall and things are sort of under control. But what about when it is Maggie’s medical emergency, you have to be on the move, and this hostile group decides now is the perfect time to spring their trap?

Getting boxed in built a sense of claustrophobia, and their helplessness to rescue the guy getting beaten in the road made it seem worse- they were already agreeing to Negan’s terms at that point. When they got to the log roadblock and Negan’s group hung that guy with the big spraypainted X on his chest from the bridge, then set the roadblock on fire, I knew Rick and his gang were well and truly fucked. Trapped! Powerless! In very hostile territory. And it only got worse from there.

It wasn’t the only scene that did it, but I thought this scene in particular evoked a sense of horror. The show has its flaws, but it is doing its job in depicting scenes of horror, so I suppose I will tune in in the fall to see who it was that got whacked. It could be Glenn. I suspect Eugene, though maybe Abe, they had their farewell scene after all. Or maybe it is Daryl, or maybe Daryl’s gay buddy. I don’t see Michonne getting whacked- if they want people to work for them, she is too useful- unless she is too dangerous…

I am curious how Gabriel and the rest of the Alexandiraintes will react to all this. Enid will bust her way out of the closet (stay in the house, Enid!), but who else is left to come to the rescue?

I had the patronizing thought too. But we haven’t seen any evidence that Enid is a competent fighter; she seems to have gotten by, on her own, by knowing when to run. Carl shouldn’t have been on the mission either, but Enid belonged even less.

Watching this episode I was reminded of an episode from ANGEL’s third season, in which Wesley, in command of the Fang Gang, was planing an attack in a rebellion. Gunn pointed out that Wesley’s plan was going to sacrifice two of their troops; Wesley retorted that “If you try not to get anybody killed, you end up getting everybody killed.” I thought of that during this episode, because the whole expedition was very ill thought. Wonderful though she may be, Maggie’s life alone was not worth the danger they exposed the expedition team and Alexandria in general to; neither was retrieving Carol or Daryl.

OK, I thought it was strange that the audio clip says it was posted 4 days ago. I did a bit of digging and found this*, as well as rewatching the scene and comparing it. That audio does not appear to be genuine.

*If you scroll through the comments of that video, and there’s a little discussion where somebody talks about this audio clip and links to it, and someone else replies:

So it could still be Glenn, but that audio clip cannot be submitted into evidence.

Enid is such an irritating little bitch that I’d be happy to see her munched on by the Walkers. The ZA is not the appropriate time to go through rebellious teenage years. That shit is going to get evolved out real fast!!

I didn’t see it as patronizing because Carl was actually hoping for a fight.

Total garbage season finale that is simply milking the loyalty of the fans. We watch one hour and fifteen minutes of Rick and Company drive to four separate roadblocks. The cast said that they were physically sick after reading the script. Probably car sick, I guess.

Then, okay, we get to see the payoff, right? Well, we’ve heard for months that the finale will be the debut of Negan who will use his barbed wire covered baseball bat to beat to death one of our favorites. We even knew the name of the bat a few months ago. (Lucille)

So for the last 14 minutes and 50 seconds (minus commercials, of course) we hear a long winded monologue by Negan with an eenie-meenie-miney-mo chant which is not done in the ordinary way for the sole purpose of misleading the audience and finishing with the scene that we all knew was coming but failing to disclose the outcome.

Hey guys. I’m going to write a show where I tell you the ending 4 months in advance, but I want 20 million people to watch. Nobody would watch my show, but the writers of TWD are counting on our loyalty to feed us this sludge and have us keep watching.

The show needs to pick up the fucking pace and show some real progress towards…well, something. No more long conversations about how we have to kill now and the other person saying no we don’t. Then nine episodes later the roles are reversed and they argue from different sides. We’ve done that for years now.

TWD officially jumped the shark last night, and I hope that the season after next will be the last so that the show can be watchable again by having the writers take us to some sort of conclusion.

No, you spoilered FUTURE events, which anyone with half a brain knows is a fucking spoiler.

Stop posting fucking spoilers.

Aren’t they filming the Walking Dead during the hiatus of the Walking Dead?

They should have taken out the first road block, but I believe the excuse was that Rick was afraid that Maggie would be injured in a fire fight.

If they haven’t already started S7 production, I’m sure they will be very soon. We’ll find out who died long before next season airs based on external sightings/stalkings of the actors. Posts from people who saw Soandso in London with a new wacky hairstyle while all the other TWD actors are on set in Georgia (or wherever they shoot). Something very similar happened with Emily Kinney, which effectively leaked Beth’s death in advance. And we all knew Glenn didn’t die in the midseason because of the shots of Yeun on set with Jesus.

What exactly are the Alexandrians going to produce for the Saviors? They can’t farm worth a damn, and while they have a lot of nice stuff like solar panels it’s not like they can make solar panels so that’s it once if Negan seizes them.

I’m thinking the Asian woman since it would be odd to add a another teenage boy to the show (especially if they decide to bring back Tobias). She also seems to know a lot more about what’s going on than anyone else.

I though that’s what Glenn was trying to do when Negan shut him down.

True. I wonder how long the producers can wait until they have to let the actor know they’re not going not coming back for the next season. Granted the actors are still almost certainly obligated to keep their mouths shut until October.

It would fit with her returning to religion. Since that religion is Roman Catholicism suicide’s out of the question. They aren’t any priests left either to grant her Absolution for all of her sins.

“Hiatus” is the industry term for down times between production, not airing.

They’ve shown themselves to be good muscle. Negan might want them as conquerers/collectors.

Does the fact that it took three blows before the wackee passed out matter? You think Glen could survive three blows with a bat before blacking out?

In the comic, after the first blow crushes the skull and pops out an eye, the victim is still semi-alert.

Synopsis from Wiki, names redacted:

The first blow fractures ()'s skull and pops out an eye. Everyone cries, looking horrified and angry at Negan. Negan then taunts the still conscious and now brain-damaged (), who () and () for (). Negan then repeatedly and brutally smashes Lucille into ()'s head, leaving a mass of broken bone, smashed brains, and spattered blood.

Instead of showing us the horror of a member of our team getting beat to death we get yet another cheap cliff hanger ending with no purpose at all. Had the season ended without Neagan actually killing anyone (say fade to black right when he get to the “it” part of you are it) it would have been more effective. Had they shown us someone getting beat to death it would have been more effective. The fact that we now have months of not really giving a shit because yet again the writers suck a wet bag of puss infected syphilitic donkey balls is really less effective. I just wish the show would stop all pretense of even making the effort at good writing. Its the over all unevenness that drives me crazy.

The season final was BORING.

Just saw it. Terrible.

What a ludicrously bad choice for the writers. Just terrible.

Well, when Carol shows up to rescue their sorry asses, I look forward to her eyeroll, her plaintive sigh of “what, again?” and the mwah-mwaaaah of the sad trombone on the soundtrack.
