The Walking Dead; 7.06 "Swear" (open spoilers)

[QUOTE=AMC]
Someone stumbles upon a brand new society unlike anything seen before.

Only 3 episodes left until the winter hiatus. Alanna Masterson, Jonah Ray, & Cassandra Peterson are on Talking Dead.

Hmm, Cassandra Peterson, or her more famous alter ego, I wonder?..

Might be worth sticking around for TTD…

…Unpleasant… Dreams…

They just did the check in with Chris Hardwick; she’s not in character like she was on Comic Book Men.

I actually find it more amusing when a famous performer appears out of character, yet you get the occasional snippets/glimpses of their character peeking through, maybe just a tone of voice, or a fleeting facial expression, it’ll be a challenge to grab those fleeting “Elvira-isms” from C.P…

I still think that Tara will sell out Oceanside before it’s all over.

Devoting a show to Tara? This is one of the reasons the ratings are dropping. No one character is interesting enough for 1 hour, especially a second tier character. Its an ensemble show. They need many parts for the show to work. And things are going soap opera slow. 6 shows and whats happened. Negan killed 2 people, He took some stuff, we got introduced to 2 new communities. About 7 hours tv time. If they would have been this slow early in their series, they would have spent 5 show in the CDC. And the Governor was a much more fleshed out character than Negan has been so far. Still overall enjoying the show, but not as much.

She should have been killed about 7 different times, at least, in that waste of an hour. Bad episode. Bad episode. I’m starting to lose my patience with this season-- it’s just not doing it for me.

I forgot that Tara and Black Guy existed.

If they’ve been out scavenging for 2 weeks and haven’t found jack shit, sounds like Alexandria might have a hard time meeting Negan’s quota.
So I guess we have 2 episodes to unite all these groups now in a mid-season cliffhanger before they go off to war against the Saviors in the second half of the season?

I actually have a bit more esteem for Tara. This episode rounded her out some, and that’s never really a bad thing.

Tara’s a fun character, and finding a new community in this post-apocalyptic world is always neat. But concentrating on this for the whole episode? Sheesh!

Going into this episode I knew it was going to be all about Tara and Heath so I had low expectations. I was genuinely surprised. Tara actually had a personality in this one! It was interesting to see her with some sarcasm and wit for a change. I liked the way she said “we’re in this together” right before they fell off the bridge, proving to Heath that they’re all an equal part of ASZ.

I was hoping for a really dramatic scene about telling Tara everything that had happened since she left, so that would be my only real nitpick about the episode.

Anyone have any clue as to what the ID card that said PPP is from?

I’d put them towards the bottom of the list of “most qualified scavengers” in Rick’s group. But I still think your concern is well founded. Assuming The Saviors are working every group around (a safe assumption, I think), there’s going to be slim pickings real soon.

Tara was also an idiot-- she should have gone along with the Oceanside folk and then waited for her opportunity to escape. Did she never see any Mafia movies where two guys take the defecting newbie out for a ride?

Tara has had the same personality since the episode were her and her sister met the governor. She’s been in the background ever since that story ended though.

So wait… Was going to Alexandria a ruse and the two women were really taking Tara out to execute her? If so, why not just stop and shoot her? Or pop her in the back of the head while walking? Was there something that tipped Tara off causing her to run at the first opportunity?

At first I thought she was just taking an opportunity to escape but now I’m not sure what happened there.

Still, the Saviors are not that big a group in the grand scheme of…the world. I’ve mentioned this before, but if 99.999% of the population effectively vanished tomorrow, all the goods don’t just disappear. I imagine that a few thousand people can live off of the left-behinds of the greater DC metro area for a really long time.

They don’t need to dress like hobos. Yes, I know it gives more of a post apocalyptic feel, but IRL they would be able to scavenge any J Crew or North Face store for brand new clothes every day. Hell, they could drive down I-95 in a B2 Spirit, Last Man on Earth style if they wanted.
I know Tara’s still has mixed feelings about being part of the Governor’s army and wiping out that Savior outpost. But after trying to kill me at least twice, I might be inclined to just go back, kill all them bitches and take their guns.
Also, I feel like Negan has been kind of lenient for a local warlord. Given that they wiped out like 20 Saviors in an outpost (plus a few road patrols), he didn’t just line all the men up and shoot them. One head smashing (a second provoked by Daryl) and parking an old Gremlin inside the walls to attract zombies? Most of The Kingdom don’t even know they are dealing with the Saviors at all.

I actually like Tara for the first time now. My expectations have been so knocked down this season, that I am not upset that the whole episode was dedicated to her. Seems like the writers/producers have to deal with dragging a story out and manage payroll, so the so-called ensemble cast cannot be in every episode.

Yes.

Tara was walking and saw a bell (which were used to warn the camp/draw off the dead, and which she had been told we’re placed as far as a few miles out). Then she asked how far they were to the bridge and was told “halfway.” And I’m certain she was cognizant of the fact that her only “friend” wasn’t there- the only one not down with killing outsiders on sight.

To the first question: yes. Although the editing for continuity was a bit funky, I’m assuming they wanted to bump her off out of earshot (or at least sight) of the camp, maybe to keep the sound of the shot from attracting walkers. My impression is that Tara knew she was going to be executed right from the start and volunteered to take care of the walker they encountered in the woods to put at least some minimal distance between her and her ‘escorts’.

We shoot strangers on sight. No, you shoot at strangers and miss them about 20 times. When they shoot the walkers, they never miss. They need to go back to the days of single shot guns when every shot had to count.
I keep thinking that this show has to get better, but again, I am wrong. This was a really bad and pointless episode. I’d say the writers (?) are running out of ideas, but that happened some time ago.

Especially the “car mysteriously abducts a minor member of the group with no immediate resolution” plot.
