The Walking Dead; 8.01 "Mercy" (open spoilers)

Yeah… da fuck is up with the windows…

That is what a daydream is, you’re in one place or time dreaming of another. P. S. I know nothing, I am just guessing!

How’d you like the kamikaze RV?

I really liked Talking Dead, afterwards, even though it was an over-the-top LOVE FEST.

I wonder: How long IS Carl’s hair going to get?..Where were Shane, Abraham, and the Governor in the show? Not even a ‘sorry I can’t be there’ video? … Isn’t Abraham supposed to be showing up in the Fear TWD/The Walking Dead crossover show coming up? Funny he wasn’t mentioned at all.

As for the episode (Mercy) - it was OK. I hope Rick’s dreams of a rosy domestic future aren’t just the fantasies of a dying Rick. It’s possible he could be tragically bumped off, as Maggie seems to be revving up to assume leadership.

On Talking Dead, I didn’t think Jeffrey Dean Morgan really deserved a big walk-on near the end, as if he is the most fabulously talented Walking Dead actor to ever grace the show. He annoys me and I can’t wait till he is dispatched in a most gratifying manner…And did ‘Andrea’ make an appearance? Did I miss her?

Yes. I kept asking myself that question, too. Also, the fake “older Rick” looked very… fake. What was up with that?

Our guys are now super-ninjas, though, so there’s that! It was OK. A little too pat for my tastes, but OK.

Nice to see Carol back in Action.

Gabriel seems to be the next one the dead list wall. Though I’ve got no real idea what was going on there, waiting for the zombie hoard? Just so the local coward/betrayer can get away? Seems the writes standard thing to have a character to hate, let them get redeemed, and then kill them…

Seems the writer are still up to their usual faking tricks, with old rick and distress/close up rick, for erm, no real reason??

And where were all the rest of that army? I thought they had so much more than ricks lot, seemed to be about six of the saviours in total. I also thought the herd would be much more damaging. It looked like a several thousand sized herd when seen from above on the flyover. Then it was the usual 20 odd extras sized at the end…

In recent series, I’ve reckoned the good episodes are 1, 7+8 and 15. So six boring ones to go before something happens…

So did bowl haircut lady survive the finale? I assume she will be back if she did…

I assume the Garbage Goths are still aligned with The Saviors? The bit with Gabriel was a bit eye-rollie for sure.

Fake older Rick was only about four years older than current Rick, the only difference was grey hair and a limp.

Yes, judging by Judith’s age. Still, it reminded me of The Last Temptation of Christ.

It’s just that the hair and beard looks soooooo fake. And they conveniently only showed Carl sort of flash through the room, so they didn’t have to age him.

I just don’t get the writers, though, with the scenes with Negan. This is the freakin’ ZA, not some James Bond movie where you chat with your adversaries instead of killing them. Carol would not have dithered like that!

Yeah that was pretty lame. I spent that whole scene going JUST SHOOT HIM JUST SHOOT HIM JUST SHOOT HIM. Of course when they eventually do they miss absolutely everyone so it would have been pointless anyways.

What was the whole bit with sad Rick in the woods and the reflections from the stained glass window? I don’t get it.

It’s art, dude. A-R-T.

When did this start?

Rick is daydreaming about the future. I think they held off shooting people at the sanctuary because Rick wants to recruit them, Dwight is in on it.

My son ,who has read the comics, says Negan and Rick will work together. In sort of a truce. We will see, I don’t see the producers wanting to get rid of J.D. Morgan too quickly!

Rick does keep insisting that “Only one person needs to die.”

It’s considered courtesy to others not to spoiler things from the comics. Many of us have not read them.

For that matter, the TV writers do not completely follow the comic. Daryl isn’t in the comic, and I believe Carol was killed off early on in the comic.

What I suspect may happen, based on my understanding of the comics:

Jadis and the Garbage People will take on the role of the Whisperers and their leader Alpha in the comics.

Which if I’m right, will kind of be garbage. TWD has a bad habit of portraying Rick and his team as totally outclassed underdogs until the moment where they decide not to.

I suspect they were just lighting up the main building where all the Saviors live.

Although I thought the whole “All Out War” was done poorly because I couldn’t figure out what they heck was going on or where all the Saviors were going. There’s convoys going here and there. Some blowing up. Sentries being killed yet no one seems to notice they aren’t reporting in. Their attacking the main base with corrugated tin plated vehicles (which would be about as effective as corrugated cardboard) while another group attacks the satellite office?
And Negan and Gabriel:

“I hope you have your shitting pants on…”
“What?”
“…because you are about to shit your pants!”
"…I…don’t have special pants I shit in…do you have ‘shitting pants’?
“No! I never shit my pants!”
“But…you do take shits…right? Do you have special pants you take a shit in?”
“…”
“I mean…I just take my pants off and then take a shit. It’s not like I have special pants I wear for when I think I might have to shit that day.”
“I…”
“Also, I’m I meant to be shitting because you’re in here with me or because there are a thousand flesh-eating walkers on the other side of this door? I mean it’s not like one sweetens the deal for the other…or…were you trying to tell me you have to take a shit while we’re stuck in here?”
