What will be the bigger disappointment: salvaging an employee, or canning her for being a waste of oxygen?
Blurf.
I get internet tomorrow! Tomorrow I also get to [del]shoot[/del] videotape my boss. Timing is going to be tight, I’m afraid.
Guess I didn’t press the <Submit> button earlier… Outsida Philly it was 70º this morning, going up to 88º today. Sun was low on the horizon & blinding coming home this morning but is now high up in the blue sky. Wish I could ‘irk’ from home with today’s weather. sigh.
My mom just called - she’s got $50 in her hot little hands and the guy who bought her piece of crap mower is coming back with a trailer to pick it up. She was absolutely amazed that anyone would give her money for it. Plus she’d just finished mowing her yard, so the timing was great.
I may have created a Craigslist addict! She had no idea such a wonder existed!!
I need lunch.
Hello all!
It’s Dallas. In August. Which means the air outside is like dog breath. It keeps threatening to rain over the past several days. There’s even been some thunder and lightning, but no proper rain. Which is sad, because we could use it.
Thanks to phoukabro minor, I am completely caught up on Doctor Who, Community, and Modern Family. I tried but gave up on Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Excellent series, don’t get me wrong, but I found I really didn’t want to spend my time watching mean and nasty people do mean and nasty things.
Work is . . . interesting. Lovely company, lovely people. Nothing is written down. At all. So, I’m busy trying to gather documentation. I’m not running short of things to do.
**Kanga **- I know what you mean about Breaking Bad. **FCD **has started watching it from the beginning on Netflix. I watched 2 episodes, and I just couldn’t take any more. When he watched subsequent shows, I was on the computer, so I heard bits and pieces, but I didn’t have to see the gory, gross stuff. That suits me fine.
Glad you’re enjoying your new job! Sounds like except for the lack of rain, life is good! Yay!
BBBobbio not to worry. Even though she finally did it right, I still documented the fact that it had to be done over due to not followin’ directions. Documented as I have with alllllllll the other stuff. She is required to submit all future paperirk, etc in a timely manner and done correctly. She’s been around long enough (longer than me) to know how but she’s been allowed to slack in the past. I do not like to do stuff other people get paid to do, so no slack from me. Plus, I still hold out hope she’ll actually get that other job offer. Oh please! Oh please! Oh please!
Now it’s N.O.L. time. I’m gonna go munch on me a ham and cheese sammich.
ETA: Hi kanga! Glad the new gig is still goin’ ok.
I have been put in charge of coordinating the roll out of new computer for new hires.
Also, old computers for new hires.
Oh, and old computers for old hires.
And new computers for old hires.
And tracking “open hire” tickets, where there’s an unfilled position which may or may not have equipment on order or may or may not have a laptop gathering dust in a manager’s filing cabinet.
Did I mention there’s no documentation?
New things I’ve learned:
The women in this company are Lysol addicts. Every stall in the bathroom has a can of Lysol, and they get heavy use. By 9 a.m., the bathroom atmosphere is drenched in it. It’s like the other ladies are terrified a germ might find them. Me, I’d rather catch the occasional whiff of butt business than feel my sinuses burn. That’s mostly because I understand that Lysol does not remove the butt business. It just anesthetizes the smell nerves or something.
Also, no one in the world ever gets rid of bookshelves. I’ve been hitting Goodwill and keeping an eye on Craigslist. No bookshelves. Nope.
All the people who do donate furniture apparently smoke, and I can smell cigarette smoke at about one particle per trillion. It never fails. I sniff and say “yeah, last owners were smokers,” and I get looked at funny. Ten minutes later, the other person says “Oh, yeah, I can smell that now.”
Sounds like you are needed.
Doesn’t that feel good?
Forgot to say… gigity drink a beer and cook sump’n is pretty much my homelife.
You have no idea.
It’s also a wonderful, wonderful thing to work at a company where people don’t flinch at every official announcement, because layoffs loom on the horizon.
This company is actually hiring at a frenetic pace. I pull overtime every week. No much, but it’s nice.
Good. You deserve it.
Off to work. See ya 'round 1am.
I actually enjoy Breaking Bad. We started watching from the beginning on Netflix too. I must admit, there are times I just want smack a couple of the characters, but that means they’re playing them well.
I’m going to have to get my son up so we can get crack-a-lackin’ on his packing.
And, what the hell is up with FB? Can’t get on because there’s some sort of “site issue”.
Wet & smells bad? :dubious:
Up and caffeinated, kitties got their ear-drops; Well, they got them IN, we don’t have much of a way to KEEP them in, beyond massaging their ears immediately after to help the drops go further down the canal. Then the cats shake and splat!! Everywhere! Hopefully enough stays in there to help with the little bugs, ugh.
It’s 10 a.m. here in the sunny Imperial Valley, and only 106 degrees + 17percent humidity! The humidity’s been a lot higher lately, so hopefully it goes even lower. You’d think the 115-120 degrees + constant, burning sun would just burn off any humidity but nopers.
I should cart water out to the lawn. We don’t have a hose yet, and luckily we DID have rain, finallly! a couple weeks ago, so that gave us some breathing room, but I’d rather make sure.
I talked to my sister. She, and her fellow MILF Duds survived the Warrior Dash Saturday. Two of them had decent times, while VunderSis and one other were happy to just finish alive.
Sore yesterday and today? She was in pain before they left the event, and the free beer for the competitors did not help.
VunderSis reported that because of the man-made mud, she spent more time on her butt than running, and because of her lack of upper body strength necessary to climb the obstacles, next year’s shorts will have a handprint on each cheek and a label above that says “Push here.” I told her that as many times as she fell, she needs to check her ass for a crack.
I may have to get in shape to do a Dash meself…
What’s the optiminal temperature to bathe a baby in? 'cause I think that’s what we get out of the tap during the summer. Definitely warm, actually quite hot at first, but it simmers down to just ‘nice and warm’ within a few dozen gallons. It’s funny because the first time I used the shower here, I thought the taps were reversed, as it was just hot water coming out of the cold tap. I was halfway through my shower before I realized that, no, they weren’t reversed, there’s just no such thing as cold water here in the summertime. Which saves on the water heater use, for sure!!
Hope the grass <if it IS grass, I am not sure O.o> doesn’t mind warm water!
Just stopping by quickly to say: Hi phoukaroo!
The tap water here has been warm enough that we just set the clothes washer to cold wash/cold rinse.
What we save on not needing to heat water we spend on air conditioning.
