"The world's goin' to hell but I'm still here" MMP

Breakfast today was sausage/cheddar/tomato/onion omelettes (no onion for SWMBO). After lazing about for a couple/three hours I showered and went to the Dollar Store and the supermarket. Still don’t know what’s for dinner. Pork chops again? Chicken-fried steak? Big-ass Hebrew National hot dogs? Quarter-pound cheeseburgers? The missus has a buttload of cheese-and-potato soup with spinach-and feta sausage in it. Too many carbs for me. There’s lots of chili colorado left, which is too spicy for the wife. Or bologna sandwiches. Or grilled cheese sandwiches. I can mix up some tuna salad, or I could make SPAM™ salad.

Mrs. L.A. has been running the patio heater quite a lot, even though it’s been over 50º American. She’s been good about buying the propane, but she sent me to fill two tanks whilst I was out and about. It’s $2.709/gallon.

Shoot, thanks for the reminder!

I gotta thank you for the reminder, maybe it was here, or maybe in the what’s for dinner thread, I’ve got a tub of home made chicken stock that needed to go into the freezer.

taters, could your wrist issues be especially aggravated carpal tunnel?

desert dog, I live in a complex named Redwood Hollow. The nearest redwood is likely ~2K miles from here and the nearest hollow is roughly 40 miles away.

Nice keyring unknown.

Got the Sunday chores done, a couple of cards done in the studio and made some killer aig roll soup (basically eggroll filling with a couple of quarts of chicken stock) for supper. Time for sloth untill bedtime.

Pipe is snaked(N.O.P.), and I cleaned up what wasn’t shop vac-ed .
I have also decided upon Majikal Intertoob Pizza. Since I have yet to eat today. For obvious reasons.

I was just starting some corn chowduh when Wifey kicked me outta the kitchen so’s she could make some bread. At least I’ve got some bacon cutoffs rendering, very slowly, in the soup pot, so It’ll be okay.

Friday night we had spaghetti squash with (canned) chili (don’t judge) over it and shredded cheddar and diced onion on top. Anybody else ever do that? We love it!

I’ve had a very relaxing day today. I was gonna put up some pegboard in the basement, but I’ve decided to do that tomorrow as it will involve creating sawdust and I already showered earlier. Hope everybody else has had a good Sonday. I’ll see you all tomorrow.

Awww. This tickled me.

Thanks for the nice words about the key chains. I probably shouldn’t use fragile metallic threads on them but I doubt that most of them get used. Mom and my BFF are the only ones who actually use what I make, nobody else does because they don’t want to damage them. It’s kind of irritating TBH, I make them to be used. I’ve got the hardware to make 5 more, so stocking stuffers are sorted.

doggie I’m glad your plumbing issues are sorted. I don’t know who declared this week to be the week of icky plumbing issues, but I’m glad its over!

Hubs is firing up the grill for hamburgers, so I guess I should go out and harvest a mater or two. There was a freeze a couple of nights ago, but the plants aren’t badly damaged so I’m not taking them out yet. We rented a place that had a greenhouse once. It was pretty big and I didn’t get good results in the year that we were there, so we haven’t looked at doing another since. Now that FCM is making her greenhouse sound workable I’m starting to look at our yard and think about another one. i is one of those retired drains on society so I have lots of time on my hands to futz around with hobbies.

This is ridiculous. I’ve cut back plants before. I just lopped off 10–count 'em, TEN, runners with spiderettes off Charlotte. So I CAN do this, but every time I approach Al Vocado with scissors to cut him back, I lose my nerve. Someone please tough-talk me into this.

Have heard from both kids, so life is good.

I just realized I haven’t eaten today, either, for not-so-obvious reasons. I haven’t even started contemplating dinner. It won’t contain avocado, though.

How quickly do you go through propane? I’ve never had a patio heater, and I’m curious as to how much fuel they use. It’s nice that she gets so much use out of the heater, isn’t it?

She turns the heater on (high) when she goes out onto the catio, then (usually) turns it off when she comes back inside. ISTM a tank lasts… four days? Five days?

It would be nicer if she waited until it gets cold outside. :frowning:

Fried green tomatoes. OMG.

It’s best for the plant. I’ve grown avocado pits out before - if you don’t trim the top, they get spindly and fall over.
You don’t have to do a big chop, though - simply pinching off the growing tip is sufficient to encourage side branching.

unknown That’s very pretty (and clearly done by an expert).

That’s a lot of propane…

The rain is almost here! I am very excited.

Evening all. Enjoyed the college soccer games with my players (or about 25% of them), beautiful weather outside. But now it’s 50F out and I’m about to turn the heater on for the first time this fall, cause it’s getting cold in here.

Just finished a Big Bowl O’Sallit for dinner (lunch was 2 hot dogs, popcorn and a Coke–$8 total–at the soccer park). So set until tomorrow.

nellie, just listen to this song (turn on CC if you want to understand the Mongolian) and you’ll be ready to conquer Eurasia and Persia…the plant doesn’t stand a chance The HU - Wolf Totem (Official Music Video) - YouTube

Unknown, those look nice.

oopsie, glad they could get the surgery rescheduled at an opportune time. Hope all goes according to plan and Murphy gets distracted on the way to your house…

FCM, the bread sounds good…and hope the kid flipped.

OK, enough for this evening. Everyone take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Okay. I have nibbled on cheese ‘n’ things, hauled out both snakes for a bit of reptile therapy, and - yes, having thoroughly washed my hands - am about to chow down on a frozen/baked stuffed chicken boobie.

Ratties all got brown rice tonight, which isn’t the heartiest of rations but they all got birdseed mix AND dried mealworms last night, so they’re OK for protein and such.

… and because posting ^^ made me feel like the chintz-iest of skinflint Scrooges … the ratties all now also got some pasta (a treat rodents universally luuuurve) and some birdseed mix for actual nutrition.

They all hit their water bottles immediately upon being fed, so now “Casa De Shoe” is a cacophony of rattling and scurrying.

We have rain.

I appreciate what you are saying and yes, I do have skills. I should, I’ve been playing with string longer than some Mumpers have been alive. A lady I used to see at these sort of things would bring her bobbin lace to work on.

Bobbin lace is made by sticking pins into a lap pillow sort of thing and then tying knots around the pins with about 42 bobbins, then moving the pattern on the pillow and starting over. She never seemed to even look at her hands even when she was changing pattern, she was chatting and making eye contact and exclaiming on other people’s work while her hands were flying and pins were being jabbed and bobbins going all over the place. If I had tried such a thing, there would have been blood and possibly not all of it would have been mine which would not have been good.

It’s like what hubs once said about a stage artist doing a wonderful card trick. “Anyone can do that, you just have to practice 30,000 times a month.”
