Wow, I do live an exciting life, don’t I?
Lowe’s definitely is short handed. When I went in to pick up my order, there was one rather slow man working customer service and no one at internet pick-up. The customer service guy had 4 people waiting in line and to be fair, I don’t know if he was slow or the man he was helping caused the logjam. I stood around for maybe 5 minutes, then realized there was no one else, so I left. I’ll be heading down that way tomorrow to pick up Roxy after school and I’ll just leave a bit earlier to go by Lowe’s first.
Then on Tuesday, I go down later to watch Roxy and feed her supper while my daughter has her ultrasound appointment at 5:30. If Tobias is still breech, they’ll be scheduling her for a C-section. If he flipped, they’ll schedule to induce her a week early, because of the gestational diabetes. So we’re now looking at Nov 15-ish for his arrival. The decision will be made with the Dr next week. Tune in then…
I just finished making a batch of ‘nanner bread - 2 regular size loaves and 4 little loaves. The small loaves will go to the inlaws’ freezer, the others will be ingested when we get there. I need to make a list of what we’re taking and rearrange the freezers so all the stuff going with us is in one place, preferably on one shelf.
And I found a roll of plastic in the garage - I’ll use it to make a double-wrap for the greenhouse. It dropped into the low 60s out there overnight, while the outside temp hit 50. That doesn’t bode well for nights in the 40s or lower. So I’ll get the second layer in today. I really don’t want to move it all into the basement, but I do want fresh 'maters and cukes this winter.
Forgot to share this yesterday. Daughter’s married name is Green, and she was trying to teach Roxy her full name. But Roxy wasn’t having it.“No, Mama! Papa is black and you’re white and I’m brown!” There are colors and there are names and never the two shall intersect!
OK, stop distracting me - I have a greenhouse to wrap!
And I have a drain backup in the kitchen.
And I truly loath the nice Indian lady who answers the emergency contact number, and insists on going though the entire. fucking. checklist. TVCTPMO Employee of The Month.
Waaaay too adorable! I love her style!
Yeah, she is. I believe that trait passes along the maternal like and skips a generation. And she seems to have her grandpa’s engineering inclination - the kid loves to build. We have high hopes for her!
And for the record, the 'nanner bread is out of the oven and cooling. It smells amazing!! Soon it will be wrapped and frozen ahead of our trip to FL. My inlaws are lucky to have me in the family. I’m a gem!
Happy Sunday!
Was 48 degrees at the park this morning.
I could have used another layer of clothing.
Everybody left kind of early, and I was ready. An hour and a half of chilly was enough for me.
I felt kind of bad, because Coco wasn’t ready to leave yet and I usually hang out until she is ready. However, Remus got there as we were leaving and those two are a good play match. Probably better without Echo there, as Remus is timid of Echo.
He did chase after her the other day, then suddenly stopped like, Oh crap! I’m chasing the wrong dog.
My lawn got mowed this morning.
I didn’t get laundry done yesterday, so that is on the agenda for today.
My son is pissing me off though. He keeps saying he is going to cook so I am holding off on laundry until he is done. He said he was going out there a half hour ago. I could have gotten another load washed in that time.
My washer and dryer are in the kitchen and the washer connects to the kitchen sink. Can’t do much else in there when doing laundry. I try to do it when he’s sleeping, but that’s not happening today.
I kind of like the color Area 51. It’s different.
I wanted to buy a chuck roast yesterday, to make a pot roast. It was over $30. This is supposed to be the cheap cut!
Pardon me. Could you explain this lovely acronym? Thank you in advance, your friend, etc, etc
Today it might rain! Water, from the sky! I am cautiously optimistic.
The Vast Conspiracy To Piss Me Off
I haven’t posted in a few days (but I’ve read everything!), so I figured I’d jump in before the new thread starts tomorrow…
It finally feels like fall! Yesterday’s rain brought a cold front, and right now (~1:30pm ET) it’s 61 degrees but with a steady breeze that makes it feel cooler. I haven’t turned my heat on yet, but my fingers are suddenly noticeably cold and I think tonight’s overnight low is going to be in the 40s, so I can see firing up the ol’ furnace in a little while.
I got a new surgery date! The bariatric center called on Friday afternoon: I’ll be having my gastric bypass on 11/22, and the liquid diet will start on 11/8. I’m relieved that the whole cardiologist mishegas only resulted in a 3-week delay. And having surgery on the Monday before Thanksgiving is actually better timing for me work-wise: I can plan to take the entire week off, and things should be fairly quiet while I’m out (
). It also gives my new hire more than a month to get his sea legs.
My Thanksgiving tradition for many years has been to go to my best friends’ house (along with their extended family, who have become like family to me as well), but this year my attendance will be a game-day decision. And Black Friday shopping will be entirely out of the question, but that’s OK…just this once. Next year’s Black Friday shopping will be EPIC, because I’ll be a year post-op and should be close to my goal weight!!
I had dinner with said best friends last night, and my “Last Supper” has been rescheduled for 11/7. I told them it wasn’t necessary, but J insists that she wants to do it. She’s a great cook, and will make all of my favorites of hers: so far the menu includes 7-layer dip, Yorkshire pudding (which necessitates roast beef), roasted potatoes, and Christmas cookies (her chocolate chip cookies are also big favorites, but I’ll miss the shortbread more). Both J and S retired early (they’re in their early 60s), and they’ll both take me to Tuesday morning’s endoscopy – which should be my last pre-op test. I am so lucky to have such great friends in my life.
(and, yes, I’m lucky to have you guys as well )
Bailey had her annual exam and lab work a week ago yesterday, and no one has contacted me with the results yet. Usually they call within a day or two. I was giving them the week, but got distracted on Friday with the surgery stuff; I’ll have to call the practice tomorrow. I know they’re having staffing issues – they actually had to close for 1-2 days a few months ago due to lack of staff – but it’s still frustrating when customer service takes a nosedive. And I’m not crazy about the vet who has seen Bailey the last couple of times; she’s not great at communicating, at least on the phone (she tends to phrase information as questions that I should already know the answers to). I’m hoping that will improve whenever owners are finally allowed back in the exam rooms.
Time to figure out what I want for lunch. I don’t have much in the house these days, and this weekend I seem to be in “I only have 3 more weeks to eat!!” mode, so I believe there is a DoorDash order in my near future…
It the same app housing developers use for naming their projects, but with a different vocabulary.
You know, like Elk Creek Knoll Estates in an area not known for Elk, and there are neither creeks nor knolls in sight.
When I was creating a large city setting for my D&D gang I wrote a quick program that had lists of 100 adjectives, persons, animals, and objects, then would string them together like [person]'s Arms or [animal] and [adjective] [object] for all the countless taverns and inns in town.
After much grooming of the lists, about a third of them were Huh? a third, Eh, okay and a third pretty darn goon, IMHO.
I’m proud to report that the stain successfully came out 100%.
This might be my biggest achievement of the week.
Fear my domestic prowess!
I take back crabbing about the sun. Came to work in a cranky-tastic mood. Spent my lunch break sitting in my car with my face & both arms hanging out the window, just soaking up that Vitamin D, and I feel much calmer now.
Needed some sunshine & fresh air, apparently!
Correct
Plumber’s running an 80 foot snake (not Pretzel). A second time.
Happy Sunday!
Hubs put shelves up in the hobby room and is amazed at how much easier it is to find stuff. He’s cooking some beer now and George just got yelled at. George is too helpful for his own good!
We used to have a washing machine we rolled into the kitchen and hooked to the sink when we wanted to do laundry. We couldn’t just hook it up and go to work either cause sometimes it would overflow the sink and someone needed to be home and awake to deal with the flooding. Scheduling cooking around laundry isn’t the most convenient thing in the world.
I wanted to get the first layer of my needlework house completed before the convention but I got distracted and don’t think I have time now. The sort of person who goes to needlework conventions usually has forgotten more than I know and they intimidate the heck out of me. They are all nice and sweet and helpful, but I wanted to be doing something that showed I have skills too. I could probably cheat and start on some of the surface work, but I can’t do much because adding too much bulk in just one area before finishing all of the supporting bottom layer will make the canvas sag and warp.
The key rings that distracted me use bits and pieces of left over floss and fabric, which is nice. It took several tries before I figured out how to attach the hardware and George wasn’t a fan of me banging on it with a hammer. Christmas is almost here and I do need to hurry and get stuff in the mail so there is a chance the packages will be delivered this year.
Pretty, and I expect it would be easy to find by feel (like in an over-crowded purse!)
I just finished adding a layer of plastic to the greenhouse, plus I planted 4 more 'mater seeds because I apparently damaged several of the seedlings I transplanted yesterday. I also rearranged a couple of planters in the hope of keeping them warmer. Depending on how this goes, I can still add one more section of plastic if necessary to contain the warm air. But not today. We’ll just see how it goes. On the plus side, the timer on the light works great!
I started watching Bleak Street on Brit Box - I’ve been viewing a bunch of Dickens’ works that I never read. Easy-peasy!
Now, what to do for supper…
Got nothing done today, and am quite proud of that. Well aside from dishwasher, vacuuming, and folding the laundry, I even put the clean dishes away.
I’ve got some chicken marinating in some teriyaki-ish sauce, gonna turn it into yakisoba with noodles, snow peas, broccoli, and shitaki mushrooms.
No Red Sox game today, so maybe I’ll catch up with that Foundation series on the tube.
I almost logged on here at 3:00 a.m. because I couldn’t sleep last night. I had a late evening phone call that got me empathetically upset, so the Sandman rolled his eyes and left. I finally got to sleep at 4:00. Missed a couple phone calls this morning from friends needing to talk. Is it a full moon or something?
I’m tired but reasonably happy (despite the itching).
Blech. If my walls are going to be the color of aliens, I want Martian green. Not to be confused, of course, with Roxy’s Green, which is apparently brown. Or white. Or black. Speaking of whom…

And she seems to have her grandpa’s engineering inclination - the kid loves to build. We have high hopes for her!
I do, too, but I was thinking more along the line of US President. If she’s like her gramma, she’ll do both, probably before breakfast.
Sari, which won out, food or laundry?
Pretty key ring, nameless! (I’m trying to use your MPSIMS name.)

Plumber’s running an 80 foot snake (not Pretzel).
This gave me a chuckle. If only Pretzel were a water moccasin, shoe could offer a whole new kind of plumbing service.
Spent part of yesterday and another half hour today getting the RV prepped for its long winter nap. We’ll put the cover on it in the next couple of days. This is always a sad process every year as it means the end of our road trips. We always set it up for quick bug-out or for temporary living quarters during the winter months in case of some unforeseen disaster. The generator came in really handy last winter when we lost power for three days. I ran an extension cord to the chest freezer which prevented the loss of all that food.
Tonight’s dinner will be hard-shell tacos and Mexican rice while watching the Thorns’ soccer game.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated virtually, had a hyuuuuuuuuge and very good, if’n I do say so myself, “Sunday Dinner”, got the kitchen all cleanded up, achieved nappage, and the biiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. All in all, not a bad Sunday. Hope everyone else has had a good day.
doggio hope the plumbin’ woes are fixed soonest if they are not already. ICK!

Now, what to do for supper…
FCD wanted pizza, so he’s fetching it right now.
