Sounds like we’ve got a few new-80s. Cornballah, Makig, anyone else? But we should start chain running heroics with them so they can get some triumph gear. I can hop on Lightbird to shorten the queue times, just hit me up.
As for tonight, Looks like Shin Kell is out and possibly Tom Scud too. I can try to tank on Lightbird, if we are desperate.
JayRx1981 / Rahuul (H - Druid)/ Free any night after 10pm EST
Runestar / Kalathan (D/T - Pally). Any nights but Mon/Wed, but could probably switch my Wednesday night - I pair up with a friend and we adventure together.
Jragon / Jsor (D - Death Knight) / Free any night time slot (this semester thru summer at least) / Arizona time zone (so I vary between what DST we’re on at any given moment).
The SDMB Lurker known as : Anshar / (D - Hunter) / ? / ?
Mister Rik / Keliraeda (D - Pally) Can’t really commit to this, though, since my irregular work schedule interferes with attending a regularly-scheduled event.
Yeah, Panzera is my tank alt, though, at least per wow-heroes, he’s only barely qualified to tank ToC-10 (in the green). I’ll be happy to try it on him if we need to, but then we lose Rahuul’s raid heals. I meant to chain run him to get his last two tier9 pieces this weekend, but fell in love with my budding paladin and played him all weekend instead.
It doesn’t look like we will have the tanks for ICC tonight, unfortunately. Depending on who is available we might be able to do ToC, Ony or VoA. Or we could chain-run heroics for folks who need it.
Without Reins or Muz, our tanks were Darland and Lightbird - props to Bird for benching his mage and being willing to step up to tank with LB. That left us one DPS short, which we plugged with a Mage pug.
Just as we were putting the raid together the Horde won WG, and none of us were saved to VoA (and several had never done it before) so we went there instead of finishing ToC or starting ICC. I confess I had my doubts that we could pull it off the Frost guy (I can’t keep their names straight) but we one-shotted him with maybe one casualty (?) and then cut through the other three bosses as well. Massive achievement spam in guild chat.
Afterward some of us ran H-Gundrak and tried to get the “Share the Love” achievement by letting everyone get gored by the rhino, but no matter what we did we couldn’t get it to go after the tank, even when only the tank and healer were left alive.
Glad Darland was able to make it - I was feeling bad about leaving you tank-short. Hope we can do another VoA some time when I’m around - I’d like to do the first two bosses while they’re still sorta-kinda-end game content.
I think you need to have an offtank (tank spec or at least a platie melee dps) to do “Share the Love” - the rhino guy only gores people who are not at the top of his threat list.
We grew to suspect that, and toward the end (when it was just me and LB left alive) I tried taunting off the tank – but he killed me too quickly for it to work.
He never gores the tank (i.e., whoever’s highest on threat). So you need someone who can taunt off and hold him without getting gibbed–which pretty much requires an actual defense-capped OT.
I have gotten gored as the tank before, but it was while Army of the Dead was running, so the ghouls were at the top of the aggro list. (When I realized what had happened, I tried to get the rest of the group to back off dps so we could get the achieve, but no such luck.)
Yup, AotD is probably the best way to do this with one tank (although you have to hope your tank gets gored while it’s up). You could also do it with a couple of hunters using taunt (Distracting Shot) + Deterrence.
It’s also obviously pretty easy with two actual tanks, although it’s important for DPS to not die to the Whirlwind (or whatever he does that always seems to kill a melee DPS in my randoms).
Yeah, thanks to Darland who talked me through Off-tanking. And the healer who kept me alive. Keyne(?) Rahuul maybe.
I’m such a ranged dpser that it was a little uncomfortable standing so close to the bosses. Especially when I only come to their knees.
I wish RB put out the amount of dps the sub-mage did. I still have some work to do on gear. Maybe I need to go back to collecting cash for some ICC-crafted gear.
I’m sure Rahuul helped out but I was healing the tanks - and I was pretty worried going in, because it’s only the second raid I’ve done with Keyne (after ToC with Reins and Muz tanking). I was worried I wasn’t up to it, but I found out that I can keep up a sustained HoL firehose on two tanks for longer than I would have expected. In a lot of ways it was much easier than some of the heroics I’ve been running.
Yeah, the healing was nicely done. We also had the perfect combo (Pally + Druid) for handling it. We had a back-up healer ready to go if needed, I think.
And yeah, with more buffs and a set focus (tanks only), I would imagine Pally raid healing is a bit more straightforward than 5-mans. It’s all about getting the sustainability up, AFAIK.
I do use Judgement of Light whenever I need a heal and Divine Storm (which has the T10 bonus cooldown reset) and since I’m melee, the tanks usually get some benefit, being the closest…so make that 2.25 healers!
Well if we’re going there I should mention my Death Strike with Vamp Blood popped heals me for 25% of my max HP! But I didn’t need to raise and sac my pet, so I’m thinking the tank heals were covered.
