Hmmmm…that’s on the Vent window, correct? I wasn’t using that because I was full screen on the game, but I saw towards the bottom of the screen (just above the bottom 2 action bars) that a little transparent window with the speaker symbol there would have a name flash on when they were talking, but it only happened for certain players talking, but not all of the players in our group who were logged into Vent.
AHA! You were using the in-game voice chat and Vent simultaneously. AFAIK, there’s no way for Vent to interface with WoW, so if you can’t see the window, you won’t know who’s talking. However, the built-in voice chat will display who is talking. So probably, you had it enabled and didn’t realize it, as did some people in the raid, and they were doing something like using the same PTT key for Vent and for the in-game voice chat.
So…I should disable the WoW in-game chat, and find the option to toggle to make the vent window stay on top of the game window, OR do I have to narrow the game window, move it to one side and put the Vent window on the other side so I can see both?
I’ve done that – I have the same PTT button for the in-game chat and vent. But now that we have a vent channel, I probably won’t use the ingame chat much.
If you want to see who’s talking, you’ll either have to tab back and forth or make your WoW window smaller. Ideally people should identify themselves when they talk unless they are one of the raid leaders (whose voice you would learn to recognize).
Oh, god, the suicide rates alone would skyrocket…
SFG keeps yelling at me during Flame Wreath! /wrist
IMO, just leave Vent in the background. That’s what I do–I’m not even watching it unless I’m doing something like changing channels or just hovering somewhere before a raid. Like **Skammer **said, you’ll learn to recognize the RL’s voice pretty quickly–everyone else you’ll figure out sooner or later, assuming they talk enough, and in the beginning they should identify themselves so everyone knows who’s talking.
So, for example, in a PUG, if I die, I’ll say “Sleutel’s dead,” not “I’m dead.” (Note: I only do this when I’m tanking. If a tank or a healer goes down, that’s important. If a DPS goes down, unless you’ve got a very special role like kiting or interrupting, to be blunt, no one cares. :p)
As long as I’ve got a couple to snuggle up with at night, I can live with that. Acceptable losses and all.
You should have thought of that BEFORE YOU FUCKING MOVED GOD DAMMIT IT’S LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN SHADE BEFORE.

Hmmmm…I’m beginning to see a pattern here…WoW & IRL.
One other thing…I have almost 16K in gold, would it be beneficial to the raid if I was to purchase a Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth or should I focus on spending the gold towards something else?
Shhhhhhh, you’ll scare them off!
The mammoth vendors are definitely useful for a raid. You have to run out to use it, but (a) it means you don’t need an Engineer and (b) you don’t have to keep the Engineer supplied with bots or the mats/money to make them.
That doesn’t mean you *should *get one if there’s something you’d want more, but it’s definitely something that the raid can make use of.
Yeti, I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice, but it’s totally up to you. If I had that much money and no alts to spend it on, I’d be tempted to buy the mammoth for sure.
Well, hopefully by Monday they’ll have finally fixed the bug that’s keeping all Mac G4 players off of the game. Or else I guess I’ll be sitting that one out, too. (is grumpy)
And, praise be to Ogg, it seems to be patched. (That download today? my fault.)
Oh darn! I forgot that monday is the first night of Passover, so i can’t make the raid. sucks for me, but I hope you still get enough to run. Everyone can see the attendance list, right? or should I pass that along through here? I’ll be back the next Monday.
Bird, if you read this… you can right-click on any invitee and make them a moderator for the raid. That gives them the ability to confirm attendees, invite people, etc. I’d suggest making Yeti a moderator in your absence.
If not… we can see who has confirmed, but I don’t think we’ll be able to invite everyone with the click of a button. Minor inconvenience is all.
I might or might not be able to make it, again on account of Passover; depends on how long the in-laws can stand their harmonious family togetherness.
Are you sure about that?
Yay, I bought a headset today so I can talk as well as listen
Just an inexpensive Logitech model to tide me over until I can justify shelling out for that fancy new WoW wireless headset
