Speaking personally, I have yet to find a headset that doesn’t eventually make my ears hurt. (I wear glasses.) So I wear my headset around my neck, with the mic angled up toward my face, and route the audio through my speakers.
Heh - I discovered that for myself yesterday (I wear reading glasses, cuz I’m old). My solution was to just push the earpieces of my glasses (what are those called?) up so that they weren’t pressed between my ears and skull. I don’t know if that would work with prescription glasses, though - the different angle might screw things up visually.
My regular old headphones don’t have this problem - they’re the bigger “ear can” style that surround the whole ear rather than pressing directly on the ear.
ETA: That said, the game really does seem to sound better through headphones than through my iMac’s built-in speakers.
Ohh yeah. When I wear my headset, I hear ambient sounds in the game I never even knew existed.
I’ve tried that way, too, but it (a) warps things a bit and (b) still gets uncomfortable eventually. And I think the bits that go over your ears are called arms.
I just discovered last night that my main’s Sea Turtle mount makes cute noises when you “jump” (actually he hides in his shell and then pops back out). I don’t know if those sounds were added in the latest patch, or if they were always there and I just didn’t hear them.
I’ll have to ask my stepfather when I go to Olive Garden with my family tonight - he used to be an optician.
Wikipedia seems to refer to them as “temple arms,” “temples,” or “arms.”
That’s my solution, too. As SFG pointed out though, it doesn’t eliminate the discomfort – it just doubles the amount of time I can tolerate the headphones.
Good work on 4 Horsemen, Doggies! That fight used to be a nightmare to coordinate with the switches and stuff.
Yeah, once we figured out “Front switch” and “Back switch”…it was just a matter of execution.
Kel’Thuzad…you have officially been put on notice.
Picked up this chest piece last night…fully gemmed and enchanted and ready to put the hurt on some mobbies.
New raid tonight! I was in, then tentative, then in again, Now I’m back to tentative. If I’m there at 8:30 then I’m in This is not normal for me. My Mondays should be free. I have family in from out of town, and they keep changing their plans with other people. So as long as their out with their friends I can run tonight. (This also means that next week, I’m a-ok to go!)
With me there are 7 accepted and 6 tentative. I hope we can find 8-10 to run. KT’s going down!
I was gone all weekend and forgot to switch my status earlier in the week, but Rahuul’s in for tonight (presuming it’s still at 10pm EST) unless others really want the spot.
I may sit this one out - last I looked at the list, aside from one hunter it was all paladins and priests, so I’ll cheerfully make way for more variety.
Feh, the more pallies the easier it gets =) Besides, you can always have my spot. There aren’t any upgrades for Ama in Naxx. But that means someone else will have to learn how to tank
Nice run, guys. Has anyone uploaded the triumphant throne-room picture anywhere?
Next week OS - or do we want to do something else as well?
OS is very quick. Too bad we can’t run it a couple of times.
Eye of Eternity is also pretty quick, but tricky. I hate that one.
We could run OS and then go play with the vehicles at the beginning of Ulduar (Flame Leviathan)
We’ll have to keep an eye on the raid weekly quest. If it’s Ulduar, for example, there’s a good chance some folks will be locked out by Monday if they’ve done the quest. Come to think of it, we were fortunate that didn’t happen with Naxx.
I’m certainly no expert, as it was my first raid, but I thought it went very well. No wipes, although we usually lost 2-3 people per boss fight. I had lots of fun, but man, those Raid bosses take a long time to take down.
Kudoes to Reins for the excellent explanations on the boss fights before we started. Knowing what to expect really helped a lot. It was also the first time that the DBM add-on really came into play for me; I installed it after I’d run all the 5-man heroics, so up until now it really hadn’t provided much new information.
I did have the embarassment of dying when I accidentally touched one of those ‘no-touchy’ globules – I’d missed that we were supposed to be hopping around and avoiding them. I just moused over, saw that their name was yellow, and ignored them. My mistake!
I did get a weapon upgrade though: Death’s Bite to replace my Titansteel Destroyer that I’ve been toting through weeks of heroics, so that was nice.
What, what? Frogger?
Yeah, those of us who knew about the Frogger part forgot to clue in the newbies. It was funny though!
Excellent! That is definitely something I would not have told a newbie about.
Now they can look forward to Frogger II and Frogger III.
Grats on the Naxx clear. Sounds like y’all should knock out OS and EoE next week (I know EoE is annoying, but it’s also kinda fun, and required if you want the Champion of the Frozen Wastes title).
