There's a party goin' on! DC/MD/VA/WV/PA/NC 6/28/03

We’re home, safe and sound. We had a BLAST! Thanks for such a great party. It was great seeing everyone

…I wonder how long it will take to get the feeling back in my hands after that marathon Egyptian Rat Screw session?

It was a nice break from the routine.

Waaaaahhhh I missed it!

I didn’t get a chance to check back in until just now. And I was so close to the bermuda triangle that is the Harpers Ferry area.

Perhaps next time I will be able to join in the fun - but maybe not as a nekkid redhead

Ok. We made it home, safe and sound. That was an amazing party. (And suprisingly, I remember it, regardless of how drunk I truly got.)

I can’t believe I got to meet so many Dopers all in one shot! The Boyfriend had a great time, too. We’ll be posting some of the pictures from the party on his website later. I’ll come back and post a link as soon as we get it done.

Thank you, JC for throwing an awesome party. It was definitely a blast!

Glad to hear you made it back OK, Opal. Your car was making some weird noises.

I got back really late, but safe too. I had such a great time meeting everyone, I can’t even name everyone. Too bad I discovered a previously-hidden allergy. :frowning:

Lucretia, you have the coolest kids.
Airman Doors makes awesome cheesesteaks.
danceswithcats makes a spicy chili.
And of course, JC throws great parties! Thanks so much for putting up with all of us (and buying all that beer)!

Well, I had an out and out blast, and so did my GF. It was cool meeting all the dopers and assorted other people I didn’t know, and Mary Prankster was definitely some worthwhile entertainment (even got a signed CD!). Airman, that was one of the best cheesesteaks I’ve ever had. Thanks for a heluva good time JC.

BTW, JC, I accidentally left a couple of coolers there, a red and white one on the porch and a blue one under the kitchen table. If they’re still there you might want to empty out the one under the kitchen table because it’s got a bag in it that the crab dip I brought spilled a little in. Let me know if they’re still there and I’ll see what I can do about getting them back from you.

The party was very cool. And I’ll second the endorsement of Airman Doors’s cheesesteak-making abilities–those were damn good.

We were wondering who those coolers belonged to. Nice to have the mystery solved.

Thanks again to everyone for coming. We cleaned up some this morning (take charge Mother-in-Law) and then went for ice cream.

Now we’re napping.

Zzzz…

Thanks for the party JC. I had a great time and I ate waaayy too much yummy food. Special thanks to the maker of excellent chili (danceswithcats?) and Airman Doors for the heavenly cheesesteak (and the ride home)

Luckily, when I got home, all was well with the female units. I thought I was in the doghouse some some strange reason, but I wasn’t. I even managed to get some sympathy out of them for my screaming headache.
(Speaking of nausiating headaches… Don’t anyone tell Airman Doors how close I came to puking in his car on the way home… Shhhhhh. )

I regret that I didn’t stick around to hear Mary Prankster’s set right through the end. I wanted to yell “Play ‘Freebird’!” at her.

We figured out what we’d left behind. I knew it would be something… it’s TRADITION!

We left our Boggle game. Consider it donated to the JC household. We’ll get a new one

Interestingly, it seems that my hands are fine today, but the rest of me is covered in bruises from wrestling in the yard. Heh. None of them hurt, though–they’re just extra sexxxxxy.

Is it getting warm in here?

So far we’ve found:

1 guitar strap (Disco Stu)
1 Boggle game (it’s on one of my speakers)
2 coolers (Asylum’s evidently)
Some beer I didn’t buy

Busy day today.

One of the coolers should be mine. It’s the red one with the bungee cords on top. If I don’t go grab it tonight, I’ll grab it tomorrow on my way to work.

If it’s missing, no big deal. That’ll just be one less thing cluttering up my garage. (although I will mourn the loss of the bungee cords. you can never have enough of them)

No no no. I have that one.

But it was identified before you left so I wasn’t counting it.

We also have Bluesman’s pint glass.

B and I have returned (as of like 45 mins ago) from the general DC area and are back in Virginia’s version of Podunk. I am far too, ah, preoccupied with other things (like staying awake long enough to study for two tests and write a paper) to fully recount the Stuff and Things we all did. However:

  1. Never thought I’d beat Polycarp at a game not involving A) running nekkid and/or B) throwing stuff. Beat him, Skulldigger, Captain Amazing and my hunny at Boggle. No idea whose it was … we left it where we’d found it.

  2. Root beer and chili do not mix. However, they don’t explosively mix, either, so that’s good.

  3. I am not, nor have I ever been, responsible for anything my brother did or did not do. I am neither of his parents nor have I ever played either in any stage or otherwise theatrical role. Those wishing to criticize or otherwise comment upon some negative aspect of his behavior this past weekend should direct such at one of my parents (one of whom, conveniently enough, is a member of this board:D). Positive comments, however, are most welcome … mostly since I won’t have to defend him from them;) You Know Who You Are:)

  4. I have seen Captain Amazing run twice now, ever. Once was trying to get a ride from me back to his place (successful) and the other was very early this morning when we got to metro and found out that he was an escalator ride away from the last metro train that night. He made it, I was told (by the station manager), by about three seconds. Interestingly enough, had we actually dropped him off at the station we meant to go to (happened upon one that was closer), I’d have gotten more thoroughly reacquainted with where he lives, as I’d have been driving him there.

  5. The tire swing didn’t break.

  6. Probably not work-safe and don’t want the kids to see it, just in case:Airman Doors expected me to post this link again, so I will:D

Die.

Perhaps that’s the origin of rooti-tooti

The Boggle game was mine, but keep it for future parties, JC

I have pictures up —> http://tinyurl.com/flsq

(Behold, WeirdDave’s balls! It’s on the last page, and I’ve warned you)
There are two short movie clips, too. If anyone else has pictures, please let me know and I’ll add them to this gallery.

The Egyptian Rat Screw rematch was left unfinished in the end. NEXT TIME! NEEEXT TIIIIME!

And to those who DOUBT THE RULES here is a reputable site with the rules as we played them:

and I found this on another site: “one of the rules when I learned it was that you cannot be taught how to play Egyptian Rat Screw…you have to watch and figure out the rules.” (which is the first time I’ve heard outside confirmation of this outside of my own circle of friends)

Oh, and I found this on a site about ERS and almost wet myself: "If the game is completely out of control and no one seems to be playing any cards below a nine, you may be using a pinochle deck. "
