Things that go bump in the MMP

Friday Night Out For Dinner Night.

We went down the beach, and I had a Cobb salad, two half-pieces of garlic bread, and two ginnintonics. Mrs. L.A. has a Manhattan, a bowl of very nice clam chowder, and a half-slice of garlic bread.

Having another g&t. Gon’t know what The Missus is drinking.

Oh, WHAT a gorgeous day and beautiful hike! I’ll post photos later. Taters, I meant Mount Rainier, and for once it wasn’t hiding bashfully behind clouds. We hiked in the Paradise area. My friend is quite slow because she’s a tenderfoot, and the hike is rated Strenuous, so we didn’t get as far as I would have liked, but oh! The fall colors! Sumac and ash and I don’t know what else.

I then had an optometrist appointment. There was some miscommunication because she thought I merely wanted to reorder the last lens I had. Huh? I thought I was very clear that that lens had never improved my vision. Anyway, she ordered a new one. My vision can’t be corrected with glasses, so contacts are my only hope, BUT she said my vision is a little better than it was in August! Woo-hoo!

shoe, count me as another vote for government work. It’s not just the stability; it’s the pension and insurance that are helpful. It’s probably a very long time until you’ll be ready to retire, but when you get closer, you’ll thank yourself.

My hiking buddy was hoping we’d see deer. Meh. I saw plenty back in Wyoming. They hung out in my yard and pooped so much, I was tempted to put up signs that said “Does >” and “Bucks>” like a public restroom. Deer scat is bad for lawns. Once I saw through the window that a deer was preparing to produce pellets, and I ran out screaming, “No, no no! Have you NO decency?” (Answer: No. Decency is overrated. Come poop with us!)

doggio: how goeth Operation Crush? Would it help if I came down and started singing “Close to You” whenever she appeared?

nut , hope the assignment gets done without too much misery.

Sari, your dog park stories remind me of Payton Place. Oh, the scandals!

What a jerk. I once had a principal who came up behind me and playfully kicked my behind. Alas, no witnesses, and the Good Ol’ Boys network had his back. When did you work for the government? Any chance it’s any better today?

I LOVE Monty! Is he single?

WHAT? Why are you people getting such hot weather? It’s October already!

I hope when you awaken tomorrow, you’re feeling happier and more upbeat. :hugs:

I haven’t seen him with anyone. Oh, Mrs. L.A. got him out, so I didn’t have to.

Thanks for the wishes.

And yeah, 90 degrees? I have turned the heat on, it’s headed for 40 tonight.

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and I have two games to coach (one got cancelled) and two to referee, so Saturday should be a pretty full day. Also did the necessary banking and got a nice, hot bath taken, which led to nappage. Soccer tomorrow from 8:30am until 4:30pm, but a couple of breaks in between.

Looking forward to the pictures, nellie; when I was in Seattle many years ago, it was clear and Rainier was beautiful, but never got close to it (one of these days…)

Sari, glad the rottie (and owner) are ok; wonder if the hound’s owner will be back. And I’m sorry for your miserable experience in Government work; I think it’s better now, but tose guys are the pits.

Dinner was a Big Bowl O’Sallit, but the celery has aged and spoiled and I had run out of Salad Dressing, so it wasn’t to great; but it filled what was empty.

VanGo, I have occasionally been known to have a triple-scoop Butter Pecan cone for a meal, so who am I to disagree with brownies and ice cream?

FCM, sounds like a good 'breaking back in" cruise, before trying anything more adventurous. My friend who does cruises for a group of us has been looking around for a good deal, perhaps a Northeastern one (think you did that a while ago), but nothing set. My only cruise plan is sometime in the next couple of years, I want to do Spain and Italy…and of course Antarctica…

OK, need to work out the lineups for soccer tomorrow, then head off to bed for a good night’s rest. All y’all take care.

Damn you / thank you.

Shamed / motivated me into doing both!

Now that I have clean sheets, I oughta take a shower before bed. It was a super-late close, though, because reasons, and I need to figure out some sort of dinner, too.

Nah, that was just snack-y stuff. I have pasta, eggs, frozen stuff, etc. already. Just was craving MOAR CHEESE and really, I mostly needed drinking water. Don’t trust the old-ass pipes in this 'hood, in a state that’s a bit notorious for their lack of maintenance of water infrastructure.

That’s a new one to me! Love these kinds of sayings.

MetalMouse - is there a lot of difference in coaching different age groups? How about boys vs. girls? And are there any mixed teams/leagues or do physical (non-plumbing) differences make it impractical?

We’re going to retake our New England and Canada cruise about this time next year. But there will be one fewer Canadian stop and a day in Newport RI instead. I love Newport!

My right shoulder is pain free and ready to be shot tomorrow. The shingles side still feels bruised. Weird…

Ok, sleepy-bye time. :sleeping::sleeping::sleeping::sleeping:

I hope I did this link right. My favorite is the one with the snowy summit.

Wow, nellie, those are beeeeeyoooootiful pictures! (Yes, the link is fine.) What an amazing hike!

I’ve showered, and - in honor of clean sheets - shaved m’legs. It’s a thing.

Oven is baking a frozen broccoli-stuffed chicken boobie, and has already toasted (and I’ve already eaten) a slice of garlic bread.

The weather is lovely … on paper. Mid 70s highs, mid 50s lows.
But 90% humidity? WTF?

Finally … and may all the gods forgive me … I’ve started yet another cross-stitch hoop. I couldn’t help myself. This one will be a spiral, in a rainbow pattern.

I’m sorry! I had a free hoop! … and some fabric … and all this thread, in fabulous colors … :rainbow:

Wow, that was one tiny meal. Either they’ve severely downsized those chicken things, or else I had the munchies. (Likely: both.)

Anyway, we’re augmenting with a package of Knorr chicken noodle sides, plus some butter-toasted corn flakes.
They’re a long-ago “desperation dinner” that turned into something beloved.

You know corn flake coated baked chicken? The recipe is everywhere … and it’s good.

One night, back when Other Shoe was in the hospital, I started fixing myself a small meal. Had the corn flakes, had the butter … { sniff } wooof! Okay, chicken no good.

At that point, I was in full-on “fuck it” mode (having your beloved in ICU for weeks on end will do that to ya) and simply proceeded with the recipe … sans chicken.
Just corn flakes, butter, and a toaster oven.

Damn! It hit the SPOT as far as comfort food: buttery, crunchy, easy.

Hadn’t had it in a while, still had a warm oven from the (tiny!) broccoli stuffed chicken. Might have some cheese, too, from earlier store run. Trying to eat, Mumpers!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Today Catholic Holy day is Holy Guardian Angels. Mine was last seen behind a 7-11 chugging Four Lokos and screaming at the dumpster.

It goes. There’s frequently not a lot of time to talk.

I do like to see a snowy summit, especially after the earlier heat wave took so much of it. The pictures are gorgeous.

As someone who eats every last bit of corn flake topping (as long as it’s not too burned), I thoroughly approve.

And because I’m cheeky, do you serve chocolate coated corn flakes for dessert? Never had them until I moved to Switzerland and I really like them, but never make them. I’m weird that way.

My husband had band practice last night, but the drummer wasn’t there. Since they wanted to set up their in-ear monitors, that wasn’t a big deal, but they did want to so some playing, so they could practice singing.

So I banged on a hi-hat, following a click. I managed to give myself a blister on my middle finger from the drum stick so I think I’ll leave the drumming to the drummer.

Today I’ll make cinnamon apple cake and I’ll try a new recipe for sheet pan chicken fajitas. I like the idea of prepping everything and then letting it cook. Then I can go wonder off and do something else.

Hope to make progress with my own Room of Doom (I love that name) today. We made one step, then had to buy more stuff, made another step, etc. I think we have everything, just have to get rid of the stuff we don’t need. If we’re lucky, we might even hang some stuff on the walls.

All the shops in Luzern (the city, not the canton) are closed today because it’s St. Leodegar’s day. Because it’s only the city, I often forget about it, and only noticed it yesterday because I went shopping in Luzern. Fortunately I’m not in Luzern so I could go to the store this morning and get cream cheese, sauerkraut, sliced turkey and slice cheese, to go on the sourdough from the bakery. I know it should be rye, but I want sourdough.

Maybe I should go start on the cake, since the cream cheese and butter should be soft enough.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 89 and partly N.O.S. for the day. For those askin’ what’s up with the higher temps, well, this is second Summer for those of us who live in the southern USofA. Today’s agenda includes the bakin’ of the turkey boob and the makin’ of a trial turkey day feast. We shall sup upon turkey boob, dressin’ (had a small pan in da freezer, so thaw and cook), gravy (cause it ain’t a tday feast without the gravy), those flat green beans which are called both Eyetalian green beans and Kentucky Wonders (we like to name our beans down here), squish casserole, and a pee-kahn pie (I cheated. This is a frozen sto’ bought one. Don’t Judge!). The other big item is mowage. It must needs be done and we have chances of rain this next week so today is the day. I see this as enough to keep me outta trouble and off the streets for the day.

Nellie the pics are gorgeous! Glad you had a good time on the hike.

Everyone else, since I did not post again after my first post yestiddy, I had lots to read so retention is minimal right now. Thus, yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Hey, that’s what I was gonna say!! :stuck_out_tongue:

For me, mountainous areas are a one or two day thing, then I’m done, but I wouldn’t mind one or two days in your pictures! Followed by a trip to the coast, of course.

We’re gonna get a pseudo gasp of heat today thru Tues with temps hovering around the low 80s. Then rainy and cool again. But it’s mostly been cooler, so I can deal.

I get shot later this morning, and when my delivery arrives from Da Jungle, I think I can finish setting up my greenhouse for impending cooler weather. Just hope the extension cord is long enough. I don’t want to have to buy another.

Since my successful poundage dump, I regained about 10# and couldn’t seem to get back on track. Weight Watchers on line was offering 3 months at $10/month and I figured it couldn’t hurt - it’s actually been helpful - I’m a loser again! But I’m still using my other food tracker - it’s interesting to see calories vs. points as the criterion, but they seem to be consistent with each other. And the WW site has an option where you can input your own recipes and it calculates the points for you, which is kinda cool. Lots easier than adding and dividing calories per serving.

It’s also interesting because I did Weight Watchers back in the mid-70s, when the program required you to eat liver twice a week, 4 eggs a week, and fish at least 5 times a week, among other things. I wish I still had the booklets from those days. I did well on the program till I had to switch meetings and I got tired of the whiny women in that group and I quit. At least now I don’t have to mess with meetings, nor do I have to watch any videos if I don’t want to, but I can use the tracking and planning tools. Here’s hoping I can get to my goal at long last!

And on that note, I wish you all a Happy Saturday!!

VanGo, your brownie and ice cream had at least two of the major food groups, so there’s that.

nellie, it’s been getting down into the fifties at night and last weekend, fall visited. It’s been in the upper eighties / lower nineties though for a couple of hours in the afternoon for the last few days. Second summer in the mid-south.

shoe, that was a saying that my granny used to use. Somehow or another, it fits from time to time.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to shevel to go to drop some bills and a birthday card for Dad in the mail and pick up a prescription.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Brown and cream??

I’m showered and dressed. There’s a load of towels in the washer that will soon be in the dryer, because I don’t want to mess with hanging them out today. The critter fountain is clean. The dishwasher has been loaded with yesterday’s accumulation. The little freezer has been emptied and de-iced. I’ve wiped up as much as I can, and I’ve got a fan blowing into it to dry all the surfaces before I put all the food back in. I figure it’ll all keep in the cooler for another hour.

We’ll be heading to the Hollywood VFD shortly so I can get shot. And once I get home and reload the freezer, no idea what I’ll do. I don’t need a plan - I’m retired!!!

Good morning everyone.

The pictures are lovely, nellie. The beautiful autumn colors were out along Chinook Pass too. I really wish I would have stopped to take pictures because the juxtaposition of the bright orange, red and yellow against the green of the evergreens and gray of the rocks was beautiful.

As it turns out, I’ll be doing a bit of hiking of a sort next weekend. An old friend contacted me and asked if I wanted to go chanterelle mushroom hunting. I’m looking forward to it. Since we’ve had some good rains now, we should be able to locate some. I’m just going to have to figure out where we’re going to go. I have a couple of favorite spots, but I’m not sure we can get into the one anymore and the other is bit of a drive from here.

Looking forward to seeing the kids and grandkids today. Hard to believe that Adam is one now and starts daycare on Monday. My daughter was enough to be able to spend a whole year at home with Adam. She’s been working from home for part of that time, but still, I know she’s going to miss having him around. She did the same with Zoe.

I need to shower soon and get ready to go to Target when it opens. We didn’t go out to dinner last night, thus plans for shopping at Target were postponed.

I so envy moms who had lots of time with their newborns. I had to go back to work when my kid was 3 weeks old. FCD was still waiting for his VA allowance to start and I was making a lousy $7-ish an hour and I was out of leave. We were fortunate to find a wonderful home-based daycare where they doted on my baby because she was so young. I know my daughter is bummed that she has to go back to work right after Christmas - maybe she’ll have 6 weeks with Toby, depending on when he decides to show up.

I’ve been boosted. I reloaded my little freezer. And I just finished a bowl of veggie-beef soup. The towels are out of the dryer awaiting foldage. We stopped in the little store where I used to sell my pottery - new ownership, new business plan, very sparse inventory so far. I won’t be dealing with them - too much else going on right now. But we were nosy, so we had to look.

No plans for the rest of today. Sluggage might be in order.

Home from heaving. I walked Gordie, and we saw the neighbor with the standard poodle
Gordie: “I WILL FIGHT THE SHEEP!”
Me: “Dude, don’t be a psycho axe murderer.”

But snyways, I got load in the washer, and it’s time for the pre fotball nap.
