Well, I have been recieving e-mails over the last 1/2 hour, and so have some other dopers, as I can see from the fellow addressees. This is what they say:

Not sure which thread whoever got this from is referring to, and I only recognize a few of the users from their e-mail addresses, but the senders are all from AOL addys. Looks like 29 of us got them. John Corrado, Osip, Catrandom, waterj2 are a few that I can tell.

Someone has put out a bunch of the SDMB members emails
out with a message for people to please cheer us up because we are sad and depressed.
My basic answer was-
Thank you, but I have to tell you, I have gotten about 20 other emails like this tonight, someone has played a horrible joke on you and I and at least 20 other people by putting the email addresses out.
I am not sad or depressed. I don’t know any Sarah.

20 badly-abbreviated messages from teeny-boppers, and 2 “you really should put God in your life” messages.
I think Ay and Dem and I and others have been hit by a mischevious troll.
I’m just trying to figure out- someone I’ve never met IMs me and asks me to cheer up her friend, someone else I’ve never met? Does this happen? Do people do this? If so, the Internet is a lot weirder than I thought it was…
Did all of you who received e-mail post on one thread where you disagreed with one particular poster?
Some other troll did something similiar. What he did was sign us all on to some kind of e-postcard service. He got our names all mixed up. It wasn’t anything bad, just annoying.
Sigh. Well, there are 28 e-mail addresses in the “Sent To” list; I’m trying to figure out who has which e-mail address, but it’s a lot of work to go through threads and constantly hit the “Profile” button.
So far, I’ve identified:

Democritus

Ayesha
I’ve also identified a lot of normal Troll-smashers (or those recently involved in posticuffs with trolls) who aren’t on the list- WallyM7, Coldfire, Byzantine, Diane, MysterEcks, and others.
I’ve checked all the threads that were active in the last five days in which I posted; so far, I’ve found no single thread which includes all of us, nor have I found a single thread in all of the participants were e-mailed.
One of the addresses is for “LovableOne”, who has a grand total of 4 posts to her name (all of them in MPSIMS, and none of them dealing with the usual spate of trolls).
Even weirder- the address the e-mails were sent to are different from the one listed in her profile.
Thank you. A few answered me back, and felt really bad about doing that. I let them know they shouldn’t feel bad. The idiot who used them should feel bad. They were just nice people (well, most of them are) who were trying to help.
The joke is going to be on our little brainless friend. Some of these folks saved the messages they got and are going to complain to aol. Hopefully aol will follow through and and the jokester will lose his/her/its internet service.
Now I know why my son was so against me posting my e mail address, but it seems pretty crummy, to have to protect yourself from someone with nothing better to do than cause trouble. As always, Ayesha, you handled it so much more kindly than I would have been disposed towards doing!
It’s too bad there isn’t a special Cyber-instrument for hanging these little dudes up by their toes when they use people like this.
