When I was a kid, and even into my early 30s, I used to love deviled ham. Loved, loved, loved it. Either Underwood changed the recipe, or my tastes changed, because now I’m always disappointed in it.
Most pizza seems to taste more like cardboard covered with grease and ketchup, rather than pizza. The beef and sausage toppings seem to consist of flavored breadcrumbs rather than meat.
My husband and I used to enjoy Frito chili pies a lot more than we do now. Used to be that we couldn’t get enough of them, now, both of us will only eat half a serving, and that’s PLENTY. Just as well, really.
Fast food burgers are generally made from used up dairy cows, and are flavorless. I’ve found a couple of small diners that actually use good quality beef around my new digs, so that’s where I go. And my husband found a little hot dog stand which is mostly a drive through, but it’s got a quartet of picnic tables in front of it. It only sells hot dogs, burgers, and fries…but they are GOOD dogs and burgers and fries. Well, it sells fountain drinks too.
I used to love McDonald’s Quarter Pounders with cheese. I ate way too many of them growing up, but they were juicy and the cheese was good and they just tasted really good to me. Over the last few years, though, I think they’ve made several changes. The meat is flavorless and dry, the cheese is thin and plasticky, and even the buns don’t taste as good as they used to.
Same thing for Taco Bell burritos. I used to get the TB bean and cheese burrito when I was in college and the cheese and beans were both boring but flavorful (which is the way I like them). Nowadays, though, the beans taste like dishwater and the cheese is horrible. I get my cheap burrito fix at a local place called Taco Bravo now–still nothing to rave about, but for cheap burritos they’re pretty good.
Because it’s an anagram of cunt art.
Chile rellenos. I have yet in tucson to find the perfect one i picture in my mind. Outside with a nice crunchy layer but some chew on the inside, good cheese and a chile that carries a punch to it. Most have soft batter layers without the crunch i like.
And wings ordered anywhere but back in buffalo. Even the wife agrees after going back there a couple times.
