Ooh, that takes me right back to September 1979 at good ol’ Camp Coleman and our last Girl Scout excursion of the season. For reasons they really didn’t explain to us right off the bat, the counselors rounded all of us up and had us move to the dining hall for the night. Prepare for possible bad weather, they told us, and remember that you’re big girls and you’re not afraid of a little rain.
A little rain. Yeah. What they failed to mention was that this mofo was bearing down on coastal Alabama, due to make landfall in the wee hours of the morning. When the winds really began to pick up and big limbs started hitting the roof, that’s when they told us what we were in for. It was a long, scary night but we all rode it out fine. They really should have given us a special badge for the occasion, though.
All excellent people, I’m sure. My ex’s mother’s birthday is September 20, and my current boss’s birthday is September 4. At my last job there were three of us with the same birthday!
September 21 is also one of the few specific dates to be mentioned in a song: Earth, Wind, and Fire’s “September.”
No birthdays in September for our family. Between my MIL and her twin sister, there are 6 grandchildren: 5 out of the six were born in May. The sole exception was our daughter, who was born in June. Our son was due in June, but he came three weeks early. Best Memorial Day Ever.
Good news on the weight loss front. I have now lost 91 pounds. That’s 9 pounds away from 100. I can’t wait to get there.
You posted this at 5:26pm Central. Now, according to Google, it’s 404 miles from my town to yours. I need more than 4 minutes notice, unless you have a secret teleporter…
I decided not to pursue it right now. By next weekend I might be changing my mind again. It’s very stressful! I really thought they would come get him on Saturday. And then Sunday! I told Dad to let them have him if they came by.
That’s how December is for my uncle’s family: my uncle and his wife, their daughter, their daughter’s husband, and three of their grandchildren have December birthdays.
(My cousin and her husband have the same birthday – they were even born in the same year. :))
Home on time today. As soon as I post this, the meatloaf makin’ will commence! Along with smashed N.O.T., some Amish corn, and perhaps a salad. Or cabbage - I haven’t decided.
I’m sure I’ll think of more to post later, but I need to get into the kitchen now. Save my place.
Oh yeah, RRElf - I remember Hurricane Fred. There was also a Hurricane David that year. I only remember because I was taking a meteorology class - the prof’s name was Fred and the TA was David. Or vice-versa. I think I got a B. Doesn’t matter - I have the weather channel.
LiLi Thomas has one large case of teh kyoooooooote!
Annie it’s 3:37 pm EDT right now. Dindin is at 5:30 pm EDT. It’s the dindin we didn’t have last night which is good for me cause all I’m doin’ is heatin’ up poke roast, carrots and N.O.T. and steamin’ some asparagus in the microwave. Oh and cause I’m nice bakin’ up some frozen rolls. I have found they’re better if you thaw and bake 'em first. Rollsicles aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
Today I made up a bunch of hamburgers. Some are for tomorrow’s dindin and the rest have been frozen for later consumption. While I was at it I made two meatloafs (meatloaves?) and froze those for later consumption. I like pullin’ stuff like that out of the freezer to thaw and bake.
Cute pics LiLi! And thanks for the recipe for the Indian shepherd’s pie. I’m going to have to try that… once it’s cool enough to turn the oven on again. Mid-90s and humid here today. UGH. I can has fall?
Meatloaf the first is in the toaster oven. Meatloaf the second is in the freezer. Last four ears of Amish corn are awaiting nuking. N.O.T. -n- onions are cooking up on the stove. Salad will be thrown together eventually. Meanwhile, I have 15 minutes to kill. yay
It’s overcast, but no evidence of rain on weather radar. boo
Here’s hoping the camp got power back - dunno if daughter will call tonight or not. I do know she’s off tomorrow evening, and I expect she’ll call then.
**FCD **is home. Methinks an evening of chilling will ensue.
FCM, I was addressing the OP. I bought my first and second house as an adult.
Frankly, I’m not in any big hurry to go buying another house any time soon.
I’ve spent the day watching slides on a Performance Management Plan/Pilot, along with listening to questions and responses on the methodology involved. Tomorrow, I get spend another half a day with this. We need a yawnie smilie.
I is TAHRED. Somehow, I just become more tired sitting through these types of things.
Well, I should try and do a little something before I go home today.
We had a little tboomer go through. Didn’t last long but cooled things down a bit. A bit as down to the high 80’s.
After it was over I went out to the pool to check the pool and the rain gauge. It showed half an inch of rain. As I was scoopin’ the inevitable pine straw out of the pool, I scooped up  a snake  ! Methinks it was a pygmy rattlesnake cause it was all viscious like. So I killded it with a shovel.
