Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. It’s my Firday!

My friend, who is only 8 years older than me, has appointments for vaccination shots, in the same area as me. I am very happy for her, and this means that 1) the sign up works and 2) I’m getting closer to the front of the line.
We are having a drizzly, with short periods of intense rain, weekend. Nature needs it, so it’s not bothering me much. However, we both need to do some movement. Too much sitting in front of the computer for work. Blech.
Going to said friends for lunch/dinner. Basically hanging out with food. Talking about everything and nothing. Not quite the same as doing the same with a larger crowd, in a public space, but better than staying in the same 4 walls. And we start making plans. We’ve been talking about going to Milano for a long weekend, which might be a possibility in July. Probably will still have fewer tourists than normal.
Oddly enough, after a year of being isolated at home, I really want to go to Islay and get away from people. Really need a change of scenery, and I’m not sure I’m ready to be with crowds, vaccinations or not.
Got some time to think about it.
Happy Saturday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and maybe mostly N.O.S. for the day. No big plans for the day at all. I might do a plunge in the cee-mint pond this afternoon just to say I’ve done so. After all, it is May 1st and thus the commencement of pool season. Haven’t really thought about what to do for sup, but since shoe mentioned it, I might just don appropriate bein’ about the public attire and go purchase a rotissed chikin and some sides. That is an entirely possible plan.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all! Happy May Day! Dance around a flag pole.
Another night of semi-decent sleep. Several wakes from FCD movement, but I fell back to sleep quickly, so I’m pretty well rested. Which is good - much physical labor on the agenda today.
And May 1 begins with temps in the mid-40s! What the ever-lovin’ heck is that about?? I had to fire up the pellet stove this morning to take the chill out of the air. Dammit. That means the basement will be chilly also - must dress accordingly before starting to work. And it’s only supposed to be mid-60s today (80s tomorrow… sheesh.)
I’ve got a big yarn order coming - daughter requested shades of green for the new babby afghan (did I mention this already?) and I ordered half a dozen skeins for that the other day. Then I saw some other yarns on sale and, well, I’ll be busy. There was a shade of dark red that caught my eye, so I’m going to make myself a new afghan when I find a pattern I like.
Whine warning!! FCD complains about pain, but he won’t take his pain meds regularly. I swear, for such an intelligent man, he can be such a dummy sometimes! I’m starting to feel like a broken record. What really kills me - I heard him talking to his mom on the phone about her shoulder surgery recovery, telling her to stay on top of the pain with her meds. Yeah, great advice. < deep cleansing breath >
OK. Happy thoughts… despite the gawd-awful wind yesterday, I don’t see any trees down in our yard. Yay for solid roots!
Happy Saturday!
Had a FCM sort of night, up at 3am and 5am until finally rising for good about 7am. Todays agenda: 9am-coach soccer; 10:30am-referee soccer; 1:30pm-coach soccer; 3:00pm-referee soccer; 5pm-return home and collapse.
At least it looks like a nice day for it, N.O.S. and heading to 81F. Need to pick up some Gatorade before the first game–think I’ll be needing it…
Everyone have a good Sattiday now.
That’s ironic and kinda hilarious.
At least, I guess, you know your “broken record” is getting through to him .. even if he does just pass it onward without heeding the advice himself.
I got {checks To-Do list} some stuff done yesterday. Mostly piddly low-hanging fruit, if I’m being honest … there’s a Big Administrative Federal Gummint task (not taxes) that I’m putting off like a champ.
I have a few hours before work today, and could perhaps accomplish one or two more things … though really, I just want to sit quietly and look out the window at the birdies visiting my suet feeder.
I live in Ohio.
In 2019 my son and I spent a week in Ontario in a cabin on a small lake. Loved it. Couldn’t go last year, and can’t go this year, due to the border being closed.
Our 23 year old daughter recently got a job near Anderson, SC. So this June we are staying in a house on Lake Hartwell for a week, located just a couple minutes from where she lives.
Showered and dressed for basement work - I suppose I could venture into public like this, but it’s not a good look for, well, anyone. FCD got up and was going to shower, but instead I drugged him and he’s back in bed. I wish he’d call his doctor about what’s going on, but that’s another nag.
I’ve cleaned the critter fountain, and checked and cleaned the old pump which had stopped working. As in the past, letting it sit and dry out completely seems to persuade it to work again, so I don’t need to buy a backup pump just yet. Yay.
I also had a 'nanner - before they all go way overripe. This one was borderline. So now I guess I can head downstairs and start doing what I need to do. I’m going to start in the corner nearest the laundry room and work my way around. I think it’s the most logical plan of attack without being overwhelming. I need to get the mower and cart out of the garden shed and down to the basement door for ease of hauling stuff up to the other shed and the shop.
So quit distracting me, people! I have work to do!!!
Welcome aboard crafty! I hope that you enjoy your time in the south this summer.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of jeans ready for the dryer and fixing to do KP. Other than getting groceries this afternoon and opening / putting away the Chewy and Jungle packages, not much is slated for the day.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Potatoes are shredded and cooking, bacon is in the oven, eggs are standing by, and there’s a fresh pot of joe.
Lunch break!!
I moved 3 carts full of stuff, then sprayed the poison ivy that was a potential threat to the RoxStar. And to me. I hate that stuff!!!
When break is over, I’ll head back downstairs and start taking down shelving and removing as much cove base as I can reach. I need to get a bucket of mud to patch all the holes from shelves and such. Plus 2 of the fluorescent light fixtures are coming loose, so I need to tend to them. We’ll see how much I get done before I just give up.
Passports should arrive today, if the USPS notification is correct. Woohoo!!
Cool and cloudy here, which is OK, but I was hoping for warm and sunny because I’m cleaning floors today. Some rooms in my apartment have “luxury vinyl” floors (an oxymoron if ever there were one), and I found they look a lot more like real wood if I use a glossy floor polish on them, but it has to be scrubbed off and replaced every 6 months or so. It’d dry faster on a warm day. Oh, well.
I’ll also head back to the gym. Way too much fun planned!
Dice’s comments reminded me that I could go to a restaurant now if I wanted. Huh. Don’t wanna.
Have you tried hiding 'em in a treat? Sorry, I know you must feel like bonking him on the head…which would require more pain meds. .
Sounds like banana bread is in your immediate future.
MetalMouse, sounds like an exhausting day. Are the parents pretty nice when you ref? I knew refs during my teaching career, and it always sounded like angry parents were the worst of the job.
crafty, that’s a gorgeous house!
Ended up in the mezz most of the morning. I had to do address corrections on a bunch of Arhaus orders. It drove me to Madness. 2nd load of laundry is done, chicken for tacos is marinating, nap time before hockey. Which I could go see in person now that I’m vaccinated. Except pandemic tickets cost the GDP of Albania.
You misspelled " and go drink Scotch."
The idea of this just tickles me so~I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed the cee-mint pond tales until now. They were what lured me to the MMP initially and coaxed me to stay and we all know the rest of the story. Swampy and his cee-mint pond was my first internetz imaginary friend, just when I needed it most. The rest is history. The weirdest thing is I don’t even like getting into a pool-haven’t for decades~go figure. Some day I do wanna sit by Swampy’s pond tho and sip drinks he whips up and listen to his tales. Then I wanna jump (with da bear, of course) in a convertible and go up the road and descend on FairyChatEstates. Heaven!~better than a cruise! Way better than a cruise! It’s a land cruise!
Sounds like what I’m doing, except no birdie feeder, just listening to traffic whizzing around two blocks away~those folks are getting things done~while kitties wander by to be admired and I sip coffee, eat animal crackers for breakfast and enjoy the breeze from the open bay windows. The newly-freed-from-winter-garages muscle cars are zoom-zooming around, cruising for chicks I imagine. Maybe they’re all looking for rotisserie chicken, that kind of chick.
No head bonks. Boo hates the idea of head bonks. Hiding them in a treat idea has merit though. That or bring him a long, tall Long Island ice tea every 3 hours…
Quick note–girls lost 2-6 to a really good team, refereeing went well, leaving for my 12U Boys game in about 10 minutes (restroom break). Will talk about refereeing later, looks like somebody picked up the 3pm game for me. Lunch was a mug of Pepsi and two bananas, which should hold me until dinner.
I’m at Kennywood, in line for my second ride on the Jackrabbit. The Jackrabbit is 101 years old and is the last remaining coaster with a double-dip drop (or whatever the proper term is).
Tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, and green beans are in the ground. Lettuce and cucumbers are in the box on the back deck. I’m covered in dirt and having a beer.
We took our bikes down to the local cafe for breakfast. The owner asked after Mrs Magill. The ride back was slow, but it is uphill. I think the excursion blew her energy reserves for the day, but that’s why we have teenagers. Now I’m the one whose laundry does itself.
Shower time.
Just finished taking down the corner bead and remnants of sheet rock from the soffit that we had to tear into when we had plumbing issues a couple of years back. So now it’s ready to be re-sheetrocked and painted. We talked about hiring someone to do it, but it’s such a small job, I can’t imagine it being worth anyone’s time. Plus I know I can do it. I don’t like doing sheetrock, but I know how.
FCD is having chips and salsa, and considering the time, I won’t be making supper. We’ll just forage or something. So I’m thinking I’m done for the day. Chillage shall ensue, unless something else has to be done.
Looks like in our county, the Jehovah’s Witnesses have resorted to mail instead of knocking on doors.
I guess I should be impressed that it’s hand-written on notebook paper instead of mass-printed. I will say, I prefer this approach to strangers on my doorstep - it’s easier to get rid of.
Is that devilish of me?
The utility sink is pretty grungy. It’s been grungy since I bought this place at the end of 2003. A couple of years ago, the hot water faucet stopped working. It’s too tight back there for me to replace the fixture, but no biggie. The utility sink is basically just a place for the washer to empty into. The Missus discovered a leak. I checked it out this morning, and it’s coming from where the hot water pipe connects to the faucet. I ordered a new utility sink w/‘high-rise’ faucet, and it should be here by Monday the 10th.
Here’s the thing: The plastic (PEX?) pipe comes out of the floor, and goes up to a faucet servicing the washing machine. Need to turn off the water? There it is. Only, there’s a T junction in it, with another pipe connecting to the hot water spigot of the sink. There’s no way to shut the water off to the sink. Also, it looks like a ‘plug’ connection; not a screw connection. So I have a call in to a local plumber.
