Wow, thanks, dan, though I think you might have me confused with someone else:
I think my favorite thing about this board is actually meeting some of the people.
I’m gonna talk for a bit, so if you’re just here for some glib-ness, etc, skip on down to the next post (hopefully there will be a next post.)
When I first thought about meeting some people I knew fomr online, I was wary. Who wouldn’t be, the only time you ever hear about online meetings is when they go horribly bad. My first meeting was in a jazz-kinda club in Columbus, OH. I met idiotboy and saw his band jam some really good ska. A few months later, I met a small group in Michigan. I’ve been to Chicago a few times and Spiffled and Flint and am planning on heading out to Cali this month.
See, I move around a lot. I’ve moved, essentially, three times since March 2000 and it’s nice to be able to stay in touch with a large group of people consistantly. Sure, I stay in touch with many friends nationwide, but I certainly don’t have the interaction, the rapport, that I have here. I don’t know if that plays into my like for the board and it’s visitors, or if it’s just the board itself, the banter, exchange of ideas and everything else, but I know I like it. Some Dopers are more dear to me than others. One or two in particular mean very much to me, and that never would have happened through the randomness of meeting in person, but it did happen after meeting here.
Anyhoo, I’ve lost my train of thought, which seems to happen a lot these days. 'Course, today is a special day, for I’ve publicly spoken out, somewhat gently, but contrary to the moderation, or specifically, a particular instance of such, of this board. Such is life. Thanks for reading, sorry for rambling.
To a certain special someone, I still wish you all the best.
