HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOGBUTLER!!!
Everything’s good today. Nat slept from one to… well, he’s just woken up again. Intermittent wakings. It’s great. Wait, he’s gone back to sleep. I guess we’re not interesting.
We’re doing the bicycling, walking, pacifier things. I’ll ask the midwife about the drops on Tuesday. Actually, if he’s only crying inconsolably for a couple of hours a night, that’s not too bad, considering.
And when Mr. Lissar was at Costco he got me a box of skor bars to prevent chocolate deprivation. I don’t know if you’ve got them in the states. They’re almond toffee. They’re yummy.
Anyone got any instant veg recipes that can be prepared with one hand and are shelf-stable?
gt, the party was great, thanks for asking. The dumplings turned out weird for some reason - I think I overcooked them, the wrapper skins were not the kind I was used to - but the noodles were fine. It was a pretty early night - people seemed tired for some reason.
I told That Guy about the Mr Inappropriate saga. I tried not to sound like it was some kind of cloaked way of telling him “See, some people actually have BALLS!” . . . but I think that’s how he took it anyway.
My attitude toward joining the Y has improved greatly. I made it clear that I wouldn’t be working out with hubby and friends and he understood that. He’s in much better shape than I am and I’d slow him down anyway.
The dress looks pretty Haze and it’s my favorite color! I love red and the many shades of red.
It’s rainy wet and gray here again. I tell you, I sure am ready for spring and sunshine. I’ve lived here in the Pacific Northwest since I was six years old and even I am sick of the weather we’ve had lately. It doesn’t usually bother me too much, but now I really could do with some blue skys and that big shiny thing in the sky giving us a little light.
Li-Li, I used to rub both my kids tummies when they were gassy. I also would lie them down on their tummies across my legs and rub their backs. Both worked like a charm.
I have several errands to run today so I need to get myself cleaned up so I can take care of them.
Up and bed is striped and sheets are in the washer. No idea what I am going to do today. I could try to start planning my wedding in August and our quick jaunt to Vegas in the spring to do the legal thing. But I lack the girly gene and don’t really know what I want to do and the wedding websites scare me. A lot.
I have a little bit of work work to do today as well and I need to go buy a new notebook for work. Yes they provide paper and legal pads but I actully like a nicer looking book for my notes.
I may also swing buy Home Depot while I am out and pick out some tile for my little bathroom re-model I am trying to do. My bonus this year is going to be pitiful but I will buy me a new vanity, tile and shower head for the bathroom
Love the Korean dress, Haze! I’d love to see a picture of the whole thing. The color is just scrumptious, though, and so flattering to your coloring! Sorry the party wasn’t too exciting, but even decadent youth can get tired occasionally, I guess.
Are we all having fun today? I’m just so excited I can hardly stand it. I was up till the wee hours last night finishing up Snooty Old Lady, and today I get the thrillsville of listening to congressional [del]drivel[/del] blathering. Oh well, it’s a living.
Rusty apparently is feeling enough better that he’s forgotten to act pathetic. Thank heavens! That stoopid dog is such a good actor we seriously thought he was dying or would need surgery or something. He is definitely one of a kind. Whew!
Speaking of the Y, Taters, I understand your reluctance. My natural inclination is to do absolutely nothing exercise-wise. However, My new knee complains when I go too long without giving it some serious exercise. Which is good; it makes me exercise even in spite of my natural sluggishness because, ultimately, exercising is less painful than my knee complaining. So although today I may be too busy with this congressional [del]drivel[/del] blathering, tomorrow a good session on the elliptical is definitely in the cards.
And with that, it’s back to the salt mines. And there’s probably some laundry on the schedule, too. Can you tell how excited I am about my life today?
Mama Tigs, the funny thing is even my husband admitted I looked like I had pretty much stayed the same weight and that I really don’t eat much. I do practice portion control and keep in mind what I’m eating. Do I occassionally overdo it with bad stuff? You bet! But, then I get right back on track and watch what I’m doing again. It’s the lack of exercise that has caused my weight gain, and the truth is, I’m not really into exercise.
It bores me and frankly, I’m still trying to decide how I’m supposed to be home by five thirty, go to the Y for two or more hours and cook dinner for everyone. See, something is going to have to give, and I’m thinking it’s going to be dinner.
My husband was trying to convince me to have one my girlfriends join with me. He doesn’t get that I am uncomfortable exercising with others. He finds that extremely strange. If I have to do it, I’d rather do it on my own. It’s a big step for me joining the Y anyway. Usually, I use the treadmill here or walk and run around the neighborhood. (Well, when I used exercise on a regular basis).
Once I am into exercising on a regular basis, I’ll feel guilty if I miss a day. I’ll feel restless if I miss a day. But usually happens is this: hubby gets tired of fending for dinner himself, hubby gets tired of the fact that my exercising is taking priority over other things like chores around the house, etc. So, I start backing off on the exercise, and then pretty soon I quit because I become frustrated with hubby’s attitude. It’s a vicious circle. I’m hoping it’ll be different this time, but I’m not counting on it.
Ugh, enough about that! I’m going and hopefully I’ll lose lbs, firm up, and shape up. I’d like to NOT be embarrassed to be seen in a bathing suit or shorts.
I’ve been sick with a crappy cold for a couple days now and I’m freaking tired of it. A latte sounded good and hubby said that he would take me out to get one as long as we could make a couple other stops. I actually left the house for an hour and a half. Grocery shopping will wait until Tuesday more than likely.
I did get to stop at Michael’s quick, as I wanted to get some black glitter for a project I’m working on. I also picked up three “stacks” of scrapbook paper that were on clearance. Normal price was $43.97 and I paid $4.40 cents for all of them together. Plus my glitter and the exit fee was less than $8. Made my day.
Hubby got some good deals on HD DVD’s and Legos so he was happy too.
Now to go start laundry and lay on the couch some more.
Forgot to mention - I bought me some goodies on line yesterday. I got a nice, deep lasagna pan, an oval 6 quart crock pot, the pour shield for my Kitchen Aid mixer, and the DVDs of Godspell and Yellowbeard. And if you’ve never seen Yellowbeard, you should. Because I said so.
I’m thinking that during my errand running today I’ll purchase some workout clothes for myself. My sweats are in sorry, sorry shape. They turned into “painting” pants. I should probably get a sports bra or something too, because…um, well the girls ain’t exactly small. Rigorous activity such as running cause them to well…bounce somewhat painfully.
Toffee and almonds and chocolate are a nutrition powerhouse.
Making dumplings takes absolutely forever. When I was in college I once procrastinated about studying for an exam by making dumplings from scratch. With the skins rolled out individually. It took almost seven hours.
Okay, now I’m being paranoid and worried because the baby’s been sleeping on and off all day. What I should be is relieved and happy. I’m just neurotic. When he’s awake he seems fine, and he’s still eating lots. So shut up, paranoia.
Oh, lord. It’s snowing again. We’ve gotten three feet of snow since Thursday. I like snow, but this is a little ridiculous.
Thank you to whomever recommended Operating Instructions, by Anne Lamott. I’ve been reading and re-reading it. I’ve read Bird by Bird and Travelling Mercies, but I hadn’t read this one before.
HRH’s new sleeping bags arrived today! w00t!!! I really didn’t apply too much forethought originally when I only ordered one, which made washing it a real chore - wash first thing in the morning, hang out on the line and hope to Og it dried in time! Not a problem in summer, but come winter, drying time is much longer. So I ordered a couple more - this one and this one. Not cheap, but well worth it, especially seeing as how I got her the 18-36 month size now (HRH is close to (if not over) 25lb now, and on the verge of walking). The second one I linked to has a travel feature, namely a double-ended zip in the front and a rear vent, so I can put the 5-point harness from the stroller/pram or the car seat on her without taking her out of the bag! I think it will come in very handy at the end of the year when we go home to Australia!
McUne, your craftiness makes me feel really inadequate!!!
Dangit! I’ve never even heard of Skors before and now I want one!!!
It’s a good thing I had dinner already or I would be really hunting for chawklit! My good friend came over to visit, so I made spicy mac ‘n’ cheese with garlic bread for dinner, which filled us up nicely!
ETA: LiLi, little babies are supposed to eat and sleep and eat and sleep. So long as he is waking up regularly to feed, just relax!!!
Thanks for the dress compliments everyone. Stupid brother brought the kimchii but not the camera. (No1, no one makes their own kimchii nowadays. Making kimchii is even more a pain in the ass than making dumplings!)
I’m contemplating ramen for brunch. With leftover kimchii. Traditional hangover breakfast. (I’m not hungover, but whatever. :p)
Oh, I knew you were joking, but I get definsive about it. I do like making kimchii with my relatives - in Korea all the women of the family get together some random winter day and make piles and piles of kimchii, and that evening you have pork and new kimchii for dinner - yum!
I left the beer outside last night and it’s frozen solid. Good grief. Not going anywhere today.
ETA: I made this for dessert last night and it was a huge hit: Berry Cobbler (I used mixed frozen berries rather than just blackberries.)
Haze when I read the title of the recipe, I knew it was one of Ree’s! That is in my to make pile someday. Glad to hear it’s good. Also, I got a catalog in the mail the other day, and seen this cookbook and thought of you. Ramen Cookbook
