This day in History - MMP

Work is dumb today. I did move a mountain of crap off my desk which felt good and I have had several surreal conversations with high up personnel people which has left me confused to say the least.

Off to another great afternoon of meetings!

Toodles

Emma

gt, I think we have a volunteer for an MMP OP!

I’m hoping he invites the rest of us to the party, though.
**
IvoryTowerDenizen**, I haven’t decided on a nick for you yet. I’m still choosing among the options. Any favorites?

If that’s for me, I’m a she!

I thought I was Soapy? What are my other choices? I could be a damsal in distress in my tower… (it’s been a rough start to the semester!).

She may be slippery, but her nick has stuck. Yep, she’s Soapy all right!

I too had to do lots of work today, which I consider grossly unfair. One part of that involved listening to one of our big wigs droning on for an hour non-sensically about whatever came into his head. My manager and I smiled and nodded through the meeting and after agreed that it was a complete waste of our time (but unfortunately something we have to do).

Just had two pancakes (unfortunately without any sweet additions - damn you weight watchers!). Does that mean I’ll be giving stuff up for lent? Does it fuck.

Ooops, sorry!! :smack:

I didn’t realize I was reading that badly. :o

I like the damsel motif. I’ll keep pondering.

Is that a question or a statement? :stuck_out_tongue:

Professor Rapunzel. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hrmph! I’ve been gone all day and nobody missed me. :frowning:

::glares specifically towards Israel::

Whew - youse folkses have been wordy! Plus I kept getting interrupted, so it took me this long to get caught up.

I got to witness a touching moment this afternoon. Bernie was standing at the end of the hall and the cat came and rubbed against Bernie’s neck! Then Bernie got all bouncy like she wanted to play, and the cat ran back down the hall to the bedroom. It was touching while it lasted.

House is all open - it was 75 whole degrees when I got home! Not an early spring tho - it’s supposed to reach all of 39 for a high on Sunday. Stoopit weather! But I’ll take any day I can open the house.

Nothing else exciting. Chickie stir-fry on rice for supper - I’ve got the rice steaming and in a few, I’ll slice up the chickie tits and rummage in the freezer for the veggies. Plus I have some extra mushrooms, so they’ll be tossed in. Yum.

Glad ta see ya, kai! Don’t be a stranger!!

**BooFae ** - I love the new cabinetry!! Very attractive!

**Puggy ** - I’ll be emailing you soon about my upcoming trip south - we have to do lunch or dinner one of the days I’m in Orlando. It’s a moral imperative!!! If **swampy ** truly loved us, he’d take a day off and come down to Orlando himself. And treat.

Home again. It’s nice weather for a change, although I wish the earthquakes would stop. (They’re short, hard jolts - not fun at all.) Work was better today or I’m saner, pick one. I finally got my house key back and gave the neck scarf to my friend. She loved it. I’m grateful to be able to use my front door again.

I need to go drop the laundry off and go to the bank. Then I’ll think about knitting more on my sweater. I have about 10 inches to finish by Thursday. Yeah, that’ll happen. I’m still trying to decide if I want to even finish the class. I should at least go, even if I don’t finish the sweater.

Well, I started trying to catch up today. Didn’t make it all the way through the MMP though. So hugs to those who need them and Yay! and Boo! to others as appropriate.

FCM, KeithT’s cat who died almost a year ago was a Bengal. They are SOOOOOOOO soft. And she liked cuddling under the blankets with us while we slept. Well, with Keith. She’d sit up patiently waiting for him to go to bed, then climb in with him. Eventually I was good enough to sleep with, but really she preferred him. She was a teeny Bengal though - only ~7 lbs. We think she must have been the runt of her litter. But anyway, YAY for spotted kitties!

A slightly less insane day here today. But still crazier than I’d like. Hopefully it’ll get better soon. Maybe. For now I have to go make din-din. Stuffed peppers tonight. Yum!

The optometrist told me this morning that my prescription has changed dramatically! She kept saying that she couldn’t believe how long I’d gone with the old prescription, or how I could even see with them on. I had been getting headaches from time to time, but had no idea that they might be connected to my eyeglasses. Apparently they were. And then she dilated my eyes and did the check on them (I also got the puffed air check). New glasses have been picked out and are being made; I should have them in about 4 days, hopefully. And ouch, glasses are expensive!!!

So, with the dilated eyes and all, I decided not to go in to work after all. By the time I got out of the doctor’s office, it was nearly 11 am and I probably wouldn’t have gotten in to work until 1 pm, due to buses that only run once an hour during non-rush hour. I did get a nice nap this afternoon.

Voting here is next Tuesday–hopefully it will still be meaningful.

Soapy, you’ll be happy to know next Monday is currently open. You can tell us anything you like about Western NY. It doesn’t have to be long. We’ve been known to start with as little as a very short sentence.

I’m home after the world’s longest day. We had a major problem with a teeny-tiny part of the main system I’m responsible for. It took all day to fix, test, move into production and verify that it was working correctly post-move. Plus I get to go in early tomorrow to assign further verification tasks. Woo hoo. :frowning:

But now I’m off to celebrate National Pancake Day at church. They’re raising funds for a mission trip (to Jawja, I think) during spring break.

This should distract me some from the long day, I hope.

Back later.

GT

Oh yippee. More snow.

'scuse me whilst I bang my head against this wall

Raining here. Blah. I cleaned out my jewelry box today–have never done that (I don’t wear a lot of jewelry). Now it’s all tidy and I feel righteous.
That scarf I was knitting off the other day? It got screwed up, so I unraveled the entire thing and am doing another one. This one is already much better–no mistakes so far, and it’s narrower which I like.

Will somebody please translate/transform the following sentence into something nice and appropriate to say to TVMan…

I am sick and tired of hearing about ALL of your exes all of the time.

I don’t feel worthy! How can I live up to the standard set by you veteran mumpers? I would be honored to try though…

Just mentioned something about boobs and half the MMPers won’t even notice the rest of the OP.

**Soapy ** - standards?? STANDARDS?!? Have you been reading the MMP long?? The only standard is that someone needs to start a thread by Monday morning, and MMP needs to appear in the thread title. Anything beyond that is gravy!

Ok, I’ll return the favor. Myself, I would do this:

TVMan: “I ever tell you about the time Desiree gave me the longest and best hummer of my life? It’s got a funny ending–wait for it!”

You (being me): say nothing. Go absolutely still–literally freeze for about 15 seconds. Then turn to TVMan, look him right in the eyes, and ask this,“What is the reason for this? I do not see the need to relate this type of stuff to me; I must ask you to stop.”
If said in a calm CALM, reasonable voice, with dignity and direct eye contact HELD throughout, it should shut him up for good.

It has worked for me. Or you could try saying “I beg your pardon” in such tones that freeze ink–it’s your call.

Crying, ranting, yelling are not going to work. Step outside yourself for a bit (be sure to step back inside when you’re done) and enact the outraged, but haughty and superior lady that you are. He should crap his pants.
