You haven’t been paying much attention lately, have you?
Well, it seems to me that an absolutely stubborn approach to moderation is pretty much SOP around here anymore such that “an inability to admit that you’re wrong” would be a desirable trait.
What a crock of shit. You haven’t explained squat–and you know it.
Porn, penises, and dildos–that shit is threatening.
Ick, poopy poopy, ick ICK!
TYM is too big of a puss to own up to his hangups and clear-cut moderating mistake. Which is bad enough, but he’s also got to be a dick about it in this thread, as others have noted.
Which is also bad enough, but this sad excuse for a mod can’t even get the condescension and contumely wrong! Instead of peforming with fluency and wit, he sounds like nothing more than a petulant bitch.
I–TOLD–YOU–I--WAS–RIGHT.
And really, Skip, grow some balls, be a meta-mod, and throw this trash out. Everyone knows that he’s not going to make it.
On the contrary. Part of what has surprised me about this episode is that This Year’s Model is being so obstinate when he’s so clearly wrong - I’m used to this place having more thoughtful moderators who are willing to reconsider their actions. I have my doubts that even This Year’s Model thinks he’s made the right decision, since he certainly hasn’t explained it well. Contrast this with, for instance, samclem’s willingness to reopen the logarithm thread in GQ. But like sand through an hourglass, so are the moderators of the SDMB, and I guess the new crop either ain’t ripe yet or just plain needs to be tossed back. (Take three metaphors; mix briskly; bake at 350 degrees for ten minutes or until golden brown.)
Meh. The Google ads were plenty of reason for me not to resubscribe. This just makes the decision a bit easier.
I don’t think so.
However, it’s entirely possible that my judgement is being clouded by this thread coupled with C K Dexter’s recent fuck up and I’m being unfair to the moderation here as a whole. Maybe.
Now the thread’s been disappeared and the OP banned. No surprise given the content of the OP’s contributions to that thread.
It was already “disappeared” when I replied to you more than 3 hours ago.
Thanks for the update though.
OMG, I thought that you were referring to me and I almost shat myself.
Well, I am–kinda, sorta.
I can see TYM’s point, sort of a “meh, life’s too short to deal with this, lock it down” in a shoot-from-the-hip sort of way.
But I also will say that I was surprised to see that an entire thread was locked just because of one inappropriate non sequitur. In the past, my experience is that the mod simply edits out the link, and then issues a “Do not do this again” warning to the perp. So the brush-off of an entire thread was kinda surprising.
I’d chalk it all up to impatience, myself. We all have shoot-from-the-hip moments, so I see no need for a "Jackbooted Nazi Mods!"pileon here. Cut the noob some slack, eh?
Question: Since a number of people seemed to find the subject matter interesting, non sequiturs about dildo rental aside, is there any reason why Chaoticbear shouldn’t open up another thread on it?
excellent point.
I don’t even visit that forum, and wouldn’t bother w/ a thread on that subject, so I really don’t care on a specific level, but I would be curious about the answer to the question DDG poses here.
Well, I had planned on it, just out of retaliation, but I realized that I don’t really have anything more to discuss on the matter, until I get my movies from GreenCine. If someone else wants to start one, I’ll read it, though.
At this time, that would be an extremely bad idea. If you wish to open one to discuss your experiences with the company later on, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
OK, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking when I should have been enjoying watching the Buffalos kick ass.
The thread is open.
Geeze, just when I’m deciding I don’t like you as a moderator, you go and do something insightful and rational. Now I don’t know what to think.
And, on further review, I should have simply broken the link instead of removing it. Eleusis, if you want to post the link again in broken form, that’s fine.
Thank you.
(Not an “I’m kissing your ass” smiley, just an “I don’t mean that sarcastically” smiley.)
Thumbs up for a good decision, TYM.
