You know, they just have to hate their lives. Like that guy on Animal Planet, who does “World’s Funniest Animals” - I bet he goes home every night after taping and weeps upon seeing the wreckage that is his career. To come to LA with such hopes and dreams only to end up as backdrop to a series of video clips of dogs fighting hoses and kittens while telling the lamest jokes ever written.

And then tonight I turn on the new “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and see the new guy who replaced Bob Saget in the unknown past (I really don’t keep up with this). He looked like a man relieved to be on a show with enough budgetary power to actually purchase some good clips - though it didn’t improve the idiotic jokes and his incompetent delivery. He had that sort of “deer in the headlights” look you get with these sort of TV hosts… check it out.

Bob Saget… is that man a glutton for punishment or what? You think he had whip marks up and down his back from his sessions with Madame X? To go in week after week, and do what he did for AFHV for years is one of the most stunningly public displays of masochism we’ve ever been privy to. I mean, he did this for what - 6 years? 7? I have caught 1(!) good joke come out of that mans mouth but unfortunately it was on one of the late-night TV shows and not on AFHV.

Would this be a career you want for your children? Discuss.

You know, you’re right. There is a similarity in the demeanor of these video clip guys and most game show hosts. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them did go Ray Coombs on us… :frowning:

I think when Bob Saget was on AFHV, he thought it was wonderful. I think he thought he was wonderful, and perhaps still does. He was one of the creators of the show; they didn’t just hire him. Also, Philadelphia put him on a huge pedestal. He can’t be their only celebrity, but circa 1990, they sure acted like he was.
