I saw the title, saw the poster and said to myself, “Could it be THE Eve?” Glad to see you’ve returned!
Theatre is live on stage. Theater is a movie.
For some reason I read this as “thought I would touch balls and say hello”. Naturally I clicked on it.
I’m doing well, Zebra, thanks for asking. Vince and I are still living in south Florida and we have two sons. How are you?
Followed Vix from Live Journal.
It’s very good to see your name, Eve. Long time!
Welcome back, Eve! Count me as another who has missed your unique wit and class. I hope you’ll grace these boards for a long time before you whisk away in a cloud of glamour and charm, leaving us to speak of you in half-mournful, half-reverential tones once more.
Far be it for me to miss Old Home Week. Hello, Eve!
Eve!
what a treat to see you back! BTW I still remember that time that OxyMoron, GrandfatherTrout, you, and I had tea at the Algonquin as one of the classiest experiences of my life. (Looking at the photo, I wish I’d dressed up a bit more.)
Yay!
Was your cravat at the cleaners that day? I hate it when that happens.
I still love the Algonquin, though am disappointed they got new furniture–now it looks like a hotel lobby, and not like great-aunt Syl’s parlor! I am taking this week off to do research at Lincoln Center on my next book, and will be meeting friends before/after the library for brunch/drinks at the Algonquin.
Now that Gotham Book Mart is gone, the Algonquin is my last “if they close this joint I am leaving New York!” place.
Greetings Eve. I’m a new lurker/poster here. I’m looking forward to reading your bon mots.
Wow, Eve! Doubt you’d remember me but I sure as heckfire remember you. Good to see your name again!
Just coming out of the woodwork as well to say hey, Eve, nice to see you again.
Now I disappear for another 3-4 years.
Very nice! I took my girlfriend to the Algonquin for brunch recently. I hadn’t been back there since you and I met for brunch there years ago, although I can’t say I noticed the new furniture.
Eve, back in my occasional lurkerdom, I read a thread here which made me laugh so hard, and so unexpectedly that I very nearly required the Heimlich maneuver. This is still discussed in my household, as the reason why I am not supposed to eat in front of the computer. You were the creator of that thread, as I recall it concerned a neighbor’s tacky holiday ornamentation.
Once I joined, I was sad to see that you were no longer an active Doper, so though we’ve not met officially, let me join the chorus of “it’s so good to see you!”
I too am lucky enough to have met you at the Algonquin - a treasured memory! I just recently unpacked my books and found a place of honor for yours. They really class up the collection:cool: Good to see you around, even if just now and then.
Uh-oh. [Off to dig up my copy of Joe Miller’s Book of Jests and my 78 of Cohen on the Telephone]
No pressure, darling. Just be brilliant. ![]()
Holy cow! How’d I miss this thread?
Welcome back!
Hi Eve! I heard you’d come out of the woodwork, thought it would be fun to say hi. I still remember when you gave me the dating advice to wear a lotus flower in a library and look hopeful. That in and of itself didn’t work, but I am dating a girl with a library science degree, so you should take credit anyway.
How did you like Australia? I’m presently in Port Douglas (went on the Great Barrier Reef today, actually) and I’ve enjoyed it immensely.
