Threads that asked a question that never got answered

I don’t even remember enough specifics to search for that godawful exercise in futility from a year or so back about 14 something-or-others, but I do remember it went on for pages and, as far as I know, never got answered.

What was that?

What are some others like it?

Far as I know that never got answered. It’s one of the great mysteries of the 'Dope.

It never did get answered and I don’t think the OP posts here anymore. Most likely something was lost in the repeating when the OP posted the question originally and we never saw the real puzzle anyway.

14 k of g in a f p d?

I posted the answer to that ages ago, but I’ve forgotten what it was. Try searching… :wink:

I posted a thread once about a bumper sticker I kept seeing that looked like a “Power of Pride” one with the American flag background, but instead of saying “Power of Pride,” it said “Pope for Rider.”

Got no answers. The only thing that comes up in a Google search for that phrase is my post. Still have no idea what Pope for Rider means.

I’m nearly certain (95%) that I posted at least once to that “14 k of g in a f p d” thing, but in trying to find it in the 30 pages of my most recent threads, I wasn’t able to. It has to be older then where my most recent threads are (2008-forward).

There was a similar one of those “equations” (or whatever they’re called) that went something like

7 = s on a f p p (probably had other letters in it)

and I never did learn the answer to that either. But I don’t remember a thread devoted exclusively to that. It may have even been my post in that “14 k” thread.

I would suspect that we could get all sorts of “0 Response” threads but that’s not in the spirit of this inquiry. We need something that went on for pages and never reached a satisfactory conclusion.

Links would be great. That way we can go back and relive the agony of not knowing something, even if it’s trivial and a total waste of time.

Success! I had to trick the search by getting only the threads with 50 replies or better.

14 k of g in a f p d was started 11-29-2006, 03:14 PM by mittu and went for 9 pages, accumulating 443 Replies and 45,952 Views before being closed 01-31-2007 08:51 PM by SkipMagic.

Enjoy the nostalgia if you must.

That thread is still an open, suppurating wound for some of us. Thanks ever so much. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ever so glad to help out.

I had to test my memory to be sure that thread was in The truly great threads in SDMB history and it is, starting with post #26

This one. It would appear that the question of whether there are similar threads still bugs me. :slight_smile:

I remember a thread where we were supposed to figure out the significance of the way the U.S. states were listed - why they were listed in a certain order. I don’t think that was ever answered.

7 = s on a f p p = sides on a fifty pence piece.

By Jove, I think that was presented (wherever it was) as a likely answer. And I recall it making sense. Thanks for that weight off my mind.

3 = L in T L A

3 letters in three-letter acronyms, I presume?

And williamweigand, thanks for reminding me of that thread that bugged me for so long. I think the states list died a death before all the states were listed.

I had a thread once about a poster a high school teacher of mine had. It featured George Washington as depicted on the dollar bill. Underneath his eyebrow was rainbow. Along the bottom was written something along the lines of “It’s a tough job.”

WTF does that mean?
