Tiger Direct's overall reliability

How reputable and reliable is Tiger Direct. I am looking to order a motherboard from them. Normally I would order from Newegg, but they don’t have the one I need. Are there other dealers I can check, as well?

I’ve never had anything less than stellar service from TG. Not as fast with shipping, but I’ve never had a package take too long or get lost, and they also have some of the lowest prices around.

I just bought an external HD from Tiger Direct through Amazon.com
(Listing was on Amazon, sold and shipped from TD)
Anyway, they shipped before the promised, item arrived in excellent condition.
No complaints, I would use them again.

It’s been a while, but a few years ago I used to order stuff from them all the time and was quited pleased. (I’m not displeased with them; my buying habits have just gone in different directions.)

Why I deal with Tiger - by if6was9…

Several years ago I built my own computer. I bought most of the stuff from Tiger, including the motherboard and CPU. I got the case/power supply from another internet dealer. Nothing against them, but it arrived damaged. Only slightly. Must have been dropped. On closer inspection AFTER… it was out of square.

Anyways, I put it all together and turned on the power for the first time. WAM! A pop, a lightning flash of light and nothing. Fried. Every. Component. This other company’s PS fried everything, including all the stuff from Tiger too. I called Tiger to find out my options. They said they’d replace it all! No questions asked. Just some tedious paperwork and a two week wait to verify that it was indeed fried.

I have ordered only a few things from them, but have so far always been satisfied.

I ordered an E-machine as a Christmas gift for a friend & she’s had several years of good service from it.

I find their shipping to be pretty high.

They are fairly good. NewEgg is arguably better, but for the added service you pay just a bit more. I can’t think of any reputable company selling lower than Tiger.

I’ve ordered two monitors, one pre-built PC, several DIMMs, a PSU and several other items from Tiger, and have always been pleased.

Their website is pretty damn ugly, tho.

FWIW, I bought a couple of cheapo 1U servers from TigerDirect a couple of years ago. Both of them had fans and power supplies die within a year, though it’s probably due to the bargain-basement OEM more than TD.

Still, a pain in the ass.

One of the machines got cannibalized for parts, and the other has a replacement power supply and is now happily running in a 2U slot with a couple of 90mm fans blowing through the holes we drilled in the top of the case.

I meant to add that I’ll never buy a pre-built private label system from them again, but if there’s name-brand part I want and they want, say, 20% or more less than Newegg, I’ll think about it.

I buy components from them all the time. I ordered my monitor online and it was delivered in great time, no problems with it either.

In fact they have a retail location not far from where I workand I go there a lot too.

I only go with Tiger when they really thrash NewEgg on price. They know that NewEgg is their biggest competition, so they’ve really been working on better customer service. Unfortunately, this equates to putting you back on their targetted spam list every time you order there – I ordered a video card there and have been hearing about video card upgrades for almost a year now. If I just bought a video card, why would I want a new one less than a year later? They should be trying to sell me RAM, or a monitor, or games. :smack:

I’ve found them to be better and cheaper than Tiger or Newegg.
