Time To Dismember (Rants of September){OLD}

It got worse, I’m afraid. She told the girl she was a spoiled brat and it was a shame her mother didn’t hit her because she deserved to be hit and if she’d spoken that way to her mother, she would get the shit slapped out of her. I think I may have to report it to our therapy center. I’m not sure what they can do about verbal abuse, especially because I don’t know who it was, but if it were my kid being spoken to that way, I’d want to know.

I think if it were my kid, I would have given her a piece of my mind. But I’m bad at comebacks so a piece of my mind would probably have just been a horrified look and a “Honey, come here and stay away from that awful lady.”

Heard through the grapevine today that my co-worker has given notice. She’s worked here only nine months, and despite the fact that she barely spoke to anyone in that time (despite friendly overtures), and the constant absences, and going missing for hours at a time, I was beginning to believe she would stay. Now I will once again be doing two jobs for the price of one while they start searching for the next Young Person Who Thinks of This Place as a Stepping Stone. I still haven’t been told this by the co-worker in question, or by any official channel, which is good because I have to feel some fucking things before I can be gracious.

On a somewhat related note, I think it’s interesting that my work stress manifests as a painful tightness in the throat.

When I discovered cologne I overcompensated. I knew that people complimented me on the scent but I didn’t know how much to apply. Eventually someone told me I used too much. I figured out that all it took was one squirt and that was enough. I think at that age it can just be a lack of experience.

(Though as you point out, sometimes it’s covering up something else.)

I worked for CVS ages ago and it was bad back then. I can’t imagine it’s any better now. You could never get anyone on the phone because there were six lines ringing constantly including four that had to be answered by the second ring… and only two people answering the phones.

More bitching about the new Sony TV.

There was a software update. It made things worse. Now neither the Logitech remote nor the Sony remote work to adjust the sound. I have to use the soundbar remote. And sometimes the TV sound and soundbar sound are on at the same time. I’ve managed to fix this a couple of times only to have it break again. And sometimes the HMDI 4 connection appears correctly as the Chromecast input, and sometimes it appears next to the HDMI 1 input with some random description.

Boo, Sony. Watching TV has become a tech nightmare.

I have a similar problem when I end up at the hospital. UNC Healthcare has my lactose intolerance on record (along with my allergy to penicillin and sulfa drugs). So when it comes time for me to order a meal if milk was used in the preparation process they won’t let me have it. No puddings, pancakes, waffles, or any number of other items. I carry lactaid with me, but of course they won’t let me take it, or even let it be given to me (probably at $5 a tablet).

This person is in her late 20’s, so I’d think she’d be over that phase. I did find myself wondering if she has Covid ot something; she doesn’t usually use that much perfume.

If it were smoke, the smell would likely be gone (one of the contractors who is redoing our bathroom smokes and uses some kind of scent, probably to cover it up, but the smell cleared out of the house with an overnight airing. He also didn’t sit in an upholstered chair while he was at the house.

I did another round of cleaning the chair today. It’s better, but we’ll see how it smells in the morning. Ugh.

@Spice_Weasel , I’d be inclined to report that to the therapy center as well. With any luck, they can warn the mother, because if that girl is around the other woman a lot, she’s going to absorb those awful messages.

Don’t they teach “walk facing traffic” anymore?

On my daily walks, I’d estimate 90% of the younger (under 30 or 40?) are walking on the right-hand side of the road (no sidewalk). Considering the curves and hills, at some point someone will get smooshed.

Relatedly, I used to be just about the fastest (non-race) walker I knew (long legs and a mother who was death on ‘dawdling’). Now I keep getting passed by children (well, probably 20-30 year-olds).

What the hell, DHL?

If I am awaiting a package sent UPS, FedEx, or USPS, I can watch tracking and see my order moving purposefully across the country.

But DHL? They absolutely suck. We’ve had two items recently sent DHL and it’s almost like they are going out of their way to piss us off. Starting from Mableton, Georgia, they apparently walked north to Stow, Ohio. At that point I should have driven 3 hours to Stow and picked it up myself. Package sat in Stow for 3 days, then went back to Georgia. Stupid fucks!

Once DHL reached our town they gave it to the post office who delivered it this morning. In our experience DHL sucks at what they do. Are they amazingly cheap or what?

There are two DHL services. DHL Express and DHL e-Commerce. Express is relatively fast and delivers directly. The e-Commerce is bargain basement cheap, and is what hands off to USPS at the end. It’s trash.

Whoever sent your items was using the cheapest method they could, and you suffered for it.

My gf actually thought she’d chosen an expedited delivery. Why would they ship from Georgia to Ohio, wait three days, then send back to Georgia?

We had another similar disaster with DHL a few weeks ago. In the future, if I see DHL is handling shipping, I will look elsewhere.

My sympathies. I’ve always thought that Sony was overpriced electronics and avoided them. In the past, I’ve stuck with Sharp (had my last Sharp TV for 15 years and gave it away in working condition), but my latest TV purchase was a 48" LG, which has given me few problems. Updates go smoothly and both the LG remote and the Xfinity remote work just fine with it. The sound bar syncs up just fine, also.

My complaint for the day is that the fucking thug mobs that raid and loot stores have now driven Target to close many of their outlets due to revenue losses. Too bad they can’t lock down the store with the thieves inside and then gas them. What, too harsh?

We bought a big one several years ago when we had a small windfall - 4K UHD. It looks beautiful. Lots of pretty pictures. But there is a lot about it that is just obnoxious and unnecessarily complicated. And I could never get the 4K to work for my PS4 Pro, which was really the whole reason I got it.

Not sure I’d buy the same brand again. But maybe they’re all a pain, IDK.

Our previous set was an LG. Shoulda gone with them again.

QFT.

What genius was responsible for this packaging design?

Google Photos

The wax paper wrapper for the stick of unsalted butter is printed in red, but on the the outer package the predominant color is blue. It’s the opposite for the salted butter.

I would probably tolerate being on hold more if every ten seconds some obnoxious recorded voice didn’t announce: OUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE ASSISTING OTHER CUSTOMERS! PLEASE STAY ON THE LINE…

No fucking shit you guys I know how hold works, just lemme hear the damned music.

As the kids say, I literally cannot with this today.

And please, let the music be audible and not corrupted so badly we can’t tolerate listening to it. I am positive that several companies deliberately choose to play poor recordings to get us to hang up.
