My cable provider is AT&T Uverse but apparently they actually use DirecTV. My channel guide has been showing CBS as Not Available. The weird thing is that my DVR keeps trying to record shows on that channel.
Yep. AT&T owns DirecTV and U-Verse. After doing some investigation, I found out that our local CBS station in Raleigh is owned by Nexstar. Nexstar has pulled all their channels away from DirecTV as they are trying to negotiate (much) higher rates.
I’m not sure how U-Verse works, but if its contract works the same way our DirecTV satellite one does, they still have to provide you with a (somewhat) equivalent local channel if your true local is involved in one of these disputes. For us, they have provided a CBS channel which actually originates from Goldsboro, NC. It’s only in standard def, but until this dispute is resolved, that’s the alternative. Check your channel guide to see if you get something similar and change your recordings over to that channel until this is over.
Here’s a link you can use that will provide you with more info on what’s happening with this dispute. Be sure to read the whole thing - you may be due a (small) discount as a result of the problem.
Today I’ve seen all these news stories and posts about flooding in Las Vegas and a mudfest at Burning Man. I guess no matter where you live now, you better be prepared for fires, high winds, flooding, drought, and any other extreme weather condition you can think of.
True; either way we weren’t planning on being outdoors much.
But I was also there to visit my wife’s parents who live an hour and a half outside of the city, and the rain/flooding/mud made driving pretty treacherous. Not fun.
Fortunately there hasn’t been anything on CBS during the past two months that I’ve been interested in watching (and since I have a subscription to Paramount+ I can watch most stuff there), and I don’t watch sports so I haven’t missed anything. I hadn’t thought about the possibility of getting a discount, so thank you for the link. It turns out that I might be eligible for $10 off my bill.
I’m fine, thanks for asking. I needed to pick up some cash, so I went to my usual ATM. When I returned to my car, there was an SUV parked next to it. A guy in a hoodie and facemask stepped up to me and said “Everything you just pulled out,” and showed me the pistol he had pointing at my torso. I gave him my money, he thanked me and got into the SUV on the passenger side. His accomplice then drove away (apparently not caring that I was able to note his license plate number).
I called 911 and waited a few minutes for a police officer to arrive, then I gave her my statement. She told me that there had been a rash of ATM stickups along that street that evening, and my information would be added to the case file. Then I was on my way.
Nah, it was pretty anticlimactic for a random encounter with the underworld. My current set of life’s complications and annoyances is occupying my attention to the point that this makes hardly a blip, emotionally speaking. See the workplace griping thread for more information on that.
