First, you were saying it was okay to joke about the war. Then you were saying you weren’t joking about it but making fun of OTHER people’s attitudes (where you live) with the betting on lives thing. Now you’re saying you don’t have to explain your “humor” and citing more humor.
Do you not see the difference in the sort of “humor” you’re now citing in the “Will War Start Tonight” thread versus the “Let’s have fun with the Iraq war” thread where the ONLY thing you say in the OP is that you want to bet on how many American soldiers die?

I see mostly banter about what people are going to watch other than the war. I see a couple of parody rhymes, but nothing to the effect of hauling of and placing bets on how many people are going to die. I don’t see a single “camel-jockey” or “raghead” joke. I see some speculation, but that’s about it.
I’ll tell you what, Slick. You’re right. You don’t have to explain your humor. Nobody understands it anyway. There are plenty of folks that have earned the privilege of making “morbid humor”, and you ain’t one of 'em. Until you actually get shipped over there and pull a 12-hour watch on a line, you ain’t earned jack. Your taste in “humor” is poor and ill-posted. Have you even so much as picked up a picket sign and protested anything? I doubt it. You are as ill-informed as they get.

No, I saying that it is becoming more common to hear these things. I wasn’t agreeing with them. I was making fun of them, not the soldiers who will die. You seem to be unwilling to accept the fact I wasn’t serious in trying to start a betting pool. Are you taking offensive to the subject or the way I treated the subject? Think of in regard to Swift, eating Irish babies is wrong, but Swift using this idea to make a point is not. Now, what I wrote is no where near the level of Swift, however, my intent was largely the same. Swift was trying to show attitudes toward the Irish were wrong, I was trying to show making the war into a joke or game was wrong. Now, maybe my treatment of the subject was bad but you seem to attack my very use of the subject.

PLEASE show me where you said you were bothered by the attitudes of people who were making a joke out of the war in your town (or wherever it was) when you wrote this OP.
Hate to tell ya, but what it looks like is that you didn’t really realize that a “game” like that wouldn’t fly on the SDMB and now you’re trying to dig yourself out of a hole.

Both. You took it upon yourself to treat the subject in a comical way. I consider the fact that anyone would take casualties lightly an aggregious offense. The fact that you doubled the offense with a monetary wager seriouslly pisses me off.

Golf: Your first post on the issue could’ve been satirical. Your posting where you decreased your target bet by one proved it was not. Every single posting of yours protesting that you did not mean what you posted is a falsehood. That’s really frowned on around here.
