Damn good idea for a thread, by the way. I’m almost tempted to suggest an SDMB compilation-tape-swapping thing - I love making mix tapes.

Lots of these are obscure (esp. British) alt-rock bands but…

Astrid - High in The Morning
Imperial Racing Club - Big Day Out
Johan - Everybody Knows
Aerial - Star of The Show

When the kids were little, I made a tape mix of based on counting:

“One Singular Sensation” from CHORUS LINE
“Tea for Two”
“Three Little Maids” from MIKADO
“I’m Henry the VIIIth I am”… etc

We got a double-hitter with “I am Sixteen going on Seventeen” from SOUND OF MUSIC.

We more or less got from 1 to 20 (with a little cheating). Then I tossed on some extra number songs, like:
“42nd Street”
“45 Minutes from Broadway”
“76 Trombones”
“A Hundred Miles” (If you miss the train I’m on…)

And of course we finished off with “A Hundred Million Miracles” from FLOWER DRUM SONG. Great tape, great fun.

The best of Rush volume 2.
