ToddlerNym is really sick.

Sue, best wishes to you and your little patootie.
I feel so bad when I hear about a sick child, but I’m sure all will be well. You and ToddlerNym are in both my and Mrs. Batty’s thoughts. Keep that chin up.

ER visits are the worst.

Gabriel had a bad case of croup at about 18 months, the doc sent us to the ER, at the ER they thought he had pneumonia, too. Which means IV antibiotics. The IV took forever to put in (they had to call the NICU nurses down to do it, they couldn’t find a vein, it took a total of THIRTY minutes to get the d*mn thing in, with them twisting and slapping and wrapping bands around all sorts of parts of him, with me holding his little body for dear life (he was fighting and screaming like he was certain they were trying to kill him). And then they admitted him, too - no going home. All that and turns out it was just croup (no pneumonia), and not even all that dangerous a case, either (his oxygenation levels never went below 98%, for pete’s sake!). We did the board strapped arm and all that, too. Poor kiddo. Poor yours, too. (We only go to the children’s hospital ER, these days, they have a clue.)

And just last week, pneumonia for real (fortunately caught early). Home all week, feeling miserable, doing okay taking the antibiotics (oral seems to be working fine…), but hating the cough meds (with codeine, which unfortunately does NOT make him sleep… just gives him scary dreams!). He’s better, but it is only through having done this more times than I’d care to that allows me to be even relatively calm.

Hang in there. It sucks, but you sound like you are doing all that can be done.

Oh, baby. :frowning: My eyes well up in sympathy for you. Seriously. I have SO been where you are, with the kid puking every 15 minutes and you haven’t combed your hair for 2 days and not a clean coffee cup in the house.

The Cat Who Walks Alone was hospitalized for a week when she was 2-1/2 for croup, and yeah, I saw the pathetic teeny little hospital gowns and the IV (my god they stuck a NEEDLE in my BABY) and the hospital bed like a tiger’s cage so she couldn’t get out. I couldn’t have done it without MY mother (and dad, too) who, bless them forever, took turns with her, keeping her company. (I was busy upstairs on the Maternity Floor, giving birth to Bonzo. I had the interesting experience of having the pediatrician appear at my postpartum bedside, and instead of telling me Baby #2 was fine, he told me that Baby #1’s cold had gotten much, much worse while I was in Labor & Delivery and that he’d decided to hospitalize her. Geez. I wouldn’t wish THAT on anybody.)

Is there a Grandma or Grandpa available to come over and spell you? Or wash the dishes? Or bring frozen lasagna?

You will get through this, you know. In the year 2015, you will be posting to somebody else’s MPSIMS thread, saying, “Oh, baby, I have SO been where you are…”

Eh, Sue, at least your Better Half knows better than to come breezing in, back from Boston, and start telling YOU all about HIS day, right?
BULLETIN FOR ZENSTER: Are you seriously IRL “right next door”? If so, then RUN, don’t walk, over to her house and take her some kind of casserole she can heat up for supper, big enough that there’s enough leftover for lunch tomorrow.

And be prepared to wash AT LEAST one sink-load of dishes, it’s the honorable thing to do–cups, silverware, plates are the most important. Don’t worry about pots and pans, she can always throw them away and buy more.

And offer to run out to the store for milk or diapers or whatever. There’s a reason God gave you a driver’s license, you know.

I’m not kidding. Off your butt, boy, and git over yonder with some lasagna…

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. We’re off tio the doctor, so this is just a short update.

Zenster and Batty stopped by, right after I got out of the shower (was getting a bit rank). Sammi was occupied by her favorite tv show, so I took the opportunity to throw in a load of laundry, a load of dishes and clean myself up.

They were kind enough to offer their assistance of shopping or cooking, but I declined as she’s still not eating much, and the nanny is coming tonight so I can swing that on my own.

Temperature is gone and liquids are up, but still not great. She’s more miserable, whining a lot and crying now, whereas yesterday she was just laying around and sleeping.

She ate 1/2 of a strawberry and 1/4 english muffin and is drinking a little more, had about 9 oz since 5am.

Husband was great with her until he had to leave yesterday, he even offered to postpone, but I told him to go. He had Lasix on Friday, so I had to nurse him all Friday. He’s been great, calling in flight and multiple times just to check on us.

Gotta run, updates later.

(((Sue & Toddler)))

Sounds like baby is getting better! Just being there for her is doing wonders, I’m sure. My kids get really clingy too, even when they’ve just got regular colds.

Keep us posted on her progress!

I just wanted to add my healing thoughts. No matter what age you are, there’s nothing better for being sick than having mom take care of you. (I mean, I’m in college and ill right now, and I can’t wait to go home on Wednesday so my mommy can take care of me. ;)) I hope the little one is feeling better soon, and that you can get some much-earned rest.

Hugs to Zenster and Batty, too, for checking in on the Duhnym family.

Sue, I hopr the little one is feeling better soon. What everyone said is right…little ones need their mommies and daddies when they’re sick, more so than any medicine. Try not to worry yourself too much, and please take care of yourself.

Just stopping in to see if we had any updates yet on Sammi’s condition.

Zenster and Jack Batty–you guys rock!

Sue–still thinking of you and the baby. I hope everything went well at the doctor’s office.

The child eats!

I don’t know what happened in the last two hours (well maybe, she had the mother of all dirty diapers) but she’s eaten two bowls of chicken noodle soup, six strawberries, a couple of blackberries and a handful of blueberries. YAY!

The doc didn’t have much to say, other than she seemed to be on the road to recovery and that it was probably just a stomach virus.

Thanks for all the support, friends. It’s nice to know you all will comfort me when I’m a basket-case.

SUE – I hope by this time ToddlerNym is feeling fit as a fiddle again. I’ll be thinking of you and her.

Well, sad to say, I had nothing useful to add during the hard part, but I am very glad you’ve got feet on the ground. Go, Sue (and family).

Dear Sue-

Sorry ToddlerNym has been feeling low, and that you have been so worried. I am glad that things are looking better, and I hope your sweetheart is back to her healthy self in no time! Just in case, I am sending prayers and positive, healing thoughts.

Best Hugs,

Cheri

I know. Our infant was in a tiny gown Monday for an operation. (There’s a related thread on MPSIMS about valvuloplasty.) My wife had asked, They make them that small?

I’m happy your wee one is getting better.

Glad to hear she’s getting better Sue. I’v been keeping an eye on the thread and know she hasen’t been very well. Give her a big hug from me, she’s adorable I’v seen the pictures!

I’m glad to hear she is feeling a little better. Those were terrifying days when my daughters were little and got so sick. They usually grow out of it, and I hope ToddlerNym won’t have any more bouts of serious illness after this one.

Outta-frickin’-glory-be-top-o’-the-morning-to-ya-ain’t-life-grand-so-glad-to-hear-it-sight!

Looks like things are coming up roses for toddlernym. What a relief Sue. Best news all day! Glad that hubby will be home to share in the joy.

Well, things are going better.

We were doing our morning cuddle on the couch, she watching Caillou, and me snoozing, and I was jolted to consciousness by her puking on my chest.

She is better tempermentally, and she’s eating like a horse, so I hope it was just an isolated incident.

Maybe just her way of getting back at mommy for that whole needle thing?

Glad to hear she’s doing so much better!

Good luck, Sue. I’m sure glad ToddlerNym is feeling a little better. There sure are some wicked viruses going around this year.

I’m glad your home to take care of her, though. I really feel sorry for the kids and moms who don’t have that luxury.

Mmmm, puke.

Good to hear Sammi’s doing better, Sue. I can’t add any advice, except to echo the “keep the liquids flowing.” comment earlier. But, looks like she’s on the road to Wellville, anyhoo.
