Just for some background, about 12 years ago my grandfather had a heart attack. He had a quadruple bypass operation performed. The doctors proclaimed my grandfather as a ‘miracle man’ because apparently he had only a 10% chance of surviving. Following that, he has had a long string of other ailments, including prostate cancer, which he had overcome. Up until recently, he was quite active for a 78 year old man.
Several days ago, he went to the hospital complaining of chest pains. He had an angiogram performed, and they discovered that the bypass artieries were approximately 70% occluded… They had said the bypass typically holds out for 10-12 years, and ironically its been 12 years to the day since he had his last bypass done.
My grandfather has decided to have another bypass operation done. He would rather take his chances on the operating table than sit in a hospital bed waiting to die. I admire his courage, but I am worried to death that his luck may not hold out a second time. My grandfather was a very major part of my life, and already since last summer I have lost 3 relatives to illness and accidents. At this point I feel paralyzed with fear about what will happen to him…
