In the grand tradition of something major having to go wrong in my life every fucking WEEK, I have a request for y’all.
I just got word today that my grandfather had a heartattack. He’s my mom’s father, and I am VERY VERY close to them. My grandmother has been sick since I was little - cancer, radiation therapy that screwed her systems up, broke her hip, complete kidney failure…and now my grandfather is sick.
He has to have a quadruple bypass sometime in the next 3-4 days. My mother just got off the phone with me…she’s crying. She’s flying up on Sunday to be there…they just got back from overseas. I want to go outside and scream. Just ONCE I want everything to go well for a week. Just one fucking week.
So anyway…any good thoughts, prayers, or anything will be very very welcomed.
Warmest thoughts and sincerest wishes for your grandfather’s speedy recovery. My maternal grandfather was also my favorite and we still miss him terribly nine years on. May yours be around and in good health for many years to come.
In the past year, two people that I considered fixtures in my life have died, and that has shocked me into facing the fact that both my beloved grandfathers won’t be around forever.
Just that thought depresses me, so I’m sure facing an actual medical crisis must be very hard and very scary. I’m thinking about you, Falcon, and I hope your grandfather gets well soon.
My dad just underwent five-way bypass two weeks ago following a (mild) heart attack. He’s doing fine, feels good, long-term prognosis is very good. They can do a lot nowadays.
Best wishes and prayers from Pluto and the Plutinos.
Quadrupal bipass-shmardrupapal bipass.
They do these all the time. It’s like getting your hair cut.
Well maybe not THAT easy… But I was reassurred by a doctor friend of mine about the frequency that these things are done.
I can relate to your worry, I felt the same way you do when my dad went in 6 mos. ago for the same operation. He’s recovered fully and feels better than he has in a long time.
Your grandpa will feel really crappy when he first gets out, but chances are he’ll bounce back before you know it.
And rest assured, I’m sure he’s in very capable hands.
Hugs and prayers to you and your family.
