Too Much White Stuff - a Snowy MMP

A contrast -

The radio is on, broadcasting negative news as usual. But on Facebook, I’m looking at pictures of my friend’s beautiful new baby.

Craft show is packed, bed made, dog walkedand pretty much wrapped up for the evening. I’s tahred!

Got my days and night mixed up. Was sleeping this afternoon so good when the phone woke me. I was not amused. Henceforth the phone shall be off whilst I sleep. To top it off was just someone wanting To chit chat about nothing.

After all that doctors office made about my needing to switch my pills they did not bother to call them in or called them into the wrong place :smack:

I do not like people right how.

Someone who reloads their own ammo.

Someone who has played a little heavier with coins and has a precision scale.

Possibly (depending on how tiny we’re talking) a electronic postal scale that gives weight and not just postage due/applicable.

I could probably ship you something but I don’t know if it would beat skool-opening by much if anything.

And now that I have that out of the way, the motorcycle gathering was wonderful. Terrific cod dinner and getting to see folks I haven’t been able to see much this past year due to irk and rain and stuff. We’re a kinda old-fogie AMA club and fairly sedate and I miss being able to attend all the meetings and stuff. But such are the joys of adulthood.

G’mornin all!!! I suppose I’m first today as it sounds like kopek’s last was real late on his Saturday.

Happy Heathen Day to all us heathens and appropriate denominational greetings to all the rest.

Our cold snap is officially over. It’s 6am, I’m out on the patio enjoying the slowly gathering dawn. The breeze blows, the puffy clouds puff, and I’m warm in my track suit. Soon it’ll be a shorts-and-polo day like all the rest.

Sleepage was good and today promises to be busy. I’m doing our semi-annual refresher training Tue-Thu, so it’s time to hit the books for a couple days.

Time for that second cuppa; the first goes down real quick. SLUUURRRRRP. AHHH!!

I usually have half-and-half in my first cup and otherwise drink it black. I’d experimented for a couple weeks with getting my cheapo espresso machine to steam / froth milk. Abject failure but at least it was messy. Oh well.

After admitting defeat I sulked for a month or two. The other day at BBB for something else I made an impulse buy: a hand aerator. Not this exact brand, but same basic gizmo. Wow. Total success. Zap the milk/cream to hot but not boiling, whiz the magic wand for 20 seconds and you’ve got cups & cups of foamy stuff for cappucinno, etc. With zero mess. I love the First World.

The sky has gotten orange and pink, the second cup is well down. And so to work.

Then why is the radio on?

You control whether somebody backs a cement mixer up to your ear and dumps that garbage in your brain or not. You can be a well-informed and aware citizen without being harangued morning, noon, and night. 5 minutes on something like Google news will give you more info than 5 hours of radio or TV “news”.

The choice is yours and my morale is so much better since I made the choice. Try it; you’ll probably like it.

Butters - Sorry to hear the docs fouled up your scrips. I often sleep in the day due to work. Phone off or in emergency-calls-only mode is 100% my habit. Otherwise no good sleep goes undisturbed.

Another day of early accomplishment. After I fed the critters, I finally got around to cutting up the hunk of chuck roast for beef stew. It was pretty messy, between the beef blood and the flour in the bag that I used to coat the chunks, but I’ve now got a mess o’ beef chunks in the slow cooker with some seasoned broth, a glug of burgundy, and a splash or 3 of worcestershire sauce. Later today, I’ll toss in celery, onions, N.O.T.s and carrots, and it should be amazing by suppertime.

We’re going to see the latest Star Wars flick today. Our closest theater is showing it something like 21 times today, and we plan to hit the first or second showing (9:15 or 10:15 ) after breakfast. Depends on when **FCD **drags his butt out of bed.

My only other chore is wrapping our $10 exchange gifts and our contributions to the White Elephant exchange. Altho having read up on White Elephants, I don’t know that we’re doing it right.

Technically, a white elephant is a gift that comes along with a significant obligation - like giving someone a pet or a yacht or some other “surprise” that is, in fact, an ongoing expense or burden. We’ve been using the term to mean “give someone else some crap you have and no longer want.” I don’t think there’s an official term for that. Regardless, that’ll be Christmas at the inlaws’ house.

**Flyguy **- I’ve had Mumpers to my house, tho not an exclusive Mumpfest. Even those who live relatively close don’t want to come here, since we’re in the Amish boonies and there’s no public transportation this far out. I would gladly host a ribfest, but I know it’ll never happen. That’s fine… I don’t mind… I prefer my [del]loneliness[/del] solitude… (Yes, that was a pity party! :stuck_out_tongue: )

Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 38 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of <snerk> 69! <snerk> and mostly cloudy for the day with rain movin’ in tonight and tomorrow. We shall see. We shall deheathenate, have N.O.L., as in grab a burger somewhere, and not much else. I yanked a frozen beastloaf outta da freezer yestiddy and shall bake it for suppage along with whatever sides I decide upon.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Stay to the very end. Rumor has it the theatre gets very dusty for multiple reasons.

Mooooom, I would fly to BWI and rent a car to drive to your house for a MMP rib fest. Just sayin…

Star Wars isn’t happening today for us. The only seats still available for the 9:15 show were down front. Nope. And we didn’t feel like hanging around an hour for the next showing. So we’ll go after we get back from Ocala.

**WetOne **- To be honest, the ribs aren’t *that *good… But I may attempt a MumpFest some day. We shall see…

ruble, don’t most AMA chapters skew towards middle aged or older?

flyguy, that aerator looks nifty. My espresso pot is a stovetop model, so I usually just heat milk and sometimes take the stick blender to froth it. Not as frothy as the coffee shop, but fine for home.

emily, don’t you just love watching babies and puppies grow on FB? As far as the radio goes, in the house, I tend to tune into an NPR station with a roots format. The news is limited to ~10 minutes an hour.

Mooooom, I might be convinced to hop on I40 for ten hours and change for a Mumper RibFest. I would even offer to bring a side dish. :stuck_out_tongue:

Up, breakfasted, caffeinating and fixing to do cleanup and purtify before getting ready for the sing along/craft fair. The educator for the heathen children asked me if I could bring the kid bag with the basic kid occupiers (we coordinate the craft and lesson for regular services and special events like this one. This one is more free play and original craftwork).

Until then, it looks like I’ll be playing fetch for a while and surfing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I could just buy a set of cheapy scales from the local head shop, I guess. Might be the simplest option, but dammit I hate buying stuff I might not ever need again.

Had an irk Christmas lunch today. Nice food, all paid for including booze. One of the other cleaners got absh… absholOOtly hic plashtered. Impressive going for a lady in her 60s at lunchtime. I was driving, and behaved myself.

Need to finish Christmas shopping. Ugh. Only a few things to get, but they’re the tough people to buy for.

After much drama I did get out of the horspital yesterday. The doc wanted me out, the nurse wanted me in (and truth to tell, in might have been better), but it was clear doc was going to make me feel unwelcome. Out I went. My parents dog decided that I was unwell. When I went out for a bathroom break at 10pm pm or so, she was right across my doorway. While I attended to my business, she got onto the bed. She spent the rest of the night with me. She’d tuck herself completely out of my way, but she was definitely minding me all night. Now she’s off duty, and the Siamese has a rotation.

I suspect I will get nothing of any consequence done this week, and that’s ok. My goal is to start noticing my typos.

The beef stew has gotten onions and celery and a bay leaf added to the beef and broth. Carrots will be next, and N.O.T.s will go in last. Supper, I predict, will be amazing!

We also replaced the drapes in the family room with semi-sheer curtains. We need to obscure Higgs’ view of the road and I didn’t want to close the drapes because it makes it too dark in here. I’m hoping the curtains we got will discourage her insane barking. If not, she’ll be wearing a hood over her eyes. Stoopit dog. :stuck_out_tongue:

**FCD **just left for the convenience center with trash and recycling. I’m about to assume the crochet position, I think. Or I’ll read. Something relaxing.

Yay for escaping the hospital, Sunny! I know I prefer to recuperate at home - it’s much more relaxing. Now do what your doctor says and don’t pick at any scabs!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually not as much as they once did although there does seem a wave pattern to it all. When I first joined 147 years ago it was mostly 50+. Then in the 70s as racing became more common and club teams were out there a lot it got more 20s and 30s. Then it went old farts again and now is going back down slightly. Around here quite a few scooter, sport bike, and other groups have taken advantage of what the AMA offers in organization and all and have become Charter Clubs; I’ve actually helped a few around here get started. It isn’t just the “too old even for HOG” thing it was say 6 years back.

I blame our age issues on the name our founders picked all those years ago ------ Sunset Riders. Now if THAT doesn’t just scream old guys I don’t know what does! :smack:

Blurfage. I have the roomba vacuuming. I shall mop after it’s done. I cleaned out the fridge. I have all the laundry done except the sheets once I change the bed. I may just put the same ones back to avoid having to fold any.

My car is a mess. I may see if the neighbor boy will clean it as I don’t feel like it and I awoke with a sore throat. I cannot be sick.

Hubs has started his trek back from Jawja. He will drive to Ocala and spend the night with his friend. He can avoid any night driving that way.

I ordered a Xmas tree and really wanted to have it up before he gets home but since the tree is to be delivered tomorrow that may not happen. I really don’t care to have a tree but I think he likes it whether he will admit it or not. Plus he paid so I will go along. I got a big one 7 1/2 feet tall as I wanted one taller than him. He is 6’ 6”. Plus I get presents if we have a tree. I want a new car. That’s not gonna happen though. Unless I pay for it. Not happening.

Happy Sunday everyone. Sunny follow Drs orders and get well soon.

I would buy a green Mini Cooper if I were to buy a new car. Hint hint. Anyone want to buy me one?

Butters you are funny. :stuck_out_tongue:

I shall be taking a nap shortly.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had N.O.L., and have achieved nappage. Additionally I have a beastloaf and mac ‘n cheese ready to bake for suppage. Rolls and flytrap’s favorite, succotash, shall accompany. Right now I’m havin’ some popcorn and Diet Poopsie.

Sunny glad you are on the mend and have the appropriate critter care.
