Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 32 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall go visit with Miss Becky early afternoon and then go hit the GC buffet for a late N.O.L./early suppage. Other than that no plans. Makes for a nice day.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Purtification to ensue.
I woke stupid early again - around 4 or so - but I lay in bed reading till nearly 6:30. In the last 90 minutes, I’ve tended to the critters, prepped 3 slabs of ribs - 2 slabs for the smoker and one slab in the oven already. I did the dishes, then I made French toast using up the leftover Eye-talian bread. I sliced the bread thickly then let it sit in the egg mixture to soak up a lot - that makes for a custard-y inside. YUM! Shortly, I’ll hit the shower, then we’ll drag the smoker out and I’ll get ready to do the rest of the ribs.
Other fun times include laundry. I need to change the sheets on our bed, and when I remake it, the electric blanket will go on. I use it to pre-warm the bed before I crawl in - no need to sleep with it on all night. My feet get cold, even in shoes and socks, and I can’t sleep with cold feet. More than you wanted to know, I know…
Happy Saturday. PS: it was 22° when I got up! Stoopit winter.
No, I don’t sleep with shoes on! I gots class, I does!!! But I don’t take off my shoes and socks till I go in to get ready for bed, and within moments, my feets is cold! I have been wearing little shortie socks to bed.
Chore count: I’ve showered and dressed, stripped the bed, hauled the dirty laundry downstairs and sorted it - first load is washing. Then I cleaned the smoker (ooops - I kinda forgot after Thanksgiving…) and took it outside to start warming up. The ribs are on the counter coming to room temp. I also mixed up another batch of the rub I use in the rotisserie and the smoker. And **FCD **and I discussed where his new machine will go. He’ll be getting rid of his radial arm saw, a metal 6-drawer unit and a metal 4-drawer unit.
Pause here to put the ribs in the smoker and swap out the laundry loads. GO ME!
And it’s gotten all the way to 35°F! Bright sun and blue skies! Loverly day!
Up, breakfasted, caffeinating, dishes done, sheets and towels in the wash and trying to get enough ambition to purtify to go to the post office, gas station and dog park. After that, I’ll start the caldo de pollo for supper (that reminds me that I need to stop at the Mexican bakery for a couple of molasses cookies for my friend who will get a couple of quarts of caldo). I need to make a sentiment sheet for customizing greeting cards for tomorrow’s show.
I yelled at the dog at 4:00 Ante Meridian, and she used her telekinetic powers to slam the pocket door on my hand, and rip off the nail of my forefinger. I must be nicer to her.
I have gotten out of bed, several times I’ll have you know, and demonstrated that I can walk to the toilet. I’m having trouble typing, but i can use the toilet. Baby steps…
Actually I think babies learn those skills in the opposite order but we’re still terrifically glad you are on the mend and will continue to send thoughts your way.
Other than that ----- later today is our motorcycle club dinner and tomorrow we’re doing the Cryptmas at Castle Blood. Along with shopping, laundry, some light cleaning that should be heavier but we don’t care that much about it, and the usual joys of adulthood. Monday I am doing a double again. I’ll be glad to get the rest.
Last load is in the washer. I just added chips to the smoker - 3 more hours till the ribs come out. Except for the ribs in the oven - they’re out and cooling. Half will be wrapped to go to Ocala, and half will be supper tonight.
**FCD **cleaned the kitchen sink trap and drain - it was coated in greasy gunk and it drained very slowly. So he de-gunked it and all is good there. Considering it’s been 13 years, it wasn’t all that gunky, so yay!
Megablurf. Horribly overslept this morning, and have all-day blurf.
I have problem for the day: my bees need treating for varroa mite. There are several different treatment options, I tried one of the milder ones back in September, but it barely made a dent in the mite numbers. So, I ordered one of the stronger ones, which is apparently more effective, but can only be effectively used when there are no eggs or baby bees, which means I really should do it in the next few weeks.
So far so good, but the problem is, the smallest package comes in a size to treat 10 hives. I only have one, and I don’t want to have such a crazy amount of leftovers, so I’m going to have to split it down, accurately, into a more reasonable quantity. The pack is 35g of treatment crystals, which is then dissolved in large quantity of syrup.
Where can I get access to sufficiently accurate scales to weigh such tiny quantities out? Finding a friendly local dealer has already been suggested, but, well, I don’t know any round here. The other option suggested was the skool lab, which would be perfect, but it’s closed until Jan 8th, which is a bit late- if it warms up a little, there may be eggs by then.
Forgot what I came to say: they are sending me off with my parents today. No more horspital. THis is fine, because the TV is terrible, and I want my own snacks and stuff. It isn’t so great because I don’t have the fun, lovely, helpful people who have been waiting on me hand and foot. Net it is for the best I think. Sooner out the better.
No tea or herbalist places nearby- at least, not ones that sell loose leaf stuff that I’m aware of. Friend’s husband is a pharmacist though, it could be worth a shot asking him. Good thinking.
We visited Miss Becky pigged out at the [del]hog trough[/del] Golden Corral and are now back in da cave. We took some marinated carrots to Miss Becky. She et 'em right up. She lurves her some marinated carrots. Plus we took a bag of Hershey’s Kisses[sup]TM[/sup] so we’re on the good list.
Just now gettin’ around to today’s 'Dope session after a busy day. Sunny, warm, admin early, lunch out w extended family, a few errands in afternoon.
Stopped off at the local xmas tree lot and got 2 plain wreaths to use as table centerpieces. The ol’ homestead smells right purty as some a y’all might say.
Mulling on dinner. Might be one of those days were I make my wife’s favorite: reservations! Or at least a meal out. Mayhaps Indian?
I was just reminded there’s an Xmas boat parade on the waterway out back tonight. Should be fun. Cool but not cold. Which means dinner better hurry.
The Boy Sprouts have a local tree lot; I drove past earlier & didn’t see any cars, then I realized I didn’t see any trees. :smack: Methinks someone underordered, big time. Doggio, Flyers are hosting the Dallas (Sucks) Stars tonight. I’m going Old School in my #9/Modano.
Spidey - in every sport my two favorite teams are whoever’s playing NY today and whoever’s playing Dallas. Go Phlyers.
The boat parade was a total bust. It was supposed to come down to where we were, then turn around and go back the other way. Per their website we had an ideal viewing location. A couple hundred people had the same idea and we all settled in the waterfront park with camp chairs, tunes, dinner picnics, etc. Lots of kids & dogs. A couple of drones. The usual fixin’s for a 21st Century party.
Only to watch the entire boat parade turn around about 1/2 mile away and disappear into the distance. Damn.
Oh well. Time to come in and have a warm toddy. The air is pleasant, but the breeze got cool after sitting out there for an hour. Had a fine yak with all and sundry, so it wasn’t a total bust.
