too old?

I am shopping for a car, some people (my parents) think that the Mitsubishi Eclipse is for the under thirty group, I really like this car, I am umm mid 40’s. What do you think? Please don’t ask me why I care what my parents think ok, thats another thread.

Nanno Nanno

Why not?

Nowhere does it say who should own what car.

If you like it, buy it.

People gave me a hard time when I bought a brand new suburban, saying only middle aged people with 5 kids that live in the city own them. They also called it a “school bus”, but I didn’t care, I liked it.

If it’s what you want, go for it!

If it’s what you want, then buy it! When your parents object, say, “I’m (mumble) years old, and I’ll do what I damn well please.” I sympathize about the parents–I’m a mid-30s college student, and since I don’t have a home anymore, I stay with my mother over breaks and in the summer. I have to continually remind her that I am an adult, even if I live with my mother.

Tell them you really want the Ferrari but you need them to help pay for it otherwise you just have to settle for the Eclipse.

You are young, full of energy, buy a red fast car, any kind. No grandma car.

Me:4 door saturn, no frills, tape player.

I am, ummm, over 40,and I have a RED Nissan NX (it’s not a real popular model, but I liked it). It’s a sporty, 5-speed stick shift. Forget age. Do what pleases you.

A middle aged person can drive any car, and get away with it. A young person, however, would look a bit silly with a big old Caddy, just like a 70 year old would look out of place in a red Eclipse.

Great…ageism in cars.

If you like it, get it. The only person you have to satisfy is yourself.

Hey! I’m 22, and I drive a red '76 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, and I get nothing but compliments on how cool it is, especially after I’ve just washed and waxed it and it’s all shiny and purty…heh. Anyway, I definitely don’t think I look silly, and it fits my personality perfectly. Plus, when I’m stopped and I rev the engine, the car rocks back and forth…it’s just too cool.

I would think that if one were in their forties, they would be over the whole gotta-fit-in-with-the-crowd thing. Position marketers would love reading the OP!

Buy what you want. Better yet, buy contrary to the advertising. Screw Madison Avenue!

Rebellious posturing brought to you by The Gap TM.

Mishell: The older DeVilles are cool, but have you ever seen a young person in the newer models? Anyway, to each, his own.

Nanno, drive anything you want. If you want to appear younger [not that I believe that model has that effect] then get that model. How about in red? Thatll make you look very social, very young & attractive.
