Too Proud to Die - the Fighting Ignorants

Hey Wizards, meeting of the minds here- do we want another Magic Missile from me for the next day, or perhaps do we want to consider investing in 2 Sleeps (assuming we’re resting for the night)?

Sleep is a more useful group spell I think, but MM is just a classic wizardry spell. Yet, the fact I can only prepare one limits its usefulness. Any suggestions or thoughts? If we can coordinate our spells for maximum efficiency that would be best…

"Based on what we were told I’d expect looters at a minimum but there might be a couple of undead, it’s a good thing we’ve got two priests, hopefully at least one is like by their god enough to deal with that.

I agree that a day of rest will do us some good but we should post two people per watch, possibly one spell caster and one person capable of hand to hand, so that one can watch the crypt and the other can watch for things coming up out of the swamp. If no one objects I’ll take half of the first watch."

“My **light ** spell is not very good, but if you want I can do the other half of the first watch. so i can sleep all night without interruptions jejeje”

I’ll take a night watch so that these pampered wizards can get their full night’s sleep.

City kids.

“Wait? Do I look like a waiter? Fine, I guess it’s a good idea to rest up a bit. I hope the crypt has shinies…”

“. . . and bushes.”

Boy, this night sure is lasting a while. I’d check my watch, but I don’t know what that even means.

Your watch starts when mine and Oredigger’s ends…

Melon taps the sundial on his wrist.

“I think my timepiece is broken.”

The FI pass a slightly uneasy night in the open. Auto’s rations taste really off by now and only the spur of serious hunger makes them even slightly edible. During the course of the night your sleep seems to be haunted by the ghost of a noise not quite below the edge of hearing - sounds of a far-off battle that seem to come through the earth itself.

Day dawns, and the spellcasters look to their muttons…

*Ishtar will keep Magic Missile going as he has no idea if the dead sleep. But the consensus seems to be the dead never sleep. So Let’s see if they can get missiled…

“Alright chums, let’s do this! LEEEEEEEROOY, JEEEEENKIIIINS,” screams Auto as he runs full-blast towards the crypt.

I stop a foot before the mouth of the tomb. “Just kidding! Like I would do anything so rash. Besides, there are no bushes in this tomb most likely…”

“With that said, I’m ready to get a move on. I can’t stand another day of these god-awful rations. I don’t even have chicken! Let’s do the standard formation. Fighter in front, fighter in back, I’ll be in front of the rear fighter. A wizard in front and back. Cleric in the middle. Let’s do this!”

I take my position near the front in case we do meet any undead. I’ll have my holy symbol out to, uh, consecrate the tomb and all that.

Since we are going underground (in the dark), I’ve prepared Light again (instead of Bless) plus 2 Cure Light Wounds.

I take my position, ready to enter the darkness…

“I attack the darkness!”

And off you go.

A cursory search of the ruins soon finds you a largish hole in the ground, with steps leading ominously into the darkness. A nearby stone slab is of the right size and shape to have covered the hole, and even to your inexpert eyes shows signs of having been levered off. Trotman bids you the very best of luck and promises to escort [del]the survivors[/del] you safely back to Kullen once you have completed your mission. The stone steps are in good order and go down a good deal deeper than the daylight can illuminate. Of course, some of you (see the setup thread) do have some mundane light sources if you don’t want to use up the magic ones too soon.

I’m never 100% sure what’s in my knapsack, but I’ll use a torch if I have one. I think I do…

I have 20 torches so I will start with those first and let someone borrow some as well (after a small fee that that will go to support the religious practices of displaced mountain folk of course). I will save the spell until we need it, like reading the fine print of some rune covered door. Or to blind some underground cove monster. Or we run out of torches.

Is it dark down there? Are we likely to be eaten by a grue?

Nah, all grues where eaten by the ghouls.
