Well, let me tell you, whippersnapper, when you reach a certain age, the memory starts to go.
Okay, I’m totally changing my list of what I’m bringing. (Well, what pseud and I are bringing, which is why this list looks a trifle ambitious.)
To wit:
24 1-liter bottles of water (with cooler of ice)
Ketchup and mustard :smack:
Sliced American cheese for the burgers and dogs
Plastic wrap and plastic bags for wrapping leftovers
Chips and salsa
Probably a 12-pack of Diet Dr Pepper (my quaff of choice)
Are you going to be wearing said clown pants, DocCathode? I may have to drive down to GBurg afterall…
clown pants, and the aforementioned terrycloth finery. I do not wear big floppy shoes. A clown on the street needs to be ready to run. I also do not paint my face or wear a big red nose. The make up is part of what makes clowns scary. A red rubber nose is smelly, uncomfortable and hot.
OK, my update is: I will still bring some beverages if people want, but it’s blackberry season here, so I might try to make some dessert with fruit in it, since there’s not a lot of those on the list. I will also bring vegetarian grillables, since I don’t see any of that on the list either, and I don’t eat meat. How does that sound?
Excited to meet you all. I’ll try to bring a book or two for the exchange as well.
Oooo! I gots some books to share! Excellent idea!
Rubystreak, I think that sounds lovely. Mmm…
I can also bring some Boca patties (I didn’t think of it), since I don’t eat red meats either. Thanks for reminding me.
I don’t know why you guys are so down on kimchi. True, I ate more than enough of it while in Busan, but it’s really quite palatable when made correctly.
Damn, now I’m in the mood for some Korean barbecue…
For the veggers, supervenusfreak is making the pasta salad vegetarian. No pepperoni, as originally planned.
Hooray! I can gorge on real food as well as the many dairy desserts! Never has this been more appropriate ;j
It looks like I’ll be going. Wondering if anyone between Richmond, VA and Gettysburg, PA is (please) willing to let me (please) surf their couch (please) Friday night (please). I don’t shed much and I rarely poop on the carpet.
I’d rather not have to make the drive there and back on the same day.
Thinking of bringing ice and fruit.
I wish I could. But, the problem is that you would have to share the couch with my son, who is visiting this month. While I am sure that would hold a certain charm for him, it might be unseemly.
Sorry
Tris
I too have enjoyed kimchee, when it’s vegetarian. I think it’s the smell that gets to people… it’s one of those foods that smells a lot worse than it tastes. Also, kind of an acquired taste anyway.
What times are people planning to be there on Saturday? Mike and I are driving in that morning, so we’ll probably get there in the early afternoon. How late does it usually go? Do people do anything on Sunday? We were definitely going to hit the battlefield attractions, since I have a bit of a fascination with Gettysburg.
Rubystreak, the family and I will probably be arriving about noon or so. We’re spending the night in Baltimore, and hubby’s bringing the kids back for the battlefield tour on Sunday. I doubt I’ll be participating in that, because my energy level’s still kind of in the basement.
I just saw this. I have a gigantic pump-action super soaker, like, the size of a cannon you can hold in your arms. If I bring it, someone’s going to get very, very wet. The time to retract your comment grows short, bwahaha!
I hope we can get a final update from everyone before the weekend… I booked a hotel room, so we’re definitely on. I don’t imagine us getting there before 2pm, considering it’s about 5 hours from my house and Mike and I are not early risers, but we are definitely coming. I’ll make a blackberry dessert, bring some drinks, and a couple of books for the exchange.
We just got reservations for Round Top Campground for the weekend. Gonna make this a mini-vacation instead of a day hop. It’s also very close to the park and has a pool. The Weather Channels says it’s going to be HOT.
I’m not sure if we’re allowed to post their URL, but if anyone is looking, search on Round Top Campground. They also have cabins of various sizes/ammenities. Those of you only searching Hotels can consider this as an alternative. They even have cabins that sleep from 4 to 8.
Boggette, for a minute, I thought we were going to have to change our travel plans and stay in one of those cabins! Unfortunately, the 4-person cabins were already booked for Saturday night (they still have plenty of 6-person cabins, but they’re more expensive).
We’ll be staying at the AmeriSuites at BWI, when hubby gets a federal employee discount. It’s an hour from Gettysburg, granted, but still a lot closer than going home. We also have to go down that way, anyway, to pick up our old car, which we had to leave there when we bought our new one.
Hmm…I’m 99% sure of what I’ll bring as far as a usefull piknik-type item, but does anyone have any further suggestions, say something you think might be needed but that you can’t get in time?
And I have books to unload too…I reread them all too often.
Should be; it’s in its [Darth Cheney]last throes[/Cheney] down here in southern MD.
So if you’re coming to GettysDope and you like raspberries, then in addition to helping yourself to some of my raspberry cobbler, you may want to bring along a few zip-lock bags, because they’ll probably be growing wild along the roadsides up there.
Any last minute would-be attendees in need of a room-enter Hanover, PA as your city of choice. There’s a Hampton, a Holiday Express, and a few Mom and Pop motels in town, putting you only 20 minutes from festivity central.
As always, people with other questions about local entertainment, directions, or who just want a backup can email me for information and/or my cell phone number. Chili cooking will be in progress by tomorrow afternoon, guaranteeing overnight steep in the crock pots.
See y’all on Saturday!
