Corrections to the above, including updates on the size of your posse, and victuals being brought will be garnered from the thread, but if something is missed, holler.

For those who need directions, worry not. The directions page from last year will be posted when we draw closer to the event, and for anyone who would like to purchase something nearby, there are two markets available-one a few blocks, and another a few miles away.

My cell phone number will be provided to anyone who emails to request same: danceswithcats@att.net

Anyone who plans on staying over should make haste to book a room. Email the above addy if you’d like help with that-distance from event, and other good stuff.

What, I don’t get a “+ ?” ?

I have friends!

I may be bringing that writer friend of mine and his lady, but they haven’t made plans that far in advance. He’s the tall, bearded fellow who accompanied me to the original Gettysdope.

CJ

Too bad our '66 Charger is still in pieces! That’d be sweet to bring.

At this point, it looks like I’ll be accompanied by mr. norinew, EtherealFreakOfPinkness and mudgirl.

Just as a bit of an update and some questions:

I’m a bit curious now, I’m definitely going to be attending, but it occurs to me that I have no idea what, exactly, this event is like. I’ve now re-skimmed/read the first page of this, and I’m left with some questions.

I got the impression on the first read that this’ll be at a campground, that does mean we’ll be camping, right? If I show up carrying a tent and y’all have, like, cabins or something I may die of embarassment.

Along the same lines, I take it that this is for the whole weekend, right? Again, if I bring a tent, don’t die of embarassment, and then find that everybody else left during the night, I will probably die of embarassment at my earliest convenience in the morning.

Also, along the same sort of the same lines, what’re the facilities like? Erm, I mean, in terms of cooking at such? It occurs to me that if I bring a big ol’ thing of pasta, and there’s no real way to heat it up, that, well, it’d suck. Nobody wants cold penne with congealed cream sauce.

So, erm, yeah. If there’s a stove-microwave-type-thing, I’ll be happy to bring a bunch of penne ala vodka for the teeming masses. I don’t know how much time I’ll have to cook, or how many people will be there, but depending on the variables I will either be making and bringing a: 1) Huge, freakin’ huge ammount of pasta. 2) Large ammount of pasta 3) A pound or two of pasta.

If there isn’t any way to heat it up, I’d be happy to bring the fixins for a big ol’ salad. In which case, it would probably be easiest to bring a bunch o’ fixing in seperate bags and let people put their own salads together. After all… I like anchovies and feta in mah salads.

Oh, and, sorry if any of these questions have been answered somewhere in this thread and I missed them… also sorry to Robyn if I’ve forgotten anything… she attended the only DopeFest I’ve ever oganized, and told me all about Gettysdope, but I’ve forgotten most of the specifics. I blame the alcohol.

FinnAgain, it’s pretty much an afternoon-long event. Some attendees do stay overnight in the surrounding area, as we will this year (so we can take EtherealFreakOfPinkness, who is homeschooled, on an educational field trip the following day). However, if you choose to show up with a tent and sleeping bag, you can provide entertainment as we point and laugh.

There are grills around the place. There is a pavillion and playground. Technically, alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park. I say “technically” because there’s no real way for the park officials to know if the juice you have in the jug is fermented or not.

You could bring pasta if you had a Crock Pot or something to put it in. There are electrical outlets in the pavillion. Otherwise, salad’s always good. There’s always more food than gets eaten!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

And man, will it be nice to have someone else around this year to take the load offa me…

Jus’ kidding, FinnAgain! They don’t actually laugh at you in front of your back…

It’s only a few blocks away from downtown Gettysburg, and it looks a lot like this:
http://userweb.suscom.net/~sokosfamily/dopefest.htm

Worse comes to worst, FinnAgain, the living room floor of Stately Doors Manor will be available. We won’t mind if you pitch your tent there.

Robin

I’m vaguely looking into getting a hotel room again - have not decided yet. Too early to decide, I think.

And the pictures from the original Gettysdope reminded me of yet another paper item I’ll have to pick up – name tags. Whee.

I’m excited already. The last two have been so much fun.

Don’t worry, jayjay, we’ll still point and laugh at you, too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Awwwwww shucks, that’s amazingly wonderful of you.

I’m definitely considering options, as I’d be looking at a four hour drive. If I can convince my girlfriend to come down with me then I can probably drive one way, and she can drive the other. If not, I’m not sure it’s a great idea for me to drive 8 hours in one day, but we shall see.

Indeed! Although Frank #2 is a Ford guy, he’d still be properly reverent regarding vintage iron.
For those kids who contemplate staying the night, book a room now. Gettysburg is a tourist town and accomodations are quickly filled, including the outlying regions. Anyone staying overnight is welcomed to send an email regarding Friday evening get-together possibilities-many great restaurants are nearby.

Well, it looks as if I’ll be not that far from it this summer, so I’m planning on attending. I don’t know what I’ll bring, though. Might have to give me a little more time on that. I do know of at least one person who will probably come along with me; I’ll be sure to remind him to post next time we talk.

Oh, man, I haven’t cooked for more than three or four people in a long time.

I had lunch with Pandora yesterday, and she hopes to make it this year – as long as her family cooperates by not scheduling the big reunion for that weekend.

Suppose I’d be the person in question, unless plans have seriously changed, in which case I’m more than a little out of the loop…

Yeah, here’s hoping I can get the PTO to be able to attend, but if all goes according to plan, Telperien and I will be there with bells on. Except without the bells, 'cause after 5 1/2 hours of DINGDINGDINGDINGDING, you wouldn’t want to be around either of us when we got there. If I do attend, I shall be making Hammered Chicken. What is Hammered Chicken?, you ask, and unto you, I say: exactly what it sounds like. If the fates favor you, you shall see for yourselves ere long.

Hope I can come…it’ll be good to meet some of you crazy mugs IRL for the first time.

  1. Take chicken out to a friendly local bar-early evening suggested.
  2. Start with a couple of beers, maybe some shooters, later on.
  3. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
  4. After last call, when you and the chicken stagger out the door and crawl into the waiting taxi, you’ll have gotten hammered along with the chicken.

Not legal for Dopers under 21 years of age. Hammered chicken may be habit forming. Always have a designated chicken when partying.

Telperien has also [del]coerced[/del] coaxed me into posting here, because I plan on going too. But there is one very big, very smelly and hairy caveat: I have absolutely NO idea where I will be this summer. I’ve applied to several internships, any one of which could place me just about anywhere in the country, and I don’t know which if any I’ll be doing.

However. If I end up within a few hours’ travel of Gettysburg, PA, rest assured I will be there, and I will have bells on, incessant dinging be damned.
