One thing we need to do this year that we forgot last year: Pass the hat so everyone can kick in a buck toward the park rental fee. It’s not a huge amount of money, but it’s also not dances job to cover it.
While I’m thinking of it, what else goes on at Gettysdope? I mean, besides eating, and meeting lots of Dopers and their families and friends?
It’s what you wish to make of it. The battlefield, ghost tours, other attractions in nearby towns are there for you to enjoy. Gettysdope III is a one day event-other central PA Dopers may be available on days prior to and after the official party. Once you’re past the groundhog, PA has lots to offer.
Yeah, but getting past the groundhog isn’t all that easy. Don’t let anyone tell you Punxatawney Phil is all cute and cuddly; he’ll chew through your ankles if you don’t watch out!
It’s “Punxsutawney”, RT. We Pennsylvanians are sensitive about such things.
I’ve also talked to The 27th Evil and she has indicated an interest in coming.

Aaaaccckkk! I totally missed that two years running! I will definitely be better behaved this year, I promise!
It might be a little early for any of you to respond to this, but I’ll toss it out anyway: as I said in a previous post in this thread, it is our intention to spend the night of the 15th somewhere outside Gettysburg so that EtherealFreakOfPinkness can have a homeschool field trip touring the battleground the next day. However, what I didn’t realize then, is that I will be just slightly over 6 weeks out fomr major [surgery.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=365883&highlight=du odenal) Given this, I don’t think I’m going to be up to touring the battleground with my family. I have several possible options open to me, but wondered if any of the Dopers in the Gettysburg area might be willing to put up with me the better part of the day on the 16th, so my family can still do the tour. Anyone think they might have time/space for me? What if I make puppydog eyes at you?
As you said, it’s early, but the friend I may be travelling with is a Civil War buff who’s written a few short stories about it, including one set at Gettysburg. No promises yet, but we may stay overnight and tour the battlefield on the Sunday. For those of you who remember two years ago, he’s the tall, bearded fellow who used to post under the name HJay for a while.

So, I was repairing links and uploading pictures to my new server, (don’t you just love tossing off cyber cool phrases like that?) and I realized all my pictures from Gettysdope II are gone from cyberspace. I can’t face doing the whole thing over again, but here is a collage I call: The kids of Gettysdope II!
So, everyone enjoy, and this will be one big assed download, about 350K. Cute, though.

I’ve taken the liberty of inviting some of my school friends. They’re a lot of fun and some of them are single.

The who and what list is updated as per posts to date, but there are still a bunch of open items.
Who else is a comin’, and whatcha bringin’?
Well, there might be a little hitch in our plans. My surgery has been moved from May 24th to June 2nd. That gives me nine days less in which to recover enough to come to the 'fest. But I’ll leave my name in, and see how it goes. Also, even if I don’t feel well enough to come, but do feel well enough to stay home with some minimal help,
hubby will still be coming, and bringing mudgirl and EtherealFreakOfPinkness with him.
June 2nd to July 15th is six weeks, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed that that will be enough time.
Well, I’m hoping so, too. Then the next thing is to figure out what in the world they’re going to do with me the next day when they’re touring the battlefield. But we’ll cross that bridge later. First, I’ll just worry about getting there. I had to miss Dope the Halls, so I’m kinda going into Dope withdrawal.
A bump of giddy delight – yesterday was trying to figure out when I’d be going to Wyoming (sic) – it was the second thing I’ve had to schedule for July, and it was nice going over the calendar with my sidekick, and saying, “Well, Saturday the 15th I’ve got a personal thing in Gettysburg…”
Thanks for the bump, twicks. Another event which is worthy of everyone’s consideration is For the Glory, a musical about the Civil War in Gettysburg. The local NPR affiliate has done some pieces on the show, and it sounds like a fine production. For those who would like to make Gettysdope III a weekend event, shows are Fridays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM. If 15 or more Dopers are interested, I can investigate group ticket pricing. Otherwise adults are $40 and $45, and children under 16 are $20.
Broadway without the hassles of NYC!
Thanks, but I’d be uninterested even if it were free.
That’s why Philly has an Avenue Of The Arts.
I’ve got pseudotriton ruber ruber about 75% convinced he should come…
