Too soon to start talk of Gettysdope III?

I’m bringing a gross of clown balloons, and some kind of Russian foods.

what, not whom was the operant question. Oy What to do with you boys.

Hopefully, the foods will not be gross.

Trisk has that covered.

Kimche is yummy!

Ahhh…is THAT why we all cower in the upwind corner of the pavilion when he opens the jar?

I’m coming, and I’m pretty sure (but not positive) that pseudotriton ruber ruber will be riding along with me. I’ll leave it for him to post his own RSVP.

I’m going to be out of town most of the week prior to that, so I’m not going to try to cook – I’ll bring salty snacks of some sort. And soda. I can do soda.

I’ll be there, with my hubby, Mudgirl and EtherealFreakOfPinkness. I was going to bring Crock Pot lasagna, but now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t bring something I can actually eat (carbs disagree strongly with my post-op body). At any rate, it’ll be something main dish-y. Maybe just a great big batch of meatballs in gravy or something.

I’m not going to speak for Airman, because his drill schedule is weird during the summer. But Aaron and I will definitely be there, along with a boatload of local produce and whatever other goodies I can bring.

Robin

I’m bringing potato salad. I’ve got room in my car, for fellow NoVa / DC Dopers.

I may have an issue with the directions, though, since this year I’m driving north, not west.

Now what’s all this about Siege having to bail on us?!?!?!

I just wanted to let you know that I will be using low carb Dreamfield’s Pasta to make the pasta salad. I will be using a sugar free dressing too.

I’m very familiar with Dreamfield’s. Been using it for some time now; I wish they made
lasagna noodles! At any rate, thanks for letting me know that. I haven’t tried any
kind of pasta yet, and it’s best if I try new foods at home, just in case. But if I’m
okay with low-carb pasta, it’ll be good to know that’s what’s in your salad!

I would like to come, if I can get a ride up with someone from the NoVa area.

If so, I’ll bring some flavor of dessert type item, or something made with green chile. I have a lot of it, and I’m still learning to cook with it.

Ben or Trisk, can I catch a ride up with one of you?

Gettysdope directions

From Phila:
PA turnpike westbound to Gettysburg Pike US-15 exit (was I-17, now I-236), take US-15 south. Take ramp right onto York Street, US-30 west. Follow US-30 into the center of town to a circle. Go halfway around the circle, continuing to follow US-30, street name now Chambersburg Street. Go through the first light, and turn left halfway down the block onto Franklin Street, and proceed south. Franklin Street becomes Long Lane at Breckenridge Street, and the park is to your right. We’re in the Lion’s pavilion, which is a block past the brick administration building on your right.

From Pittsburgh:
PA turnpike eastbound to Gettysburg Pike US-15 exit. After that, follow above.

From Washington:
I-495 inner loop to I-270 towards Frederick, MD. Follow US-15 north, into PA. Take exit for PA-134/Taneytown Road towards Gettysburg. At the traffic light where PA-134 crosses US-15 Business/Steinwehr Avenue, the name changes to Washington Street. Proceed north two blocks and turn left on Gettys Street, which will dead end at Long Lane. Turn left and then right opposite Queens Street into the parking area.

Park recon: Several ballfields, playground equipment such as swings, slides, and the like for kidlets. Three pavilions, called Kiwanis, Lions, and Firemen’s. The first two are located closest to Long Lane & Queens Street, with the latter a block North at Long Lane & Gettys Street. I checked out the Firemen’s pavilion (natch) and it contains 10 large picnic tables which should accommodate 6 BPT* with comfort. The other two looked quite similar from the parking area.

For those who wondered about purchasing foodstuffs locally-there is a Kennies supermarket on Middle Street between West and Franklin Streets, less than ¼ mile away. Those folks using the Philly directions will pass a Giant supermarket on US-30 fairly close to US-15.

Any Dopers who would like a backup contact can email for my cell phone number: danceswithcats@att.net

*BPT=butts per table

Consider this confirmation. The Bog, Boggette, and 2 Boglettes will be in attendance. Bog says OK to making his BBQ, too.

Have we decided on a time?

And for those of you looking for something else to do while in Gettysburg, you must see The Electric Map. There’s a fee to see it, but the entire battlefield is presented in miniature, and small lights show you how the battle moves, how the troops are positioned, all as a narator tells you what’s happening on the field. It’s really cool.

For the Philly folks, there is a Wal-Mart on US 30 immediately after you take the ramp off of US 15.

BlueKangaroo and any other DC Dopers looking for rides, feel free to contact me - my address is in my profile. (My car can seat four adults comfortably, five if they’re very good friends.)

Our permit allows us to populate the environs thereabout from 1000 foreward. Normal people show up noonly, but I’m typically early to set up and make sure things are ready.

I have just confirmed with Airman that he does not have to drill in July (sort of; it’s technical and complicated). So he’ll be there, too.

Robin

I will be there, bringing the lazy-man’s contribution of paper plates, plasticware, and cups. And probably name tags. Because name tags are good.

Pens or markers to write on them with make them even better.
