> Top 6 @ 6 Week 11. Your B-52's Faves AND Chuck Berry Results From Week #10.

Polling is closed. Scats (oops, that was rotten; I meant hats) off to the Dopers who responded. Honorable mention goes to Jonathan Chance who was, indeed, heard (and who’s choices were the most obscure…in fact, it’s time for me to go give a re-listen to several songs I either forgot about or never heard before).
As to gex gex’s query from last Saturday: PD’s are an acronym for Program Directors. IMHO, they are the scourge of the radio waves…polluting them with what they and their telemarketing pollsters think is “popular”.

First: Results from The Chuck Berry poll from week #10.
Moderate turnout; nothing shocking. Even though he’s considered the granddaddy they were fairly predictable results. Most of his children were too busy out there playin’ his licks to list their faves, so let’s move along. Now that’s it’s history, we can add it to the pile of[ul]
[li]The Beastie Boys,[/li][li]Jeff Beck,[/li][li]The Band,[/li][li]Beach Boys, [/li][li]Beatles,[]Animals,[]Tori Amos,[]Allman Brothers, and[]Aerosmith. polls[/ul]All right, here are your Beastie Picks Picks:[ul][/li][li]First Place: Memphis Tennessee: With 6 votes. [/li][li]2nd Place: Johnny B. Goode and Maybellene: A 2-Way Tie with 5 votes.[/li][li]3rd Place: Reelin’ & Rockin’ (1 live / 2 unspecified), Rock ‘N Roll Music, Roll Over Beethoven and Sweet Little 16: A 4-Way Tie with 3 votes each.[/li][li]Bringing Up the Rear: Oh Carol, School Days (or is it daze?!?) and You Never Can Tell (Teenage Wedding): Another 3-Way Tie with 2 votes each.[/ul][/li]
Honorable Mentions: (With 1 vote each):[ul][li]Blue Feeling, []Brown Eyed Handsome Man, []Carol, []Havana Moon, []My Ding A Ling (Live), []Nadine and []Promised Land.[/ul] [/li]
Secondly: This weeks poll. As promised, the seventh “B”: The B-52’s. (As alluded to last week, turnout will more than likely be substantial; right up there with The Beatles and Tori Amos. I’ll go so far as to say the only proceeding polls that will garner higher post counts will be Van Morrison, Rolling Stones & Steely Dan). If you feel I’ve passed alphabetically passed over a band say so…if not, next week will feature The Black Crowes (followed by my favorite band: Black Sabbath).
Weekly disclaimer: I’m not at all biased toward today’s contemporary artists, it’s just in most cases their smaller sized discography’s would make selecting 6 favorite tracks a rather difficult or daunting task. Hence: The B-52’s as opposed to Berlin, Ben Folds or Belly

On with the poll. Here are my 6 B-52’s picks:

  1. Channel Z (Sorry Die-hards; it’s the only thing I like from Cosmic Thing that deserves a spot)
  2. Private Idaho
  3. Rock Lobster
  4. Party Out Of Bounds
  5. Planet Claire
  6. Strobe Light (No negatives comments please…I love this song)

Thanking you all in advance

Thank you for doing this. It was fun.
I would point out that “Carol” and “Oh Carol” in the Chuck Berry poll were intended to be the same song, IMHO. The title on my 45 rpm record is “Carol”, but the lyrics are sung “Oh Carol”. So who knows?
It’s neither “School Days” nor “School Daze” but “School Day” (singular). Chuck’s going on tour later this summer, at age 76, so maybe one of us can ask him about “Carol”.

And now to the B-52’s. If I’ve ever heard one of their songs, I’m not aware of it, so I’ll wait until another Old Guy comes up here.

  1. Dirty Back Road the very best
  2. Song for a Future Generation the first song of theirs I heard.
  3. 6060-842 “and I’m waiting for you…”
  4. Dance This Mess Around “I aint no limburger!”
  5. Trism just too groovy
  6. Quiche Lorrainne “Quiche la POODLE! was her name…”
  1. Love Shack
  2. Song for a Future Gneration
  3. Dance This Mess Around
    3.Quiche Lorraine
  4. Planet Claire
  5. Rock Lobster

Hate to post without voting, but i only know two songs :frowning:

but what about bjork? i don’t know what sort of turnout you’d get, so it’s your call, but considering she’s done five solo albums, a soundtrack and many releases with he previous group the sugarcubes, she certainly has the material to select six top tracks from. Then again, i don’t want a bjork poll where i’m the only one who votes, so, as i said, your call.

Since the voting doesn’t seem to be weighted (am I wrong, or does a 6th place vote count as much as a 1st place vote?), in no particular order:

Give me back my man
Quiche Lorraine
Planet Claire
Private Idaho
Rock Lobster
Party out of Bounds

Also, although it didn’t make my list, you are correct about Channel Z being the only worthwhile song on Cosmic Thing.

I’d vote in a Bjork poll, but I think Sugarcubes should definitely be included.

Strobe Light
Private Idaho
Dance This Mess Around
Rock Lobster
Planet Claire
Downtown

and I think I’m going to start including an anti-nomination: Quiche Lorraine.

RocK Lobster
Roam
Strobe Light
Dance This Mess Around
Love Shack
Follow Your Bliss (I just love twangy guitar, for some reason)

52 Girls
Dance This Mess Around
Song For a Future Generation
Girl From Ipanema Goes to Greenland
Wig
Ain’t It a Shame

I should note that I really love Cosmic Thing, but all of it and not any one song in particular.

I’m not going to be able to come up with 6, but I still want to get a couple of votes in:

Channel Z
Private Idaho
Good Stuff (so sue me, it’s a fun song!)
