I am but a response from IT and a button click away from being done (for now) with The Big Thing at work. I’m trying really, really hard not to instant message the guy since I already sent him an email and he’s really good at quick responses. I hate people who send emails and are like, “So, didja see my email? What do you think? TELL ME NOW.”
In the meantime, it’s supposed to be 60F and sunny today. The kids started spring break, overlyboy will likely sleep until at least 10 or 11 and overlygirl slept at a friend’s house (whose parents reside in our COVID bubble and have been vaccinated). So I got to sleep in until 6:30 and the only person I’ve seen yet is my sleepy husband staggering about before a shower.
This is why I’ll never be president - if I’m petrified to click a Big Blue Button, how the heck would I ever be trusted to click a Big Red Button?
Eat hearty before your jab-the only precaution they advise is to not have had another vaccination in the past 14 days. So arrive well-fed and hydrated, so as to to not have any hypotensive wooziness from being under-hydrated. Coffee is a wash as far as hydration, it’s diuretic effect cancels out the ounces of fluid in it, so a big bottle of water aforehand is good. A portable snack to nibble during the mandatory 15 minute wait entertained me.
You won’t need your vaccination records-they will give you a CDC sheaf of info and a vaccination card with the vaccine manufacturer on it, date and lot #, plus if/when you’re due for the 2nd jab. I think all but one of the multitudes of Dopers has reported being given a vaccine card. There, my nursey talk is done. Enjoy getting your vaccine-I did, I was positively giddy and sat in my car afterwards just enjoying the relief and light at the end of the tunnel.
I am typing this in the waiting area after my first jab. I can leave in 8 minutes. This is such a good feeling. All told it’ll be a half hour door to door.
FCD is vaccinated! He said it really hurt - I’m wondering if he tensed. I had tylenol in my purse, so he swallowed a couple of those, and now he’s having lunch.
Stoopid mulch is no longer on sale - I’m going to see what bulk mulch is running around here. And I need to call our car guys - the front end of the truck was vibrating in a disturbing fashion, and FCD determined that it’s not tires. So something mechanical ain’t right. Dammit.
My lunch is assorted remnants of Tuesdays corned beef and veggies. Very tasty. FCD is having a can of smoked oysters and a can of sardines in hot sauce, with crackers. No accounting for taste, I guess.
In the on-deck circle is a basket full of dry laundry that needs to be folded. Envy my exciting life!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been grey and overcast all day here. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy outside and I don’t fucking like it” and promises me 8C/46F all day, mostly cloudy. Sounds about right. It’s cooled down a bit which is typical as we turned our heating down by a couple of degrees 'cos it was too warm in the house.
flyboy and Nut you can keep your 'orrible Vegemite…more Marmite for me! I am not hoarding it, but I do have two very large jars of ordinary Marmite, two jars of XO and one each of the chilli and the peanut butter versions. I am happy to declare myself a Marmite addict!
It’s so lovely to hear about so many of my friends (real, imaginary and the rest of you!) getting jabbed for the first or second time. It really makes me feel that we are on the road back to normal life once we’ve all got a much better level of protection. Events are starting to be rescheduled, and we’re getting to a point where we can start thinking about a visit north so 'im indoors can see his mum.
It’s Friday, irk has been quiet and I have Monday off. My car’s due for a service and MoT so I’m dropping it off in the morning and then walking from the garage into town as I need to go to the bank to do an in-person thing. Then a nice leisurely walk home via the park, and a wait for the call to either tell me I can collect Keith, or a list of all the things that need fixing before he can come home. And my car insurance is due the following day too.
Off for a stiff cuppa before I ring my boss to talk about summer exams. What a joy for a Friday. Exercise beckons later, then films and cocktails for us!
Update from a couple of weeks ago: The cat that was attacked by the coyote is alive and well. Saw her eating breakfast this morning. Skittish as hell, but that is to be expected. The trauma of seeing me naked and yelling must give her nightmares! No wounds and she looks well-groomed, so the day goes into the “Win” column just on the strength of that.
Introduced my Alternate Thursday Night Drinking Society group to the argument going on over in CS about the best example of a “hard rock” band. The general consensus was that AC/DC were the best fit, and that the aliens should wipe us out if that’s the best we can offer.
Since it will officially be Spring tomorrow, I shall hie myself to the nursery and see what they have in the way of hardier seedlings. Happy Friday, people!
The Big Thing is done. No turning back now. I wish I could drop the mic and walk away from work for the rest of the day, but Big Thing 2 is on tap for 3 this afternoon. I love the thought of an Alternate Thursday Night Drinking Society. That sounds amazing, and I concur with the AC/DC consensus. Glad to hear the kitty’s alive and well for the most part.
We’re getting takeout BBQ for lunch. Since I’m not one for a lot of meat, I’m getting spicy cheese curds instead. And chips & queso because just a little deep fried cheese isn’t enough cheese. I know darn well I’ll regret it later, but it’ll still taste fabulous. If only I could hang out with my curds and queso and have a glass of wine with it - I’m fancy like that. But, alas, I need to be coherent later and the cheese alone will probably give me a hangover in the morning.
I’ve heard that Australians like to prank Americans, telling them to spread Vegemite thickly (while everything I’ve read indicates that they themselves spread it thinly). I’d like to go to Australia and have them try that with me. I like a thick layer of Vegemite! Prank’s on you, Mate!
PWAISDN is still a bit loopy post-shot, like his brain is a helium balloon on a string that’s following him, but he’s able to see clients, so that’s a good thing.
Say a prayer, light a candle, whatever for me on Monday morning as I go back to work. It will be a very moaning Moanday. After five weeks unplanned away, my inbox will be a Superfund cleanup site. But before I can even get to email, I’ll be in antivirus scan and system/software update jail. If I’m able to be anywhere close to ready to do anything by lunchtime, I’ll be surprised.
One shot down, one to go. The place was well-organized and my 12:40pm appointment turned into a 12:30pm one, so I was out about 12:50. No reaction as of yet and rewarded myself with a Big Mac meal.
Sunny, silenus is known as quietly, although they told us (IIRC) the name has nothing to with quiet, but they were rather taken by it anyway and answer to it. And quietly, hooray for the cat’s survival and your ATDS group.
Gotti, I wouldn’t be telling PWAISDN clients’ that information…and congrats to going back to work, however irk-some it may be.
talky, there is no end to Big Things, unless you are the boss, where you can delegate Big Things to your minions…
Still waiting to see if the soccer fields are open. It’s dry but cloudy and only 48F, so I wouldn’t mind much if they cancel it.
Took down the defunct bathroom vanity fixture and installed the new one. No messing around with those LED emitter-type things. Yeah, they last a long time, but the LED driver (ballast) doesn’t, so what’s the point?. The new light is a straight-ahead, no-nonsense incandescent type. I put in LED bulbs, of course. It will outlast me.
Zero lingering effects from Pfizer-2. Feeling pretty peppy, even.
As usual, I’ve read everything above, retained little, and am too lazy to go back and quote in order to respond to anything specific. So, best wishes, hugs, noogies, slaps upside the head, etc. to all who need them – your choice, mix or match, share nice with the other MMPers.
My big news is that I got my first COVID vaccine yesterday! I had signed up on numerous sites to be informed of when I was eligible, appointments were available, etc. but last Tuesday night, a cousin posted on FB that a nearby hospital system had opened up appointments. I checked the criteria and saw something that made me eligible now, and there were appointments, so I grabbed one for yesterday. Of course, after I made that appointment, I got an email from one of the other sites saying that appointments were available so I checked a bunch of closer locations but couldn’t find any openings, so I stuck with the one I made. I had to drive about 40 minutes each way, into another county, but I got it done. They had a very efficient system in place and I was in & out in less than 40 minutes, including the 15 minutes I had to sit there afterwards. I have to go back in 3 weeks for shot #2 and then I’m good to go!
I’ve been back on a major decluttering binge, after having done a lot last year and then stalling for a while. I’ve taken a lot of stuff to the thrift store and to Half Price Books (great place, if you have one near you), and put more in the trash. I got pissed at two old, bulky pieces of furniture that annoyed me (they had no value and no one wanted them) so I got out my electric screwdriver, a pair of pliers and a hammer and disassembled them (it was very therapeutic!) – the pieces will be going out in the trash over the next couple of weeks.
Happy St. Joseph’s Day! I hope you’re all wearing red /peers through computer screen/ and get to eat some Italian cuisine today. If I were back in Chicago, I wouldn’t be alone in my celebration, since it seems to be a local Italian custom. Maybe it began as a counter-celebration to the pinching Irish two days before. We Italians prefer to give pasta over pinches.
I wish I had some traditional zeppole. Yum! But the closest Italian bakery is almost 50 miles away.
I’m going to walk to the used furniture place in a bit, then will return for the babushka cart and make a grocery store run…er, walk.
Oh, I had a weird dream last night, too. In mine, you were all talking about something good happening to wordy, but when I tried to find out what it was, nobody responded. It was like I wasn’t there. I have no idea what this means, but I’m hoping something wonderful is about to happen, wordy, be it Big Things 1 or 2 or something even better. Buy a lottery ticket!
FCM, Nicholas Cage was your ex-boyfriend? Even your subconscious is smart. (Great actor, maybe a little loony tunes, I hear.)
MetalMouse and Ms. Owl, yay on the shots, AND MetalMouse, yay on the reward! Much better than a sucker.
gotti, fingers will be crossed, etc., for your return to work. I bet PWAISDN’s work will be especially creative today. Then all his clients will return demanding the same 'do’s. He’ll start a trend!
Had a very anti-cat thought in my head this morning, but I’ll spare you the details.
Your comments about vaccination cards got me concerned so I had to go see if my card was still where I thought I ad left it for safekeeping. It was. I don’t know why they couldn’t have made them small enough to go into a wallet.
Yesterday I went down to the basement and painted the wall and floor where the big bookcase was and where I’m going to put it back. It was where the original folks put up their canned goods but I don’t know what else to call it but a bookcase, though it’s prolly never had a book in it. Anyway, I’ll go down and have a look shortly to see if it needs a second coat, so’s I can paint it again if need be before we return to the valley for our second shots and another round of visits with doctors, and maybe my barber. Yes, I still get haircuts. My friend D has been cutting my hair for 30+ years. We meet at his shop on sundays, just us, to shear me. Don’t know what I’m gonna do when we move over here.
Speaking of which; Wifey has been making noises about selling our house in the valley and getting moved this year. It’ll be a financial load off our shoulders, but there’s a metric buttload of stuff to do to get that done. Mostly by me. You see, I have certain ‘hoarder’ tendencies.
I hate to get rid of things I might need sometime in the future. I think it has to do with my childhood. Doesn’t everything?
Enough. Y’all have a good friday and a great weekend.
And now the insurance wrasslin’ begins. I was “seen” by a hospitalist during my stay in the hospital. That’s what hospitalists do - tend to hospital patients. But the first two days, my insurance covered the guy at 100%. The following three days, they say he’s out of network and not covered at all. Was it my bad luck that he left the network during my stay? Or is there a coding error somewhere? Regardless, for $472 a day I would like to have at least seen the guy more than once. Impatiently awaiting a response from the insurance company now.
My mistake. In my experience, people go for interviews because they don’t have jobs.
YMMV, but in my opinion no beer is ever drinkable.
Don’t mind if I go through your pockets while I’m holding them, do you?
Some people like ketchup, others don’t. Some people like veggemite, others prefer marmite. There are differences of opinion over Newcastle Brown Ale. Some people have (or have not) been enjoying the weather. Several have been shot a time or two. That’s all the high points, I think.
All afternoon Wednesday I had the feeling I was forgetting something that needed to be done. By the time I remembered what it was – ordering corned beef and cabbage from the restaurant down the road – it was only about five minutes before they closed. So I picked up some brisket, cabbage, NOT, and carrots, and Lady SCAdian will fix it Monday.
And ketchup doesn’t go on anything i’m going to eat.
There’s a shepherd’s pie in the oven for tonight’s supper, and four pot-pie sized servings in the freezer for the inlaws. I’ve tread the mill for the hour, finished all laundry, and watched more of Victoria - she just birthed her first child. The sun is shining and the sky is clear. Cold tonight, but temps going up starting tomorrow.
I’m thinking I’ll launder the sheets in the morning and hang them out to dry. And I think I’ll clean up the greenhouse tomorrow - too many leaves and weeds in there. I need to decide what goes where once planting starts in a couple of weeks. Beyond that, no plans yet.
