It is Spring around here, and since this area has been known for its chicken ranches for eons, no matter how many subdivisions cover them up the place is still Fly Town when the weather warms, even for an instant. Tango, as the Youngest Male in the tribe has taken up the mantle of Catcher of Flies. He is as enthusiastic as only an 8 month old cat can be. How dare they invade his space and be so hard to pounce on! No lamp in the house is safe now.
The toddler has been claimed by her mother. I’ve ingested some leftovers. FCD doesn’t feel like eating. It’s quiet and chillage shall soon ensue. That kid done wore me out!!
I should go tread the mill but I really don’t feel like it. We’ll see if I can force myself.
My birthday is New Year’s Eve, a good day to party.
At the Goodyear plant where my father worked he deliberately got on one supervisor’s nerves one year. Safely, as the guy was not in authority over dad. This guy was fairly young, early thirties, and an immigrant from Ireland. Dad cut a shamrock out of orange construction paper and wore it to work. He said the dude’s eyes got narrow, and he frowned deeply, but there was nothing he could do. Freedom of speech and all that jazz.
I once made a cake for a friend(best man at my wedding) I iced it bright green, but the cake inside was tinted orange. He pretended to be upset, then ate two big pieces of cake. I’m still in contact with him and his wife. Don’t know where the groom is though.
Yay! The state actually has a plan to vaccinate the rest of us starting in April! I won’t believe it until I’ve been jabbed twice (assuming I get Pfizer or Moderna).
Must be a Polish thing. My wife likes that, too. Also on breakfast sausage, fries, grilled cheese, beans. . .I choose to find it. . .endearing, I guess.
Evening all. Bills got delivered in the mail and have been put back in the mail with checks included, so that should take care of things for this month (all my bills/assets come before the 20th of each month, so I know what I have left well before the end of the month). No soccer practices, there were a few sprinkles and the Park Folks are quite protective of their fields. Need to fix dinner here in a bit.
flytrap, I’ve actually had a bump up in income during the pandemic. I’ve made a point of using half of the stimulus money to patronize locally owned businesses and give to charitable organizations. It salves my conscience.
butters, you were nicer to your boss than I would have been. My boss always knows that extra hours need to be scheduled ahead of time if they want me there. Otherwise, they can deal.
Did you have any tornados touch down close to you metal mouse? While it stormed here, we didn’t get it as hard as you all and Mississippi.
Like bumba, I don’t do ketchup on much of anything, only instead of barbeque sauce, there’s an earmarked bottle of hoisin that I can use plain or make some BBQesque sauce with.
silenus, Tango sounds like my boy Domino from years ago with the flies.
cookie, it may just be a Polish thing. My dad (half Pole) eats ketchup on everything.
Irked and came home in temps 10F cooler than when I went in. I have a feeling that I’ll be back in winter clothes, sans the heavy coat tomorrow.
When we stepped out for our morning constitutional today, the next door neighbor’s sister was just coming out the door with his trash (she cleans for her brother), so he got sweet words and skritches right out of the gate.
It’s 50 F and brightly sunny, so I have { gasp } turned off the heat, and OPENED THE WINDOWS y’all. It’s nice to have sunshine and fresh breezes wandering around Casa De Shoe.
Lots of long days with lots of meetings, means not much inkling for computer stuff at the day’s end. So glad it’s Friday, but that just means going full steam in another direction.
Made Swampy’s cheese things. Can’t make them again, because I’ll eat them all, and hubby wasn’t a fan. Only made a half recipe and overdid the cayenne a bit. Still tasty.
Well, I might make them again, when there’s crispy rice cereal to be consumed.
Growing we would take Coors to my uncle in Ohio and bring back Vernors. I think we got the better end of the deal.
Ketchup is good for meatloaf, hotdogs, hamburgers and scrambled eggs. May be used for fries if there’s no mayo around.
And we’re below freezing again. Might have some textured rain later today and over the weekend, but nothing will stick except the frost. So much for spring starting tomorrow.
After days of leftovers, to day I’m making chicken with canned pears and rice. It’s quick, so I might have time to dash to the store to get more milk. Buying UHT milk would solve the milk consumption issue, but both of us prefer fresh.
Watched the British Bake Off special, so have a hankering for scones. That’s tomorrow’s breakfast.
Weird dreamage continues. Last night, apparently a young Nicolas Cage was my ex-boyfriend. We were having an argument as I was washing my face. I’m sure a dream analyst would have a ball with that scenario!
Today, my sweetie gets shot! The county (state?) changed the rules so now anyone over 60 can be shot. He’s taking his Dr note anyway, just in case. And once SIL gets his second Moderna dose, we should all be good to go. Finally.
Today is also laundry day, and I think I’ll change the sheets on our bed while I’m at it. And I have a bunch of frozen items to seal in the vacuum bags, which means I’ll be rearranging the freezer. But it’s supposed to be another rainy-ish day, perfect for indoor chores. I pulled 2 packs of ground beef out of the freezer last night - I’m thinking I’ll make shepherd’s pie, including some minis to go to the inlaws. We’ll see if that happens.
Bottom line - a day of domesticity ahead. No dusting, tho. I have my limits!
I am up after a night of little sleep due to the cold symptoms and the husband’s ceaseless tossing, turning, and scratching. Ugh. Actually, I gave up and got up at 3:30. I’ve showered, dressed, and fixed my hair. I will apply make-up and put on a nice blouse and suit a short while before my interview. I don’t see the point in doing that any earlier mainly because I have to keep blowing my nose, so all the make -up around my nose would be wiped away. This cold is kicking my butt and today my stomach really bothers me too, but I need to put on my big girl pants and just deal with it.
I was hoping for a somewhat light day after the interview, but somehow my calendar has filled up with meetings for a variety of things; COVID plan and office safety, awards, budgeting, leasing, and something else that I can’t remember at the moment. Damn it.
At least it’s my “short” day and my weekend can begin at 3:00; assuming I don’t have something hot come in which means working late.
I don’t have plans for the weekend, other than laundry and assorted chores. It should be nice and quiet since Zoe managed to pass her cold bug to not only me, but her uncle, her GoPa, AND her parents. Sheesh, you forget how virulent they are when they’re little.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! YAWN Up and caffeinatin’. I was a slugabed until almost eight-thirty! Actually I woke up a little after five, attended to bidness, and decided to go back to bed. Sometimes ya just gotta. 'Tis 50 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 66 and maybe partly N.O.S. for the day. No plans at all for the day. Well, except to go get some fish 'n chips from LJS for sup. Outside of that, lots of sloth on tap.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Looks like the sun is trying to break thru here. If the weather-guessers are to be believed, we’ll go below freezing tonight for the last time this year. Dare I believe them? I want to move my spider plants back outside and I need to get my veggies in the ground - after I add some dirt to the raised bed. The rain caused settlage, as I’d hoped.
We’ll leave shortly to get FCD shot, then to Lowe’s for some bagged mulch. I vacu-sealed the casseroles and the 'nanner bread I made for my inlaws and it’s all in the freezer. After we get home, I’ll build several shepherd’s pies - some for us, some for them. And I’ve got another load of laundry to get done - first load is in the dryer and I’ll deal with it when we get home.
Not much is going on around here, today. I got a case of my innards turning to mush. I took some Imodium, and waiting to see what happens. Good grief.
Next, one of our dogs, Shayna, has peed on the floor three times, since last night. So, I’m taking her to the vet in about 2 hours. Something isn’t right, and I want to make sure she’s ok. She’s acting fine, otherwise. Maybe she’s got a UTI, or something. Her urine wasn’t tinted with red, but, I know blood could still be in there. So, it’s best to get her checked out. She’s a Husky/Hound mutt, and 5 years old. Always something.
I told a friend of mine, that I’m going to make a batch of Southern Fried Cabbage, with bacon, Kielbasa, and onions. Maybe some cornbread, too. I’ll let him know when it’s ready, and he’ll come by to get some to take home with him. That’ll be dinner. My daughter wants rice. She detests cabbage. So, I’ll make her some rice, to have with some Kielbasa.
It’s finally sunny, and VERY bright outside, this morning. Supposed to get up to 50*F. Not too bad.
Morning all. First dose of Pfizer in about 4 hours, they didn’t say anything about eating before the shot so I’ll fix a little break fast and save my serious eating for after. Drizzling a little bit this morning and highs are in the 50’s, so another good day to stay at home.
Count me as another slug-a-bed, FCM; nearly 8 before I got up and rescued the paper from outside. Took another look for my vaccine records (having been overseas for both work and travel, I had accumulated quite a few), but still can’t find them. Ah well, not crucial and I’ll probably find them 3 days after my second shot…
Taters, good wishes on the interview and hope the cold doesn’t interfere.
Dicey, I like Coors now and then, at least better than Budweiser, but since my average beer consumption is around 1 beer per month, I doubt that I am much of a connoisseur… And have been in Europe enough that I have developed a liking of mayo with my fries…to the consternation of many.
Nona, hope the pup has nothing serious wrong.
So off to find sustenance. All y’all have a good Firday.
