Wear your green, pour yourself a pint of the black stuff, and vomit in the streets in honor of Ireland’s Patron Saint. Or go about your normal mundane Monday. I’m up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave, so hijack away.
First! So good to be juve— BLURF!!
How’d I do?
Outstanding!
I’ll be making a chocolate bundt cake to take to my needlework group at church this afternoon.
Morning, mumpers! It’s 5c/41f with a predicted high of 8c/47f and partly cloudy. Weather app agrees, and says “Partly fucking cloudy, and that about it.” Yes, it’s cloudy out there, no doubt about it.
I don’t celebrate St Patrick’s Day, and am not a plastic Paddy. I must confess that I don’t even like Guinness! I can just about manage a pint of Kilkenny, and I used to like a drop of Beamish but that’s as close as I get.
I’m up and sheveled, hair’s been washed and dried, the cats are fed and the litter trays are clean. I have been out to take 'im indoors to the station and since my idiot neighbour had to move about four of his cars, I came home and parked a bit further away down the street. Just as well, because the council’s arboreal team have arrived with a truck and a woodchipper, parked right opposite my house, and are busy dealing with a very elderly tree that had some damage in the last big storm that came through. Fortunately there are no birds nesting in that tree, so no need to worry about them.
From last week:
Sticky Buns I’m sorry to hear that Annie needs surgery, I hope it’s quick and successful for her.
JtC I know this isn’t the place for politics, but I would say that standing up for what you know is right is never a waste of time, no matter what anyone else thinks. I am sorry you are seeing such an ugly side to your fellow countrypeople, and I am sorry that protests need to happen. I wouldn’t wish death on anyone, but the orange shitgibbon surely deserves it.
I have a meeting at 10am, so I suppose I’d better get myself prepared for that. And by preparation, I mean make another cup of tea!
Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 66 and N.O.S. I have no plans to drink green beer or ralph in the streets. The folk in Savannah Jawja, who have one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations around for some reason, will have that covered. I will wear a green t shirt to men’s night over to the church house however. We will go early to set up as we always do. Before then we will engage in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I’m wearing this today at work.
Other than that, it’s an ordinary work day for me. Tonight, though, we’re gathering at an area watering hole for some more of an Irish kind of celebration. LOL
Nor do I. When my mom and I took our cruise 11 years ago, one of our excursions was to the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. Our admission included a free pint. Mom got mine - I tried a sip and, well, ick.
On the same cruise, one of our stops in Canada was billed as Port Tasting, which took about 15 minutes, then they drove us to a beer tasting. She loved it. I tried a sip of each of the 5 beers. Quintuple ick! The guide/host/whatever described each one before we sipped, and I didn’t notice any difference. Honestly, I don’t get beer - never have I tasted one that even remotely appealed. So everyone else can have my share.
No boat work today - we both had a bad night. I don’t know what FCD was dreaming, but he was making strange sounds and lashing out. I tried waking him and I tried holding his hand so it wouldn’t land on my face. He eventually rolled over and slept peacefully again. But my night was broken. Then this morning, he got up for an early potty break, and tho he fell back to sleep, I didn’t. And I was so glad when he said he didn’t think we’ll go today. I doubt I got 4 hours of sleep.
I’ll go and try again to get my glasses adjusted. It feels as if they return to their original form within hours of being adjusted. My poor nose has 2 red divots and the area behind each ear is painful to the touch. It’s so weird - when they’ve made the adjustments, it feels fine… for a while. I don’t understand. But I’m sorry I picked these frames.
The other plan for today is to cut up an old sheet to become boat cleaning rags. Here’s hoping I can do that without cutting myself. Stay tuned for further updates.
Till then, Happy Moanday!
PS - swampy - quit flirting with my sister! You know what I’m talking about…
Happy Monday, and a tip o’ the silly green hat to ya!
God morning all. Definitely cooler than last week, it’s 35F now and will barely get to 60F later, but warmer weather will be coming soon. The leak detection folks will be out this morning sometime and once they have done their thing I’ll contact the plumbers and we’ll see how it goes. The normal “S’s” (shopping-sammich-swim-sauna) are still on the to-do list for today, so that will keep me moderately active.
I’m not sure I have anything green in my wardrobe, and like FCM I don’t care for Guinness, so guess I’m not a very good Irishman. Plus I made the final payment (automatically) for my cruise in June and between that and any plumbing costs this is not the month to be buying/drinking anything extra.
FCM, I foresee nappage in your future and hope the glass adjustment works this time.
And need to have my morning banana (before it turns green…) and get dressed for the plumbing detective’s arrival. Have a good week all.
got my shirt, socks, and olive shamrock hat on, and drinking out of my shamrock cup.
i believe the hawks nest in the trees by the art museum. for a few years they nested at the franklin institute. there was a webcam. fascinating behaivour there. we have nesting pairs of redtails and falcons in the city. the falcons tend to hang out near bridges and on and off city hall. the hawks like trees. it is amazing.
when my parents got a window air conditioner for their room, a pigeon took to nesting there. it lasted a few years until the pigeon didn’t come back one year.
i do remember the first time i saw seagulls in the city. jtc, i’m betting that was part of the banning of ddt and the passage of the epa. i couldn’t figure why they were in my neighbourhood, we are miles from the ocean. did a bit of research in the school library, and aha, they do hang out at rivers. the delaware and the schuylkill were being cleaned up and water environments had become habitable.
the schuylkill has been cleaned up enough that there have been otters and one incredible time a bald eagle have been seen.

Peter Thorndyke: What part of Ireland did you say your mother came from?
Tennessee Steinmetz: Coney, Ireland.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day! And it’s time for the annual reading of the St. Patrick’s Day email. An Ask A Manager classic; I always find it by searching for the phrase, “Men in kilts wink at you!”.
There’s a new development in the sad story of my friend’s passing, but I don’t want to lead with that. So I’ll share some cheerful news. I’ve been invited to a bridal shower, and I’ve been assembling what I think is a really cute, useful and thoughtful gift. I got a wicker basket lined with gingham, and I’ve been filling it with all kinds of oddball kitchen gadgets. So far it contains:
A tomato corer
A strawberry huller
A spaghetti measurer
A pineapple corer
A cake tester
A honeydripper (came with a tea infuser as well)
A set of chip clips
A brush for removing corn silk
A set of measuring spoons that includes a 1/8 teaspoon and a half tablespoon
A teeny measuring cup
I’m still waiting on the items I ordered online: a brown sugar medallion, a push-up measuring cup, and a potato brush with an eye remover.
These are all things I didn’t know I needed when I was first setting up house, and that I’ve since come to depend on. The bride and groom have lived apart from their parents before, of course, but in temporary situations, with roommates, or both. These items are for serious homemaking! And of course, the basket is also a gift.
So instead of me being in the Mez, they just shut it down, and sent everything to the 300 Slide where I was. Which was fine, except the one computer didn’t have the address correction program, and the other did, but it didn’t recognize the scanner, so I had to type in the 10 diet tracking number. And this is how a top notch profitable company is running things. But I decent number of hours for a low low volume day.
And I love Guinness.
Having partied in Savannah a time or two, it’s not surprising.
I like!
Thanks! I thought it was really cute.
Good morning everyone, and pinches for anyone not wearing green. But hold the beer - I’m with FCM and just can’t stand the stuff. I’ll drink anything else though!
It will be warm and windy here today. I’ve got quite a few errands to run today so at least that will be pleasant (although I won’t bother trying to fix my hair). The grocery store is at the top of the list as provisions at home have been thoroughly picked over.
rocking_chair your post yesterday evening was just beautiful. It sounds like you get to enjoy a wonderful view.
JtC come visit me in May - there will be some amazing thunderstorms to enjoy from the porch, plenty of tornado watches, and probably more than one tornado warning. It will be very exciting
shoe I’m glad you finally had a good night!
That sounds terrible. At what point can you get them to switch out the frames for a different pair or even a different style?
Rilchiam I love AAM! Thanks for sharing, that was hilarious.
I gave my niece (and bought for myself) a gizmo like this
Very handy, I’ve found.
I can’t, unless I want to pay for another pair. When I tried them on before buying, they felt fine. But it’s as if the heat radiating from my magnificent brain is affecting the plastic of the frame!
FCD just left to do a quick chore on the boat. It could wait, but, well, that’s just the way he is. I have the ice maker going, and I may just lie down and have a nap in a bit. I’m really, really dragging.
Stout is the only beer I like. FCM, that Dublin Guinness Storehouse is where you can get your pilgrimage credential stamped if the rectory of the Church of St. James around the corner isn’t open–they have two backup stamps at the info desk.
Here’s what a pilgrim credential looks like:
So, that new development. Dylan died, and will be buried, in California. Brandon is adamant that Mr. Rilch has to be at at the funeral. In fact, if he’s not, Brandon considers that a friendship ELE. He’s said that once before (I’ll tell about that in a later post), but Mr. Rilch was not impressed by his logic, not at first, anyway.
Brandon: “Well, if you or Rilchie had died when you were in Cali, I would have left my second-in-command in charge and flown out to be with Rilchie or you!”
Mr. Rilch: “I’m sure you would. But…you have a second-in-command. This project I’m working on is me and two other guys, end of. I can’t hand it off to someone else.”
Mr. Rilch had been talking with the other two guys about trying to push some things sideways on the timeline, to make a gap for him to travel. Meanwhile, I messaged Kelly with a suggestion: Mr. Rilch could record a eulogy, for them to play at the funeral? This morning she got back to me with another shocker: she really can’t leave town. Someone close to her is in hospice, in their last days. As in, they might leave us on the same day as the funeral. In light of that, Mr. Rilch feels he has to go. (Erin is still weighing the decision to go or not go, for whatever reasons of her own.)
So, yeah. I’m going to record a eulogy, though.
ETA: Heh…Look at the 11am (eastern time) AAM letter today!
