Bloody Mary
Rye Manhattan
Gin & Tonic
Whiskey sour is #1. For variation, especially later in the evening, Amaretto sours.
Vodka and cranberry is #2, along with most of the vodka/cranberry based drinks, such as Seabreezes and Cosmopolitans.
Highballs are #3, preferably with ginger ale, though a 7 & 7 is nice and a vodka collins is not unheard of.
Not far behind on the list are white russians. Black russians are ok, too, even though one of those once put me face-first into snow on the steps near Government Square in Boston.
Rye Manhattan
Rob Roy
Negroni
Captain and coke
Gin and tonic
Rye and ginger
Manhattan - 5 parts Rye, 2 parts sweet vermouth, a tart cherry if you can find it.
Old Fashioned - Bourbon, sugar, bitters, orange peel twist. I muddle an orange peel with the sugar because I like the orange flavour and only a very fresh orange will get oils into the drink.
Sidecar - 3 parts good cognac (don’t go cheap), 1 part Cointreau, 1 part lemon juice. You will see other recipes (e.g. 1-1-1) that produce a terribly unbalanced drink.

[li]Dirty Martini - Hendricks or Bombay Sapphire[/li][li]Moscow Mule[/li][li]Gin and Tonic[/li][/ol]
I have got to try this.
I no longer drink, but when I did it was:
1.) Pina collada
2.) Rattlesnake
3.) Banana daiquiri with 151 Bacardi
In order:

Dry gin martini, olive

Gin and tonic
All of the “umbrella” drinks with rum and fruit juice (beach vacation drinks e.g. Mai Tai, Daiquiri, Painkiller)
Aviation (gin, lemon juice, maraschino liqueur, creme de violette)
Moscow Mule
Malibu Bay Breeze (but ONLY with 90+ proof coconut rum)
Long islands
I’m not proud of my list, but I like strong drinks that taste good.
The top two are always the same:
-
Rye Old Fashioned, muddled not up (you can roll your eyes now, but they’re both valid drinks). Lots of bitters, not too sweet.
-
Margarita, with fresh lime, tequila, Cointreau. Sugar only if the limes are especially tart.
#3 varies, depending on what I’m in the mood for, the season, etc. Lately it’s a gimlet made on the dry side.
Vodka, cranberry, splash of 7
Gin & Tonic
Brandy Old Fashioned for a shout out to my peeps in Milwaukee.
Cuba Libre
Corn and Oil
Rum Old Fashioned
Tanqueray & Tonic
Long Island Ice Tea
Vodka & Squirt
Martini (vast majority of the time)
Vodka Martini (once in a great while)
Bloody Mary (for when I absolutely, positively have to start drinking before noon)
What’s “7” in this context?
