No, unless you wait until the ice melts to drink it, or chew those cubes up as you drink.
I’m not one much for hard liquor. In my early drinking days, I had weak 7&7’s at the club, or screwdrivers. I couldn’t think of anything else, and besides everyone drank beer and wine coolers.
I can’t drink hard liquor, it doesn’t agree with me at all, but of course that doesn’t stop me! So, my top three: Gin and tonic. Scotch and soda (only on airplanes!). Pina Coladas. Runner up: White Russians. (I once drank several Jack and cokes one hot summer, the only time I think I blacked out - had a three day hangover from that one.)
I don’t know if a martini counts as a mixed drink, but for this exercise let’s assume it does. In which case:
- Tito’s martini, very dry, up with a twist
My only other go-to drinks are scotch rocks (or with a small splash of water, or neat) and wine. Occasionally in the summer, if I’m somewhere i think they’ll do it well, I’ll have a margarita.
We should meet for drinks! Occasionally I will have a brandy Manhattan, but otherwise this would be my list ![]()
I just made this and let me say it’s tasty. I reduced the booze by half though, as I only had 2oz to start with. And instead of whipped cream on top I poured just a little into the hot drink itself. That maple syrup really does something for the drink that ordinary sugar doesn’t.
Do non-hard-liquor mixed drinks count? If so, I recommend a semi-accidental invention that I call a Gramarye Island Iced Tea: one part cooled strong Earl Grey tea with a spoonful of honey, and one part honey wine/mead.
Tequila and Regret
I forget the other two.
Dark 'n Stormy (dark rum & ginger beer over ice cubes)
Classic Frozen Margarita (tequila, lemon juice, triple sec, with ice into blender to be crushed)
Bloody Mary (I like 'em with spicy hot V8 + horseradish; vodka of course, over ice)
Gin and Tonic
Martini
Catemba (kalimotxo)
Bloody Mary (along with Mary’s variations)
Margarita (for real)
Captain and Coke with lime.
I believe you’ve mentioned kalimotxo before, which led to me making one (ok, several). I don’t think I ever thanked you, so I’ll toast you when I have my next one.
- Extra Spicy Caesar
- Crown and Ginger
- Gin and Juice /7-Up.
With a list like that you can leave your “Location” field blank! ![]()
Margarita (not frozen, salt on the rim)
Gin & Tonic
Bloody Mary
*Old Fashioned Sweet (Rye, bourbon, rail whiskey, or Southern comfort. As long as it’s muddled and not made with goddamned mix!)
*Whiskey (any of the above mentioned) and sweet.
*Beer/wine Hybrid (beer & wine mixed, sometimes called a beer cocktail, though that is technically something else). Some of these the wine and beer are made together and some 2 finished products are just mixed. I hear ya groaning! This is definitely an acquired taste. I like it.
I’d say when it comes to a mixer I drink the first 2 equally as much, about 40%-40%. I’ll have a beer/wine hybrid only about 20% of the time.
Bourbon old fashioned
Rye Manhattan
Sazerac
Vodka and Cranberry
Moscow Mule
Vodka and Mixer
I don’t drink hard liquor much any more because I’m old. When I’m drinking it’s either beer or wine spritzers but with ginger ale instead of seltzer.
Gibson
Mojito
I honestly can’t think of a third mixed drink I order with any regularity. I normally just order a beer or Canadian Club, up.
BG Reynolds makes a nice falernum syrup, available on Amazon.
I would like to exchange my ‘vodka with mixer’ to a Mojito. I only said that because I couldn’t think of anything else I’d order but I would for sure order a Mojito long before I’d order a vodka and tonic.
P.S., I’d never order tonic and anything.
