It seems to me that most people have some topic that, once you get them started talking about it, it takes a great effort to get them to shut up again. For me it’s weight lifting. For my brother it’s baseball. For my officemate it’s the Federal Reserve Bank. For my boyfriend it’s vegetarianism. So I’m wondering … what topic can you enthusiastically talk about long after everyone around you has grown tired of talking about it?

Apparently, Sherlock Holmes, at the moment. I’ve been reading through all of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, and it has had the effect that I accidentally turned a completely unrelated conversation into an hour-long discussion about different re-imaginings of the Holmes stories.
