Such an effort would be fruitless, I’m more than aware. However, if the OP is any guide and they usually are, this thread is for people who don’t find him or his show funny. You’re more than welcome to start a thread entitled Tosh.0 is hilarious and rest assured, you shall not find me in it.
I just realized… if you post a comment to a “Kitties are the cutest” and say “I think Kitties suck” you get labeled as “thread shitting.” I guess if you post to a thread that says “I think Kitties suck” and you respond… “no they don’t… they are cute” it is reverse thread shitting.
Did anyone else notice that the concept for the show is a modern reworking of America’s Funniest Home Videos, but with The Soup-style cynicism? I say it shows, as it’s less funny than The Soup, but funnier than AMV.
There are two segments I actually find interesting–the one about fetishes, because it’s just so weird (and you can’t look up a list of fetishes online), and the rehabilitation. The rest is only funny based on the hilarity of the clip itself.
That said, it’s one show I never really bothered to try to find online when I stopped using my TV. I thus haven’t seen the show in a long time.
I don’t say anyone has to laugh, but they should at least get the joke. Tosh adopts a hyper-snark affect that’s supposed to be over the top. He’s basically a personification/parody of youtube commenters.
I agree. Anyone who thinks he isn’t laughing at himself the whole time is missing the point. He’s all but winking at us; it’s just silly fun. It’s clearly not for everyone. . .but it’s doing quite well.
Love Tosh. Love the show. Love that he does things that other clip shows don’t do, like having Tosh attempt to recreate the feat that went awry on the videk (like eating cinnemon) and how they feature viral video “stars” in the “Web Redemption” segment. I can see why it’s not for everybody… Jeff Dunham sells out arenas for a reason.
Well, I’m no fan of Jeff Dunham (or Dane Cook or the Redneck Comedy guys or whatever they call themselves), and I find Tosh extremely unfunny. In fact, I think you and I have similar taste in comedy (and what was your name before you changed it to Bob Ducca? He hasn’t been doing that character for that long), so I don’t think you can honestly say people who don’t like Tosh have unsophisticated tastes. That bit Dio posted upthread was about as hacky as anything by the bad comics mentioned in this post.
The thing w/ Tosh is that yes, sometimes his material is hacky, but it’s all in his delivery. Most of the time it’s w/ a smirk and intonation that let’s you know that he knows how hacky and dumb it is. I’m not comparing them really, but it’s kind of how Will Ferrell always plays a guy w/ that unearned self-confidence (like Ron Burgandy) – Tosh puts up an arrogant egotistical front as if everything he says is gold, which makes it funny when he’s delivering hack material.
I never heard of him before this thread. But if the link above is any example, I must not be young enought or smug enough to “get” him. He takes salvia, then some cinnamon, then eats saltines, and then he gags for a while. He is going to karate chop some coconuts, but never gets that far.
Is this characteristic of his approach to humor? I found his “Is this Racist?” bit on YouTube, but it seemed rather the same - I did not get the point.
I like it, but would prefer it if it didn’t have any skits.
I use to love The Soup, but since Joel McHale got his Community gig, it’s been going downhill fast.
My favorite Tosh stand-up bit is when he’s talking about how rich he wants to be. I love this part (most of the comedy is in his timing and where he pauses before each phrase. Clip is here (the bit above is about 45 seconds in).
“They say money doesn’t buy happiness…It buys a Waverunner… You ever see a sad person on a Waverunner? Have you? Seriously…Have you? Try to frown on a Waverunner.” followed by him pantomiming someone on a jet ski trying to be sad for a split second before breaking out w/ a big dumb grin on their face.
