I heard about this and bought a jar out of curiosity. Wow, is it delicious (albeit very sweet)! So, just curious for others that may have had this, besides eating the entire jar with a spoon any suggestions on how to use it?
Yes, the cookie butter line divides neatly along the “no such thing as too sweet” and “I don’t really like sweets” divide. I haven’t tried Trader Joe’s (every time I go they’re out of stock), but I have eaten several jars of the original Biscoff spread. My preferred approach is to start by spreading it on a lightly toasted bagel, and then eat the rest of the jar with a spoon. The Biscoff jar suggests making a cookie butter and jelly sandwich, or eating it on apples.
This is timely for me. I was introduced to the wonder that is cookie butter about a month ago, and I’ve been feigning for it ever since. But alas, my visit to Trader Joe’s this weekend resulted in no cookie butter for me. It was all sold out.
Crack butter is what they should call it.
So it’s sugared butter? You add your own cinnamon? That’d be good because nobody adds enough of it.
It can greatly enhance your sex life.
As near as I can tell, it’s pureed Teddy Grahams.
The Biscoff stuff is pureed Biscoff cookies. The one time I bought it, I wound up eating it out of the jar with a spoon. A bad thing to have around.
Cookie butter is a spread made from Speculoos, a type of Belgian cookie best known in the U.S. as windmill cookies. If you are interest in purchasing sugared butter, I recommend Land O’ Lakes cinnamon sugar butter, which is also excellent on a lightly toasted bagel, although not as tasty when eaten out of the container with a spoon. I suppose you could add your own cinnamon if there wasn’t enough for your taste. Did I mention “no such thing as too sweet”?
Cinnamon Sugar Butter recipe page, for those of us who think that everything from grilled cheese to pork tacos could be improved by adding cinnamon sugar butter.
I bought some of the original Biscoff spread and shared it with the kids in the house by spreading it on whole wheat Ritz crackers, very yummy with the sweet/salty thing going on.
But do they mix the powdered cookies with butter to make it spreadable? Because I invented that years ago but found it too decadent, even for me.
Sheesh, I have been making ginger/cinnamon honey butter for decades [and also adding garlic and herbs to cream cheese as faux Boursin] why in hell should I buy it for many times what it costs me to make?!
I think it’s nasty, but my friends love it. They’ve taken to making every kind of baked good with a Cookie Butter coating, layer, center, etc.
There is no butter in cookie butter. It’s basically pureed cookies mixed into frosting. Like everyone else, apparently, I start by spreading it, and end up eating most of the jar with a spoon. Stuff should be illegal, I tell ya!
Pretzels.
I’ve actually had the luxury of being able to compare the Biscoff’s & TJ’s side-by-side and I have to give the nod to TJ’s; IIRC, it’s slightly sweeter and has a deeper flavor.
You’re doing it wrong. One tablespoon, a jar of cookie butter and a (larger) jar of peanut butter. Scoop about 1/3 of the spoon with cookie butter, and fill the rest with peanut butter. Lick, repeat. Yum!
I prefer the TJ’s, too. In my small sample (one jar of each) the Biscoff was much thinner. The TJ’s holds up better to peanut butter. (see suggestion above)
Nothing is too decadent for me. The way I’ve always made it was: flour, salty butter, sugar, a splash of vanilla and a couple shakes of cinnamon. It can be made with powdered sugar or granulated. And for something extra, add some small chocolate chips.
Dip pretzels in it.
Put it in a bowl, microwave it a few seconds to melt it, and then add a scoop of ice cream to make it a tasty ice cream topping.
I love Biscoff cookies and was a little excited when a friend gave me their jar. Then I read the ingredient list. This stuff makes the cookies look like health food. Seriously… is anyone out there not getting enough flour, sugar or hydrogenated oils in their diet?
Anyway, I did use a little of what I got. I took original Biscoff cookies and put the spread between them to make a sort of Oreo. It’s also excellent on apple slices and the inclusion of fruit facilitates a little denial about how awful this stuff is for you.
Spread on graham crackers, and try to pretend you’re not eating cookies topped with cookies.
Dip apple slices in it. At least it’s a nod to health!
ETA, I don’t think TJ’s has hydrogenated oil - it’s all naturally terrible for you Palm oil.
Who would think cookie butter is in any way healthy? It’s called cookie butter for god’s sake.
